The ocean was vast, watching from atop the lighthouse he looked out at the endless expanse of blue before him. The horizon in the distance was barely recognisable, the meeting of two azure forces almost invisible to the naked eye. He watched as the waves crashed into shore and rolled softly back out again - the air was warm and thick in the midst of the summer heat. Sighing, he took one final look before proceeding to walk down the spiral staircase of his lighthouse, soon this would all be gone. 

Volta Cab is set to release a new sun kissed EP on MM Discos, a balearic affair with real prominence and might. The record is nicely rounded up with remixes by Pletnev and Anatolian Weapons. It is the Anatolian Weapons remix that we bring to you today.

Niki is a Vancouver-based DJ, musician and the host of the monthly podcast series 'Allure' on Frisky Radio. Within a very short time, she has put herself on the map as an up and coming DJ. From raiding her parents’ record collection when she was just a child, to becoming resident at Vancouver’s MIA, Niki has continuously been living with the music in the forefront. Niki conveys her expression of life to listeners and engages crowds through her live sets when she’s behind the decks, and through dozens of podcasts and studio mixes.

An diesem warmen Sommertag freuen wir uns wieder außerordentlich, einen so musisch ästhetischen Podcast in unserer Reihe begrüßen zu dürfen. 

So punktiert wie H. Hallers Trackselection in diesem frischen Afterhoursounds Ohrenschmaus ist sonst nur der Fleck zwischen den zwei Hs in seinem Namen. Mit einem etwas langsamer um die Ecke rollenden Podcast als gewohnt, nimmt er uns mit auf eine stilsichere Reise entlang der kurvigen Pfade des Deep-Tunes-Tals bis ganz auf die Spitze des Bouncy-Bergs. 
Oben am Ziel angekommen, wenn auch mehr theoretisch als praktisch, weil bekanntermaßen der Weg das Podcastziel ist, lässt sich doch sehr passend im letzten Track eine Flagge auf dem Gipfel hissen. Eine Flagge mit der Aufschrift „Kiss me, I‘m only human“ und die damit im Winde wehende Botschaft für Toleranz und Mitgefühl und die Relevanz des Küssens und Kuschelns, besonders an Kater-Montagen.

(School trip continued from Witchtapes #46, 47 and 63)

Our bus was slowly crawling on the bumpy highway from Dresden to Berlin (which had been constructed in the Nazi-era and hadn’t seen much repairs since then).  The slow speed was due to a suspension failure which couldn’t be repaired in communist East-Germany so we just hobbled towards Berlin, with even the primitive Trabant cars overtaking us.  But the Belgian school girls on the bus didn’t mind the slow speed and we were all in an excellent mood after a very pleasant 2 day stay in Dresden.  The shockingly awkward crossing of the Wartha-Herleshausen border checkpoint and the eerie misty night in the ghost town Erfurt 3 days ago were already long forgotten and we were all looking forward to our stay in Berlin, or rather East-Berlin as the town was still divided into a (capitalist, democratic) Western half and a (communist, totalitarian) Eastern half, with both sides hermetically separated by the infamous Berlin Wall.  Back then (and mainly because of the division of the city), Berlin must have looked pretty sleepy in comparison with the vibrant, thriving, artistic city it became after the reunification of Germany.
Like Dresden, East-Berlin was full of friendly people and we chatted quite a lot (in our broken German) with the local youth, demolishing for good our prejudices about brainwashed broken-spirited people on the other side of the Iron Curtain.  Yet, there were also some awkward moments, like our visit to the telecommunication tower at the Alexanderplatz.  It was dusk time and from the observation platform we could see the sharp separation between both halves of the City, with West-Berlin bathing in light while  East-Berlin was plunged into near-complete darkness… everything was scarce in the communist East, also electricity.
After returning to the hotel, we went to the bar and ordered a beer.  So far, all foods and beverages which we consumed in East-Germany were absolutely dreadful, so I didn’t expect much of this pint of beer.  The name of the beer was ‘Budweiser’ but luckily this brew had nothing to do with the watery American substance with the same name.  On the bottle I could read that this beer came from the town of Budweis (České Budějovice) in Czechoslovakia (now in the Czech Republic) and the taste was absolutely fabulous … probably the best non-Belgian beer in the world.  And this beer was not only tasty, it had also a magic effect on my German language skills (despite drinking only one bottle) and for the first (and last and only) time of my life I was capable to have fluent conversations in German with some locals.  It was our last evening in the communist world and we were really having a great time.  One of my roommates even got so much carried away that she briefly smuggled a Czechoslovakian schoolboy into our hotel room.  Despite (or thanks to) the fact that we couldn’t communicate (he only spoke Czech … or was it Slovak?), he was a real cutie … but it was clear that things were maybe getting a bit too cozy in the East and it was time to go home …
The next day, we crossed Checkpoint Charlie into West-Berlin and – after the bus got the much-needed repairs – we headed back to Belgium, leaving behind the mystifying parallel world on the other side of the Iron Curtain.  Little did we know that only a short time later, the Wall would suddenly collapse and Berlin would finally rise from the ashes …

Since more than 12 years the heard of the two seaside Boys starts jumping when they listen to downtempo. Originally from a small town in north- east Germany, AHAB and PICHI start moving to berlin 6 years ago. Due their journeys through all different Clubs and festivals, in south America and Europe they fell in love with slowly, deep and experimental house music. Soon both realized, that listening to music is awesome, but mixing on your own is magical. They started in 2018 playing birthday bashes and house parties. Unhappily in 2020 Corona stopped the festival gigs for this year, they were able to play for @Basskontakt at @ZurückzudenWurzelnFestival.
In earlier days 2020, they decided to start a podcast project to connect Downtempo-collectives worldwide and support upcoming DJ’s & DJanne. #019: AHAB  - Hörwerk mit 𝓛impio 𝓡ecords

Since more than 12 years AHABS heart starts jumping when he listens to  downtempo. Born in a small town in north- east Germany, AHAB moved on to Berlin a couple of years ago. During his tours to  various clubs and festivals, he instantly fell in love with slowly, deep and dark house music. He then realized that listening to music is awesome, but mixing his own fave tunes can create even more magic.  This is why he started with house parties in  2018. At the beginning of 2020 he was able to play at some clubs in Berlin before Corona stopped his gigs. Luckily he was able to play for @Basskontakt at Zurück zu den WurzelnFestival (online version).

When spinning, he wants to make people smile with his typical dark and slow emotional deep house, dark disco and slow tech sounds. The sound he plays can be described as a musically rollercoaster for dancers, dreamers, travelers and all other sorts of positive people. 

Furthermore he has recently started his very own podcast project with his friend soundcloud.com/pichi_after-aua to connect Downtempo-collectives worldwide and support upcoming acts.
