Unearthed by Mike Peden for BBE Music, Per Husby Septett's ‘The Peacemaker’ is a beautiful, deep and under-the-radar small big band set recorded in 1976 by the elite of Norway's jazz cognoscenti, led by pianist and band leader Per Husby.

Originally issued for Husby on the Studentersamfundets Plateselskap label by the Student Society in Trondheim, Norway, this obscure jazz rarity had no budget for PR or distribution, and with just a mere 500 copies pressed sales were scarce; it soon became a collectors item in Norway and across the globe. The album creates a big-sounding dynamic mix of original compositions by Per Husby and covers, including Harold Land's modal masterpiece title cut ‘The Peacemaker’, plus a top-draw selection of tunes encompassing post bop, modal, bossa and ballads by the likes of Kenny Wheeler, Cedar Walton and Charlie Parker.

Reissued with original artwork and the approval of Per Husby himself, who has also provided the sleeve notes, ‘The Peacemaker’ is now available once again for download, streaming, CD and as a double 180g LP cut at 45rpm by the Grammy-nominated Carvery studio.

Glenn Fallows and Mark Treffel released their first album, ‘The Globeflower Master Vol. 1’, on Mr Bongo in September 2021. With its lush, warm and timeless productions paying homage to classic 60s and 70s soundtrack composers, it was very well received and struck a chord with the scene’s connoisseurs. Louder Than War emphatically stated, "It’s impossible not to like The Globeflower Masters Vol. 1.”, with Gigwise echoing that praise “slickly compelling retro vibes”. 

The Globeflower Master Vol. 2 is the slightly edgier and more grown-up sequel to Mark and Glenn's 2021 debut album. For this excursion, the Brighton-based duo wanted to lean a little further into their European film soundtrack influences, with particular inspiration mined from the works of Stefano Torossi, David Shire, and Roger Webb. This expansion of their sound builds upon the rich tapestry of cinematic funk à la David Axelrod, Serge Gainsbourg and Morricone that fashioned Vol. 1. Here the arrangements, melodies, and harmonies have been refined; only what is needed is left. 
 
The recordings are drenched in visual imagery; they stimulate the senses and invite the imagination to roam. Ethereal, hazy memories of lost summers are triggered; the beauty of listening to music when driving along a deserted road in the Italian countryside lined with cypress trees heading towards the sun, and beyond. As the musical journey progresses, we even take a voyage to another planet. Whether these memories are real or constructed recollections of scenes from film and television, the tracks evoke a feeling of nostalgia and comfort. Like all the best music, 'The Globeflower Masters Vol. 2' takes us out of ourselves even if it's only temporarily.
 
To consolidate the shape of the sound, drummers Timmy Rickard and Ollie Boorman (who also featured on Vol. 1) and John Maiden (Tricky collaborator) sprinkled their magic and forged their stamps onto the recordings. Collaborating with other talented musicians contributed to the picture Mark and Glenn wanted to paint. The ‘Globeflower Master Vol. 2’ is a fitting tribute to the music they love and care deeply about and a glorious addition to their musical world.

German nu jazz stalwarts Micatone return to Sonar Kollektiv after a six year hiatus with the ethereal and emotionally charged coming-of-age piece, Where Do You Belong?

The core duo of the band, Boris Meinhold on guitar and synths and Lisa Bassenge on vocals, have been making music for the label for over two decades, with five studio albums and numerous singles to date.

Where Do You Belong? was inspired by singer Lisa’s now nineteen year old daughter at a time when she was trying to find her place in the world. Lisa explains that the “song (is) about the in-between state humans find themselves in when they grow up. A phase where life seems full of possibilities, shiny and brand new but at the same time scary and somehow overwhelming.”

The track was produced during COVID lockdown with Boris using field recordings, guitars, an old organ bass pedal and choir that give the track that celestial feel. Lisa wrote the melodies and lyrics over the top and asked vocalists Lilian Bennett-Schaar, Johanna Maisel and Josephine Pritz to sing the choral parts.

Label head honcho, Oliver Glage, then had the idea of Stefan Leisering, of Jazzanova, providing the programmed drums, and the track was complete. An elegant, touching and yet somewhat intangible new offering, and the first of a little series of pieces out on the label in 2023.

2nd single of PACHANGA LP! I am happy to announce that on July 14 will be released "PACHANGA", an 8-track LP where I mixed Latin music and Hip-Hop! Another work of immersion for me, in order to capture the essence of a musical style and to try to restore it with my modest talents as a composer. An enriching experience that will have taught me a little more on the long road that is the world of composition.So I invite you for a musical journey with stops in Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela!

For this occasion the label S1X Music with whom I have been working for a few years now will publish the project in digital, but also in VINYL!!!!!

But until then two singles will give you a taste of the project!
"Pachanga", the eponymous title of this project will be published on all platforms during the day (Friday, June 16) and a second single should be released at the end of the month!
After all these years, this is the first time that one of my albums will be released in vinyl format, so I'm counting on you to grab the cake and support this physical project, because if it goes well, it might there are more in the future!
