Directly from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this set was created by DJs Yule and Alive Pop-Up during carnival in pandemic times. The inspiration came to Yule a few years ago when she saw some dj sets like Projeto Mujique and Vovóhop. They sought ultra-popular Brazilian references and tried to express some of the things that you would, for sure, hear in Brazilian streets during carnival. For those who have never been to a Carnival in Brazil, it is nothing more (and nothing less) than a total and endless mess of costumes and unsynchronized music. Through lots of different drums and live versions of extremely famous songs they try to bring this nostalgic feeling: complete madness. Mixing Brazilian popular styles was Flavio Cesar's idea. Music researcher, owner of a legacy of 5,000 records, and one of the most beloved guys in the Brazilian vinyl scene, Alive Pop-Up is also an itinerant record store project, open to the 4 corners of the planet, traveling and receiving international vinyl buyers here in Brazil, and passing our heritage through discotheques and exhibitions. Flavio was not only essential for the music selection but also participated in the first minutes of the set as a great Master of Ceremony, opening the party! Some of these lyrics are extremely politic, as in Mangueira's Samba, Or Veronez live street recording, and others extremely sexy and flirty. This set tries to go to every single corner of Brasil. >>Who are you and where are you from?
I'm Kotoe, born in Japan, raised in Japan and based in Berlin.

>>When and how did you start your musical journey?
When I was 6, I started taking classes of japanese karaoke singing. With 18, I started a musical theater career for almost ten years and switched to electronic music in 2016. 

>>What do you like particularly about "slow" music?
All the spaces, rhythms and sounds that comes in between the 1 and the 2.

>>What inspired you while creating the set?
The beautiful landscape of Halkidiki in Greece, the Ethnik bar and the lift of the Corona restrictions after so long. 

>>What's your current favorite track or set?
Tribute from Last Waltz.

>>Which beautiful moment do you like to remember in association with electronic music?
The final song that I sung with Danilo Timm, my best friend, in Seebühne from Garbicz 2019. We both ended up in tears. haha.

>>What's your wish for the future nightlife?
That the dancefloor keep embracing a lot of people, being a safe space for who is in need to it.

I called one of my close friends when my problems started piling up

He got angry all of a sudden, flared up
I'm guessing he bounced where he sat

Ist n kleinen Moment her seit dem letzten Podcast.
Aber haben euch dafür was sehr feines mitgebracht. Irgendwo zwischen Köln und Berlin bewegend, stellen wir euch Zhta vor – wir haben uns direkt in den abgedrehten Sound von Zhta verliebt.

Euer Schiff hat nach langer, entbehrungsreicher Seefahrt inkl. Nazaré-like Wellengängen und zehrenden Skorbutausbrüchen endlich die Küste einer unbekannten Insel erreicht 🏝

Catan soll sie heißen! Doch ihr seid nicht die einzigen Entdecker:innen. Auch andere unerschrockene Seefahrer:innen haben ihre Anker vor der Küste Catans geworfen ⚓️ 

Nachdem ihr euch mit geschärften Machetenklingen durch den dichten Dschungel geschlagen habt, lichtet sich das Dickicht und ihr trefft auf den Stamm der @Gluecksstraehne, der die Insel schon seit geraumer Zheit belagert. Ihr weibliches Oberhaupt: @zhta von Catan 👑

Gemeinsam mit der Revolutuonsführerin Ginger dem Chicken 🐥 betanzt und bezhingt die Monarchin von Catan Tag ein Nacht aus ihre Inselherrschaft. Nach und nach unterwarfen sich der Ziehtanerin weitere beflügelte Wesen. Schnell waren das Inselmanifest der Rausch- und Rudelfamilie verabschiedet 📜

✔️ Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Der musikalische Einfluss ist einfach: Als Teenie war mein Traum später Rapperin zu werden - Hip Hop hat mich damals total geprägt. Gleichzeitig hat mich auch die damalige Techno-Szene in meiner Heimatstadt Köln gut auf Trab gehalten und so habe ich mich durch die verschiedensten elektronischen Genres getanzt. Ganz der Teenie-Traum ist es dann nicht geworden, aber ich liebe es weiterhin mit verschiedenen Genres zu spielen, musikalisch immer wieder Neues auszuprobieren und vor allem Hip Hop und Rap Elemente im Downtempo/Slow-Rave unterzubringen.

