This proverbial quote from Chuck Robert’s cathartic record rings true for our next guest on the mix series - Jack Foran. 

Jack’s passion for 4/4 is clear for all to see: approaching each set with a sense of focus, whilst savouring the moment with the dancers before him. Foran’s journey began playing the opening slot at Laruche, to gracing the booth at @s-a-s-h-sundays, residencies at several clubs and venues across the region, and now gearing up for a feature at Sundancer Thailand as part of our takeover. 

This mix features a fine sample of smooth grooves from house and minimal, dipping into plenty of obscure electro and breaks. It’s refreshing to see a DJ remain true to their sound and not warp to the trends of the time - Jack’s shedding a light on some of the best minimal grooves in circulation today, and we hope it stays that way.

Born in Wakefield, England, Earl grew up immersed in dance music. His father, a Soul DJ, surrounded him with the sounds of Motown and Soul from a young age. Even now, Earl attributes his deep love and passion for dance music to this early exposure.

Earl's first foray into the world of music and DJing began in 1990 when he found a love for Italian House and the Rave scene that was going strong in the UK at that time, and at the tender age of 17 started DJing in his home city of Wakefield. Living in the North of England, Earl had a great choice of clubbing options, but only when he started going to the legendary Back to Basics in Leeds did he find his true calling, deep house and tech house.

Earl said, "I remember going to the top floor and hearing these awesome deep sounds and melodies, and thought how more emotive the music was compared to what I was currently playing; from that night on, I was hooked."
The DJ playing then was Deep House aficionado and longtime Back to Basic resident Ralph Lawson (20:20 Vision Records). Earl spent what he calls "his formative years" at Back to Basics learning from Ralph and other notable guest DJs such as Jamie Anderson, Derrick Carter, Peace Division and Kevin Yost, and often cites the 90s as the "best time for house music".

He soon took up several residences in the North of England, most notably the Hedonism events at the Think Tank & Café Mex. Earl has always stated he was never interested in being famous and just wanted to play his music, which is an admirable ethos, especially in today's world of Instagram DJs!

Earl's style evolved as the Tech House beats emerged from the West Coast of America on labels like Tango, Siesta and Doubledown; his sets became more drum orientated as he would often start deep and build to a Tech House or Techno finale. This style has stayed with him and can be heard in his recently released Rebirth Sessions.

In 2004, just as the CDJs became the go-to choice for DJs, Earl relocated to Thailand, leaving his beloved vinyl in the UK, and for the time, he hung up the headphones. Although opposed to the onset of digital mixing, he was still passionate about music and began buying MP3s and building his digital collection. When he visited GLOW club in Bangkok and experienced the Funktion One sound system, his passion for DJing was reignited.

After taking advice from several industry friends, he eventually jumped back on the horse and purchased a Pioneer controller, and the rest is now history. The House Music veteran with his roots from the highly influential early 90's rave scene in Leeds, UK, has a lot to look forward to with upcoming DJ collaborations with long-term friend Jamie Anderson (Artform Records) and Greek Deep House producer Ilias Katelanos (i-records).

Earl's DJ sets are captivating journeys that traverse the realms of Deep House, Minimal and Tech House, occasionally punctuated with electrifying Techno tracks as the night progresses. With a penchant for smaller, intimate venues, Earl thrives on the energy emanating from the crowd. He skillfully harnesses this energy to craft unforgettable nights that leave a lasting impression.
