Sometimes our path, or journey as it were, leads us to an edge. Edges of self, life, circumstances, reality, cliffs, you name it… Some edges are dangerous, sharp and jagged, even life threatening. Other edges encourage us to traverse them. Back in the 1970’s, there was this great sand cliff we used to go to, in Northern Europe, where we could run and hurl ourselves off of it and land in the water below. It was exhilarating, as the hang time allowed for contemplation in the moment, during the free fall. It felt like we were flying like the bluebirds in the sky. At the base of the cliff, we hung out by the water. We were mostly unfamiliar with the freedoms we had found there. Harry ran off and intentionally lost his swim trunks on the beach, while chasing after a beautiful woman who herself was sans swimsuit. He was in love with her. She had other ideas. He was drinking heavily, then he passed out, ass up in the sand, under the blazing sun, after making a fool of himself. It was a sad moment all around. By the time we found him, he had a bad sunburn. Poor guy. Could hardly sit down. A bunch of us were camped in the forest, not far from the cliffs. That night, I was sitting by the fire next to a wild-eyed woman and asked her something in another language. She blew smoke in my face and laughed nervously as if taunting a bear. Then she kissed me. We all seemed to be chasing after a freedom that did not exist in this life, at least for us. Some of us would later die trying to find that same freedom. For some strange reason I survived. We were wild back then and maybe always will be. This song contains some of that freedom among other things.

The Eclectic Collective -- composition

This song began its life when Ken came to us with a series of drum skeletons about half a year ago with the intent of starting several McDonald's themed songs that The Mysterious Decibel was writing for the group. Well MD had some life getting in the way and then decided to pursue another project full time, leaving us with four solid songs, but without vocals. Ken ended up supplying the solid lead vocals and harmonies you hear the whole way through, with original lyrics that he also wrote.
  But before any of that happened, we got this song together. Stephen was first up, coming up with the main guitar riffs that carry the whole way through. Josh responded quickly to the his guitar parts with some matching bass to go along with it. 
  About this time, Mark heard a funky break in there, and so installed every part of it all on his own, including the clavinet, organ, bass, and drums. Although, Ken is also still playing in the break, as well. When we had it pretty well set, Tez came along and added some fiery guitar to go along with Stephen's. 
  Once we had it in the can, we turned it over to Mark for his expert mix. Stephen mastered it for us, too, for the final, winning touch.
  This ended up being a satisfying product of The Eclectic Collective's teamwork. We hope you enjoyed listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

"For My Lady" is a song written by Ray Thomas that was released on the Moody Blues 1972 album Seventh Sojourn. It was also released as the B-side to the single "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)"
The lyrics to "For My Lady" are about the singer's desire for true love.The lyrics may have been inspired by Thomas' recent divorce at the time he wrote the song.

Music journalist Geoffrey Freakes described "For My Lady" as an "uncomplicated, uncluttered and blissfully romantic song" that is "supremely elegant." Moody Blues biographer Marc Cushman felt that "the melody and heartfelt vocal performance convey a sadness despite the positive nature of the lyrics. Tampa Tribune critic Ralph Harold described the song as "an elegant love song, almost Elizabethan, although somewhat gimmicky with a cymbal sound of ocean waves and a nautical harmonica and organ background.

At one point Justin Hayward plays a guitar note that had some listeners thinking that the guitar string broke. But according to Hayward that it was not a broken string but merely an emphasized pluck to accompany the lyrics "and slowly bow her head."                          Wikipedia
