Since 2019, the Manchester based label, Moments in Time, has had many strong releases, showcasing their commitment to signing upcoming local talent, as well as those more established names. Our third release for the year is from talented Irish techno artist and Amsterdam based, DECADANCE, and it includes a remix from none other than Parralx!

The lead track, “Saoirse”, explores the duality of tribalism and conflict through three fast paced, percussively intense techno tracks. The track conceptually seeks to symbolise violence, emotion and peace. Beginning relatively peacefully yet characterised by a tense atmosphere, the intensity capitulates through violent drums before morbid synths set the emotional and melancholic tone.

“Ehyah” juxtaposes primitive, tribal percussion with the familiar sound of a viral, modern day trap vocal. The specific sound sampled, was taken from a track which DECADANCE discovered through Soundcloud’s algorithm, which automatically plays viral music every time an artist’s privated track finishes. Tribal rhythms have evolved from our inception and the emergence of AI and “the algorithm” has intercepted how we engage with what was once a pure and primitive experience of sound. Ehyah, represents this conflict. Whilst Parallx follows up with a stripped back remix masterpiece.

“Death of Connla”, confines within the EP’s concept of tribalism and conflict, yet remains simple in its execution. Made immediately after DECADANCE, briefly returning to his home in rural Ireland, the lead is taken from sampling the Celtic Carnyx. The track essentially imagines the tale of Cú Chulainn murdering his own son Connla in battle and seeks to befit the soundtrack to one of Ireland’s many mythological stories.

Luigi Madonna back to his label Contempo to launch "Sons of Napoli" VA, a tribute that assembles Napoli's techno luminaries in a celebration of sound, honoring the city with an unforgettable auditory homage through the collective genius of Naples' most esteemed artists.

Launched in 2022, Contempo melds techno's future with Italy’s rich musical legacy, introducing a new sound inspired & perfectly aligned with the Neapolitan sound. The sound of this city is shaped by techno pioneers such as Gaetano Parisio, Markantonio, and icons like Marco Carola, Danilo Vigorito, and Rino Cerrone who have fostered a scene ripe with innovation.

Luigi Madonna, a towering figure in techno, seamlessly blends Napoli's rich musical heritage with innovative sounds. Gaetano Parisio, a techno veteran since the 90s, reflects the Neapolitan Techno School's ethos with his timeless tracks. Markantonio, from Naples, is known for his innovative and soulful techno contributions. Manuel Di Martino showcases Napoli's techno essence through his acclaimed releases and his work on his imprint while, Raffaele Attanasio blends his classical heritage with techno, crafting emotive tracks that resonate worldwide. 

Opening the release is Orbita by Gaetano Parisio, weaving together pulsating rhythms with hypnotic synth lines. Its cosmic ambiance and driving beats create an immersive experience. Second on the list is One Coffee by Luigi Madonna that crafts an electrifying atmosphere with its robust basslines and sharp, energizing synths. Raffaele Attanasio's Arenhell combines punchy beats with deep dark, ominous synths, dynamic percussion and robust bassline. "Funk It" by Markantonio is a fusion of tight rhythms and groovy basslines, accented with cleverly placed synth stabs and funky touch. Contrary to its title, "Take a Break" by Manuel Di Martino delivers relentless energy with its driving beats, octane percussion rhythms and compelling synth sounds. 

"Sons of Napoli" transcends a mere collection; it's a story of a city alive with dance until dawn. Every track, a chapter of Napoli's techno tale, invites listeners into its vibrant legacy through Contempo.

Berlin based SLV makes a welcome return to Soma with his latest release, Gestern und Heute EP. Having gradually built himself to be one of the most exciting prospect on the Soma roster, SLV continues to impressive with his dark yet emotive sound. This release also feature a spectacular remix form rising UK Techno act Cleric. 

The melancholic Artefact opens the EP with its wonderfully crafted syncopated beats and cold, haunting synth work. Kreuzwege has SLV back on four to the floor territory and working a real dance floor burning as tweeked out leads are bolstered by typical powerful drum work from SLV. Jets keeps things moving at a fast pace yet brings a more emotive side. Intense percussive workouts drive the tracks with fleeting pads taking the tone of the tracks to other heights. Cleric takes on Artefact are delivers a suitably punchy and furious rework yet still retains the melancholy of the original.

Another unique release has SLV standing out from this crowd with his distinctive sound.
