Backstroke

Something They Call Myth write music steeped in melancholy, drawing on their memories and conversations with each other for inspiration. Though the production sounds playful with the syncopated piano riff and bright sounds, 'Counting Friends' tells a story about two best friends, exploring the growing pains and insecurities that can develop as friends progress through life and make new connections. While this can be exciting, sometimes we really just want things to stay exactly as they are. The light-hearted feel of the song makes a heavy subject easier to talk about, and can also be taken as a bit of tongue-in-cheek.

With stripped-back arrangements, creaking floorboards, and the occasional laughter in the background, it feels like a late-night campfire session among close friends - intimate, imperfect, and completely real.
“Embers,” a glowing duet with Ms. Mia, opens the set with hushed harmonies and flickers of longing. “Jack,” featuring the rich vocals of Amylia, is one moment a cautionary tale of risk and peer pressure, the next a quiet triumph of resilience and redemption. The title track “Magic Place” was written and performed by all three artists. It drifts between hope and hesitation, both a plea and a promise. The closing track “House of Friends” is a gentle exhale, a tribute to fleeting togetherness and the comfort of shared memories.
There are no overdubs here, no studio tricks - just voices, friends, and stories echoing off wooden walls and into the night.
