Melodic Incidents in an Irrational World [Club Mackan]

We begin our retro futuristic journey into 2024 with a brilliant EP by french DJ and producer Vaälha. Through dark soundscapes, mean synthesizers and heavy percussion, this Odyssey will make you feel like the main character in any sci-fi movie exploring the vast unknown space or an alien planet far from home.

To make this journey a little safer, we brought along three talented producers; Panthera, My Secret Playground and Austher, to guide us through eventual parallel dimensions and alternate realities.

With their own interpretations of what an ‘Odyssey’ could be like, Panthera opted for what we think is a modern EBM interpretation of reality. While this reality may seem like a stripped off version of reality, don’t be fooled! There’s an intricate amount of detail waiting to be explored.

My Secret Playground turned ‘Laser Shooting’ into an acid trip, exploring possible and parallel dimensions which seems both creepy and hauntingly beautiful, by adding additional melodies to the original.

Austher turned ‘Clear Mind’ into a real powerhouse. A very adventurous powerhouse that despite all the power, feels somewhat more optimistic. If there was any fuel missing in the tank, it’s because Austher’s version used up all of it.

Colapso is a Paris-based DJ who started in 2018 as a passionate digger and co-founder of the Apéro Notturno collective.

Colapso about the mix:

'Several years ago when I started DJing, I used to play a lot of House Music. I've always enjoyed it, but my musical preferences changed over the years to Italo Disco-related genres.

In 2023, I started to dig a lot of tracks of the Pre-House era which are inspired by Italo Disco – i.e. Proto House – when producers were using the LinnDrum and the DMX from Italo Disco – they would then replace them by the 909.

More recent tracks are blending Italo Disco and House together, and I really enjoy them. A few producers are doing this – such as Emmet Read, Demi Requisimo and Donald's House.

This mix is about bringing the spotlight to this genre and these artists'

This time Laion decided to show up to the party alone, showcasing his fantastic talent for melodies and spicy arrangements with three original tracks. Whether it’s acid or piano house masquerading as italo or a combination of the two, you’ll find it here. And while we play dress up. We also have three very talented remixers, each bringing their own costume to the party. Let’s say hi to Bubs, Pianopoli and Sex Kino. 

If you know Bubs, you know that this guy likes disco, italo, trance and eurodance. And what better way than to dress up Conquest Of Happiness in a rather fashionable, but subtle eurodance styling? That’s exactly what we get here, but still very much attached to the 80s.

As for King Day, the Belgian producer Pianopoli opted for a bit of attitude to his fresh new look while still remaining true to the original, still very much inspired by the 80s and 90s. However, not much for following rules, he brought his whole entourage of signature pads to the party despite the invitation saying +1. 

When you’re at a party, there is always that guy or couple who stands out from the rest. Whether good or bad, that’s up for you to decide. But guess which one showed up like that to our party? You guessed right. Sex Kino has absolutely no regard for dress codes and we love that! They enter with raw determination and a bit of flair. This hypnotic robotic acid trance take on Virtues Of Idleness will make you forget everyone else at the party. 

Now, let’s dance!

Here at Bordello, the hot season has already arrived. Championing this warmth is Italy’s very own Hey Cabrera! The Turin based dynamo melds elements of electro disco, italo and house to create a uniquely aromatic blend of dancefloor joy. Clean drum patterns, claps and hi-hats are at the foundation of “Italo Void”. From these percussion points, a bold and ensnaring melody takes flight; glimmering synthlines shining from beginning to end. Fellow Bordello mainstay, Lauer arrives to bring his own analogue sound to the title piece. Accentuating that irrepressible tune, piano keys give extra ballast with a touch of late evening romance as we wait for the sun to come up. The flip transports us to Scandinavia for some unrequited love. Although “Forelskelse” may mean unexplored passions, this track is brimming with emotions. Burning with a smouldering energy, ingredients from disco to house combine to produce a wonderfully uplifting work. David Bay, of Zissou Records fame, closes with his interpretation of “Forelskelse”.