✔️ Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Wenn der Dänsfloor bebt und der Schweiss von der Decke auf die Technik tropft (uff!), solch eine Afterhour wie das legendäre Lieblings-Theater des Mensch Meiers! <3

✔️ Wie hast du den Gig empfunden?

Ein absolutes Theater im Theater und ein paar mystische Kreaturen waren auch dabei!

@zhta (she/her) is a Cologne native based in Berlin, 
who has been finding her love for music through DJing & producing since 2019. 
With musical roots in slow downtempo, she has experimented with different genres over the years 
and found her own style: 
This moved between bouncy midtempo mixed with hip-hop and house elements and a pinch of nostalgic 2000s favorite tracks. 
Their sound has already been heard at showcases such as Afterhour Sounds, Mystic Creatures and .down, as well as in clubs such as the legendary Mensch Meier (R.I.P.), Beate Uwe and at festivals such as Klangtherapie and Zugvögel Festival.

Ehm… Wooow wow and uffff…  Back home from Afrikaburn - that was something really really really special. I met so many lovely people and beautiful souls, made new friends, digital friends became real ones, discovered sweet and creative ideas at every corner, got surprised over and over again… Expectations were built up and broken down to experience something else and unexpected… And just when I thought I learned my lesson about having expectations about whatsoever or taking anything for "granted" I checked the recordings of the sets I played down there in the desert, to decide which one I would like to upload and share with you, I had to realize that I fucked it up and all of them have the shittiest recording quality ever… Hahahaha, ohhh man…  So what can you do? Well - I decided to figure out the playlist of my sunset-set at Everland and just record it once more here back home… Hope you'll enjoy it anyways…

Hola!

 Here is the recording of my very first sunrise set at Burning Man 2018 in the Black Rock Desert. I started playing around 5:45 am, the lights and lasers were still glowing in the cold darkness of the night..as the songs were passing by, the sky turned blue and the horizon warmer. Burners were all facing the deep playa, waiting for the sun to appear. It was an honour to soundtrack this moment and share music in such a magical place. No matter how hard I try, words can barely describe the energy and emotions felt in that instant... I hope music can express it better. 

I'd like to thank Maxa Camp & The Gardens of Babylon for inviting me to play on this beautiful Xaman Art Car...the mystical blue deer.   I’m very grateful to have shared this moment with so many incredible souls, old and new friends.

The Amazon is burning. Its rich fauna and flora, as well as its indigenous people, are in danger. The Rainforest is vital for life on earth, and we need to see this crisis as a catalyst for action.   

This set was recorded live at Newspeak in Montreal, and was made with all my heart. The intention is to raise awareness toward the urgency of the fundamental changes we must undertake as a species. 

We need to rethink our relationship with the Earth: The Occidental way of life is certainly comfortable and sometimes makes us feel like anything is possible… But hidden from our eyes is a plethora of highly unsustainable practices that need to stop immediately. 

 Please have a listen, please repost, and PLEASE discuss this topic with the people around you. Let’s find solutions!

Dear friends, we are delighted to present to you our first compilation:
‘Mtsvane’ in Georgian language means Green, the color Green carries the vibration of growth, harmony, new beginnings, health, renewal, harmony, hope, peace, and environment. 
Exactly one year ago we started our new year with lots of positive intentions, unstoppable musical rituals, love, endless dances, and hugs. 
At that time we couldn’t possibly imagine any of the outcomes we all are dealing with right now. 
An idea we are about to share with you has always been there. 
we have been circling around it, and 2020 made it all more clear it was time for action. 
It was time to dedicate ourselves to something bigger than all of us, and we choose to do so with what we love. 
With this movement, we’d like to spread the word into our community that we all are capable of doing more, with what we love. 
We believe that the only way to say thanks to our Mother Earth, who suffers so much especially last period, is to leave something after us. 
The whole revenue from album sales will serve global reforestation. 
Nothing from this would be possible if not for the enormous support from all the artists involved.
We are beyond grateful for this compilation, in which you'll find a glorious selection of downtempo, electronic, ethnic, folk, deep, tribal melodies.

We have teamed up with a non-profit organization,
‘’One tree planted’’. 
After collecting the revenue for the planting season, everyone involved in this project will choose a region and every dollar will plant a tree.
