DJ/producer/sound-designer Jerry Bouthier hooks up with Germany’s Emerald & Doreen records for compilation-mix “Mystery Tour". The London-based Frenchman picks his favorite tracks & remixes from the young imprint’s already extensive catalogue (500+ tracks & remixes in three years) and produces a 1h idiosyncratic mix taking listeners on a magic ride.

The man behind Continental records, long-time Kitsuné collaborator, half of baleariscopop act JBAG with Andrea Gorgerino, music director of Vivienne Westwood and other fashion labels, Jerry Bouthier remains a music lover without blinkers, eternally enamored by futuristic evolutions and enthralling tunes. It is this shared gargantuan enthusiasm for truly diverse musical forms of expression, so long honesty and creativity are palpable, that naturally brought together (with the help of a chance email) and connected deeply Emerald & Doreen and monsieur Bouthier. Jerry explains:
 
“Out of nowhere I started to receive promos from an international cast on this hard to pin German label packing EPs of such diverse variations and remixes of the same track(s) and more often than not, I would find a real gem in there.
I began to look forward to what they'd bring out next, curious and excited by the fact this label didn't play safe or by the rules. You weren’t too sure where it belonged and what you were about to unfold, so refreshing in 2015. The fact that it’d put so much emphasis on vocal songs and that guitars kept poking in here and there at regular intervals only made me more eager. 
 
It eventually dawned on me, Emerald & Doreen is like a post-punk label for today's electronic generations. Past the stage of being stuck to definitions and business plans, it offers a radically different outlook. 
Crucially there are a lot of characters to be found here. You instantly grasp you're faced with the work of true musicians, self-taught or trained but often with a DIY approach, the kind who perpetually explores the unknown, dodging rules and conventions.
 
With such a diverse and lengthy catalogue, it took me a while to compile my very fave 21 tracks, the more generous offerings to my ears, enchanting melodies and dramatic developments firing in all directions; the result is a seamless, albeit slightly out there, introduction to the label. And with a slight twist too, almost like an evocative film to dance and listen to…”

Early 90’s, born & raised to David Bowie & Talking Heads music Did Virgo was ready to stumble upon House & Techno Music.
Embarking on a trip from London to Chicago & Detroit, the 30 years old boy got access to Marseille’s 1st electronic club control desk as a destination.
Techno & House Music were still a sub-culture in the making and Did Virgo wanted to share the love not only by djing but also by opening a bar, broadcasting a radio show & promoting events in his hometown.
Y2K was the time to make it complete by running a label « Pornflake » & starting
producing music with a friend. The boys got the chance to remix « Troublemakers » and to release a few EPs on an English label…. Did Virgo was ready to start to produce music on his own and he started another label called virgo music with his soulmate Paul Virgo.
2010, « La dame Noir » opens a bar in Marseille, this place is devoted to slow tempo & the dark side of disco music, Did Virgo is attracted.
The bar evolves in a club, he takes a residency, the club evolves into a label and Did Virgo find a natural home to release his music. And from there, the story evolved...here is his spæcial mix!

‘Voyage Sauvage Vol.1’ launches Emerald & Doreen’s new compilation series with a rich and diverse mix gathering the best from the German digital label’s latest and forthcoming releases

And once again it is mixed by Jerry Bouthier, seasoned club DJ, half of baleariscopop act JBAG, catwalk sound-designer (Vivienne Westwood…) and first-class compiler for Kitsuné, Gomma and his own Continental imprint. Having fallen for Emerald & Doreen’s extraordinary diversity and somehow mystifying futuristic vision, the French ex-pat has enthusiastically jumped on board and offered his mixing talents without reserve.
Only a few months back he selected and mixed ‘Mystery Tour’, his favourite tracks yet on Emerald & Doreen and very much the evocative trip through the spellbinding dimensions of musical galaxies that you’d expect from this multiform label. Now Bouthier delivers ‘Voyage Sauvage’, the first mix in a series of what could be dubbed ‘aural magazines’ in which you’ll be able to delve into every few months in order to sample the many flavours of this imaginative imprint without blinkers.

Unassumingly indie in spirit and set in a vigorous DIY approach miles away from the business’ merchants, Emerald & Doreen is twisting conventions, joining the dots between the past, the present and the future. Unable to stick to one sound or style, chaotically mixing genres, indie-dance, synth-pop, balearic, cosmic, electronica, ambient, housey, electro, tech... you name it, it first and foremost focuses on the magic that operates between song and remix, the artist and the producers, regardless of churches and dogmas.

The brainchild of four longtime friends, musicians & djs, Emerald & Doreen was purely born out of passion and the desire to build something a little different. Only just three year old and already with over 100 singles and 500 tracks under its belt, its output has been unstoppable.

“I kept receiving these mismatched promos which had me wondering and soon warmed up to Emerald & Doreen’s delirious opened mind. You never know what's gonna hit you next, there seems to be total freedom. Firing away endless intriguing musical trails, often quite feminine, continuously mixing genres, jumping from one end of the spectrum to another, I realized this was not a imprint you could pigeon-hole easily, exactly what is needed right now, a vital breath of fresh air. 
It’s not about the usual codes here, you’re in the wild zone on E&D. These people are messing about with your sensations and courting your gut feelings. Although not infallible, art and pop are very subjective matters, there’s a little bit for everyone, plenty of charismatic lunatics and strong characters at work. What’s not to love?”
