Lespecial - Spirit Antenna (Second Antler) (Erothyme Remix)

Kodomo’s full-length debut release – titled Still Life – will be released on October 7th, 2008 on New York’s 5 Points Records.  This release features 9 original tracks and a bonus track, “Spira Mirablis” - currently featured in the MTV/Harmonix iPod video game “Phase.” The concept for the record was born of a series of photographs, each one serving as a springboard for the music.  The album explores how images of environments, landscapes, people, and objects are used to evoke musical ideas; each image giving rise to various rhythms, chords, and sonic textures.  The photos were taken in Italy, China, Japan, Switzerland, & around the US.  The CD release has a deluxe package that includes an expanded booklet featuring all 9 photos.

As a thank you for a wonderful Gaggalacka festival at the end of last summer, here comes the next musical journey for you: A Purple Playground. It consists of eleven tracks bringing you the feeling of the festival sound from noon until night plus three marvelous downbeat tracks as a soft and emotional closing. I wrote this track with my dear friend Sean aka Mutt, who I met in first year University back in Toronto. He produces funky beat diggery type stuff and is a very funny character. He didn't produce music before I met him, but then hustled hard and was signed to Goldie's Metalheadz label within a couple years. I was very impressed and we decided to do a tune together. 

Sean came over with some cool samples he had lifted out of the graffiti documentary 'Style Wars' and we went from there. The tune came out really funky. I programmed all of these guitars and this jazzy arpeggiated Rhodes part but we needed a solo. Stephane Vera (who you may remember from Throwback Thursdays last week) is always down to throw down a jazzy keyboard solo so we just asked him to come over and do it real quick as he was in the neighborhood. 

Colours ended up being Track 1 on Autopirate at Dov's (Muti Music) request. I had initially thought it too mellow to dedicate so much attention to, but it turned out Dov was right. It ended up being a hit with girls and more mature fans and helped to show that ill.GATES wasn't just about Glitchy Hiphop and IDM (which was a common misconception at the time).

Naked on Acid is my vision of painting with sound. It's sounds, thoughts and textures drawn across the auditory spectrum with brushlike strokes, flowing into eachother and creating a synesthetic field to journey into. My recommendation: Sit down in-between your speakers, the stereo field, or in headphones, close your eyes and really listen.
