🎧 Mono & Kusten present „Zephyr“ Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 265 🎧

Unsere Nr. 265 kommt heute abermalig aus dem hohen Norden Deutschlands. Meeresluft tut bekanntlich gut. Und deren Musik umso mehr. Die Rede ist von den beiden Künstlern @ex-mono und @paykusten, welche nicht nur als DJ’s und Produzenten sehr aktiv sind, sondern auch Teil des bekannten Festivals „Meeresrausch“ (https://meeresrausch-festival.de/) und des angelehnten Labels „Meeronauten“ (https://soundcloud.com/meeronautenmusik) ihrem künstlerischen Schaffensdrang Ausdruck verleihen. 

Ihr aufgenommener Mix „Zephyr“ ist einer dieser Mixe, welche einen von Anfang in den Bann ziehen. Organische Soundstrukturen und zum Träumen einladende Melodiepassagen gehen hierbei stets Hand in Hand. Mal etwas deeper, dann wieder cineastisch herzergreifend reihen sie konsistent und harmonisch einen Klasse Track nach dem Anderen an und schaffen schlussendlich ein großartiges Mixtape der Marke zeitlos. Ein Set welches in Erinnerung bleibt und dem Prädikat Storytelling mehr als gerecht wird.

Wie gewohnt haben wir den Beiden ein paar Fragen zukommen lassen, in denen sie ein wenig mehr über sich, ihrer Lieblingsafterhour und dem Mix erzählen.

✔️ Was sind eure musikalischen Einflüsse? 

Wir sehen uns als musikalische Kosmopoliten. Unsere Einflüsse und Hintergründe sind gleichzeitig recht ähnlich und könnten doch nicht unterschiedlicher sein. Ex-Mono ist ein Kind der 80er und wurde durch den Basic Channel Sound in den 90ern sozialisiert. Als Vinyl DJ prägten ihn weiterhin Electro, Nu Jazz und Liquid Drum and Bass, bis dann erste Sets bei den Pyonen erfolgten. Pay Kusten stieß Mitte/ Ende der 2000er auf seine ersten musikalischen Helden der elektronischen Szene und wurde durch den minimalistischen und deepen Open Air Sound in Mecklenburg, bei dem speziell die komplette 3000 Grad Bande zu nennen ist, geprägt. Diese verschiedenen Einflüsse verbinden sich im Sound von uns beiden und überraschen uns selbst in vielen Sets aufs Neue. 

✔️ Was macht eurer Meinung nach her eine gute Afterhour aus?

Da wir beide selten die letzten einer Party sind, können wir das für die klassische Afterhour gar nicht sagen. Wir fassen das Thema mal ein wenig weiter und beziehen die Frage auf einen Festivalsonntag. Hierbei lichtet sich nach den Hauptfestivaltagen das Publikum schon etwas und die meisten Gäste sind bereits zufrieden mit dem Erlebten. Und dann ist es am schönsten, wenn bei Sonnenschein und einem feinen Getränk auf einem gemütlichen Floor nochmal eine musikalische Überraschung wartet und man beseelt und beeindruckt von den Erfahrungen bei guter Musik mit entspannten Leuten das Festivalwochenende ausklingen lassen kann.

✔️ Welche Gedanken mögt ihr uns zu eurem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Unser Set für Afterhour Sounds ist eine Hommage an den Festivalsonntag. Weniger Druck, eine Prise Entspannung, ein Schluck Mojito, ganz ganz viele Sonnenstrahlen und ein laues Lüftchen.

Wooooow, for me this is one of my favourite sets I've played this year so far. Thanks to all the dancers and supporters who made this 2 1/2 hour ride very special to me! 
As a dj I constantly experience phases where I doubt myself or the music I'm playing. Asking myself if what I do is enough. I've learned that a lot of people are experiencing those moments of doubt and anger and I've learned to appreciate those feelings because they are my metamorphosis in this beautiful process of beeing a musician.
Coming to Halle and seeing a lot of my friends and people who supported me on my way always makes me feel grateful and happy.
So I hope you enjoy this set as much as I did while playing it!

