Józef Flakus, also known as Somnolent Works, is a producer, DJ and music explorer based in Upper Silesia. He is passionate about breakbeat/jungle rhythms, old school electro, and techno music, often with robotic and strong elements. He loves to break conventions and explore new musical directions taken from different genres of music. The gritty and atmospheric landscape of factories, mines, and steelworks of his hometown region has had a significant impact on his music, particularly in its darker and more experimental elements. Somnolent Works sound often reflects the mechanical rhythms and metallic textures of the industrial world.

He is a regular member of the CEL club in Katowice, where he can be heard playing his eclectic selections from behind the decks. His latest releases include his debut EP titled "Surface Noise" which was self-released at the end of 2021. The EP showcases his distinctive style of noisy breakbeat rhythms, while also exploring new musical directions. In late 2022, he released the "Paperclip" single on the SKAN Records (@skan-rec) compilation, which further demonstrated his ability to craft intricate and immersive soundscapes within the electro genre. On March 23rd, 2023, he released another, four-track EP, called "Elephant On Drugs" on the POTOP Records (@potoprecords) in Katowice.

Somnolent Works - Underton Live

Mix #061 comes from the boss of one of the most influential and important electro labels in recent years, Bass Agenda head-honcho, Andy Barton.


Andy created Bass Agenda as a podcast series on Soundcloud in early 2012. Over the years the show has been hosted by various radio stations before reaching its home on Juan Atkins’ DeepSpaceRadio.com in Detroit. The show has evolved into a magazine style format – with features, interviews, mixes, and live sets from a broad range of Electro and Techno artists and DJs including Dave Clarke, Anthony Rother, AUX88, The Egyptian Lover, Helena Hauff, Dez Williams, David Meiser, ADULT, Plant 43, and many more. The shows and musical impact of people like Dave Clarke, John Peel, and Gilles Peterson inspired Andy to make the show what it has become. The show reaches its 200th episode in the next couple of months.

Bass Agenda Recordings began in 2013, with its debut ‘The Fight Against the Mundane’ featuring many of the guests that had appeared on the show in its first year. The label is due to take break for 6 to 12 months after over 100 releases on digital, vinyl, CD, and USB formats. Before then there are three releases to come on vinyl from the Dutch Transhumanism collective (w1b0, RXmode, TFHats, and Slaves of Sinus), an EP from Detroit’s Filthiest, and album from Bass Junkie. Tracks from all three of these are featured in Andy’s mix. In 2020 Andy curated CAREBOT, a massive 100+ tracks compilation raising money for NHS Charities Together and Médecins Sans Frontières Covid-19 initiatives. So far, the CAREBOT$ has raised over £8,000.
