Amsterdam based House head Nachtbraker made his first appearance on "Apparel Music" and on Detroit Swindle's infamous HEIST recordings earlier this year with his fantastic "Gute Laune" EP. We are very pleased to welcome him to our Dirt Crew family and to release his new record.

Being best known for his smooth and deep production with jazzy and soulful elements he also added these ingredients carefully in these 4 new tracks. The opening track „Alright“ has this great cathy piano hook that progresses though the whole track and gives us that sweet old school House feeling, absolutely funky as hell and a standout track that will have you run to the booth to check what the hell it is... unique in every way.

The second track „Braun“ takes us to rougher and more bouncing Hip Hop like beats with spaced out sounds and great Detroit-ish chord progressions. The title track „Janus“ is the true Gem of this release, slow and funky with a tasty Bass Line that gets you moving like crazy once it drops. The whole track teases and teases until it finally opens up to House heaven in the latter part of the track. Last on this wonderful EP is the elegant „Warme Kachel“ or should we say „Hot Oven“ haha.. well the sound is in the title, a very warm and cosy little piece that gets you in the right mood for some heated party action.. either way as warm up track or cool down closing song this beauty will set the right mood for sure.

Since emerging last year, Nachtbraker (Maurits Verwoerd) has been cultivating his laid back, funky house sound with his last four releases on various labels including Hudd Trax and Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings. Verwoerd now returns to his roots by presenting his next opus, the Backstabber EP, on Dirt Crew Recordings – the imprint that also homed his very first release back in September of last year.

Our top pick and first up on the flip is "Time is of the Essence", with a slow-developing, intrinsic funk that we have now learned to expect and love in Nachtbraker's music. The track's unbounded energy and embedded groove is anchored by its speaker-rattling bass line, making it an ultimate choice for any dancefloor.

Nachtbraker's Backstabber EP drops on vinyl (27 Nov), and digitally (30 Nov).

The man that represents the deeper side of Amsterdam house is back on Dirt Crew. His last outing on Detroit Swindle’s “Heist Recordings”, the “Le Troubadour EP” was another fine example of that laid back funky deep house only Nachtbraker can squeeze out.

Settling into the groove immediately is ‘Hump’, bouncing chords and a warbling Rhodes lead into an irresistible bass line. The title track, ‘Backstabber’ hits right in the hips, a chugging feel good work out for the dance floor. The flip remains true to the flavor of this whole EP, offering up a massive speaker rattling bottom end and funk flavored keys on ’Time Is Of The Essence’, while ’Monday Mourning’ steps up with expertly cut disco samples, an effervescent excursion with a jazzy lead and a touch of vocoder for good measure. The release is rounded out with digi only offering ‘Yaaa’, a sub driven deep house work out, boasting swelling loops and hypnotic percussion.

Nachtbraker’s sharp sense of harmony and knack for vibe is ever present throughout this whole release, he has truly fine tuned his sound to a perfect balance of unbounded energy and stylish musicianship. We are happy to welcome him back on Dirt Crew with this classy release.

A2 - Nachtbraker - Backstabber | DIRT093

Sheffield label and party Delver Deeper proves 13 needn’t be unlucky with a standout new EP from fast rising star X Gets The Crest. The tidy two track package follows on from jams by artists like Jay Tripwire, Brett Johnson and Groove Assassin and continues to mark the Northern label as an essential modern outlet.

X Gets The Crest is George Hilton, a producer from London who has impressed with a remix of Phasen previously on Delve Deeper and an EP on German label Audaz that picked up support from the likes of Bondax. He has a wide remit that touches on genuinely different styles of dance, and this new EP is evidence of that.

The brilliant ‘Osita’ has an infectious swagger to it that is naughty and nasty. Bumping drums and Afro rhythms percolate under big bass notes and ad libbed vocals. It’s a party starting house tune for dancefloor destruction.

The other fresh original here is ‘You Never Change,’ a completely different type of track, but one that has just as much impact. This one is a smoochy and romantic deep house roller with vibing mid tempo drums that make you want to loosen your limbs. Colourful perc, steamy vox and woody xylophone all add charm and authentic funk to the beat and round out a devastating package that excels in two very different ways.

They had been at that corner for over 24 years and fed me for most of my teen-hood up (I'm a fucking fool who does not cook). Ever since they closed, I refuse to get falafel elsewhere. Every time I had the falafel, it was made right on the spot. Food that was integral to both myself and my music.