💭 Dieser Sommer ist einer von der sturen Sorte. Irgendwie ist er präsent, doch so ganz will er sich nicht zeigen. Seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit geben sich Regen und Sonne abwechselnd die Klinke in die Hand. Mal zeigt sich ein strahlend blauer Himmel, dann türmen sich wieder dunkle Wolkenberge. Für die meisten ist dieses Wetterspiel unangenehm. Die Planbarkeit für Outdoor-Aktivitäten ist eingeschränkt und das führt insbesondere im Hochsommer zu Herausforderungen. Auf der anderen Seite sind Wettervorhersagen allzu oft ungenau, von Plattform zu Plattform unterschiedlich und verursachen, tendenziell miese Stimmung. Solche Prognosen sind mit Vorsicht zu genießen, das reale Wetter leider auch. Wir wünschen uns mehr Sonne für diesen Sommer. Dankeschön ❤️

🎵 Der heutige Podcast ist ein musikalisches Machwerk von Leorion. Bei ihm handelt es sich um einen Musikaktivisten durch und durch. Er beschreibt sich selbst als verknallt, verspielt & verspult und genau das spiegelt sich auch in seinem Set wider. Usually, I'm all about Psytrance, especially #HI-TECH <3 Recently, I've been exploring new musical horizons and frequencies. I had the fantastic experience of playing my first Techno set on the beach in Mozambique, South Africa, and it truly brought about some soulful changes.

The vibes were so infectious that I've been delving deeper into this style, especially during my 7-hour Twitch sessions every weekend. I've been experimenting with speeding up Peak Time Techno by speeding up each track by 10BPM+. 
I have been taking inspiration from the incredible DJane  #Indira #Paganotto.
Her recent #TOMORROWLAND Inspired me a lot where she seamlessly blended various electronic music styles  like Techno, Psytrance, Progressive, and Peak Time, created an unforgettable journey showing so much enjoyment and happiness! And that's what this music is all about! <3

🧠⚡💃🕺 When I'm in the mix, it's like a massive burst of excitement for my heart and brain! Changing frequencies during sets is a joy, but you can't ride this style for too long. The structure is different, no Real intros, but each track is full power lasting around 4 minutes. So, you've got to have double the tracks ready compared to Psytrance. And after a long mix, nothing beats shifting frequencies – every direction leads to #Psytrance! 💃🕺 🧠⚡

El alter ego, «el otro yo», es aquella otra faceta que se cree distinta de la personalidad normal u original de una persona. Puede ser una forma de expresar características o comportamientos que normalmente no se muestran en la vida cotidiana, una manera de jugar a ser alguien o algo diferente a lo que se es.

A lo largo de estas semanas estaré subiendo minisets en los que recorreré aquellos “alter egos” que forman parte de mi universo musical. 

En Alterego #2 me propuse mezclar tracks de progressive trance/ psy, que tienen en común vocales suaves, algo melancólicas y románticas, en el que las bases van incrementándose y se ponen cada vez más potentes.
Espero que disfruten de bailar y sentir cositas 🌹

The alter ego, "the other self", is that other facet that is believed to be different from a person's normal or original personality. It can be a way of expressing characteristics or behaviors that are not normally shown in everyday life, a way of playing to be someone or something different from what you are.

Throughout these weeks I will be uploading minisets in which I will go through those "alter egos" that are part of my musical universe.

In Alterego #2 I set out to mix progressive trance/psy tracks, which have in common soft, somewhat melancholic and romantic vocals, in which the bases are increasing and become more and more powerful.

Dancing has taken many forms throughout the years, different styles and choreographies started to emerge to enable people’s inner passion to come out. Some people took dancing to a professional expertise, while others decided to let loose of the week’s experiences in a process of bringing out bad energies and inviting sensational exhilaration. It does not matter if you decide to dance with a group, a partner of even in a Dance of Shadows, just as long as you set free of all your inhibitions and summon an ecstatic catharsis. 
Only special occasions such as these call for a Dance of Shadows, it is an old ancient technique gone for generations in tribal societies, and it takes special auditory stimulations in order for it to rise from the ground. It arouses Invisible Hypnose, which assimilates in your body slowly and gradually until you have no control over your motoric control. This will eventually confront you with a Magic Mirror, a reflection of your deepest most secret desires to break free from culture’s constraints.

Somatic Cell are Alex Kogan & Alex Esterlis, a Psychedelic Full-On Trance duo from Israel.
Growing up listening to 90’s revolutionary electronic producers like The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, later discovering the late 90’s & early 2000s music of Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, Astrix, GMS, Eskimo and 1200 Micrograms, leading them to explore the realms of Psychedelic Trance production as teenagers.

With influences spreading from Classic Rock and Blues to Oriental Music and Industrial Techno, Somatic Cell sound is characterized by a unique blend of energy and delicacy, cutting edge  sound with an old school flavor, powerful drops alongside emotional melodies, driving the dancefloor to madness while touching the deepest parts of the soul.

Their debut EP 'Break The Silence' was released in 2016 on Geomagnetic Records,
followed by their 2nd EP 'Twilight Stories' on BMSS Records, including the hit "Mad Cow in A Cell". Their 3rd EP on BMSS Records, "Radical Particle”, continued the rise of the due, followed by performances at the biggest events in Israel.


After collaborating with artists like Psilocybian, U-Recken, Darwish and Indigo Spirit, they released their debut album ‘His Wish’ in 2019, leading them to perform at many festivals around the world.
