As The Deer

A friend first introduced me to this version of the psalm in 2019, and I've loved it ever since. While I'm not confident the origins of this version (I believe it may be Russian Orthodox?), it's best sung as a group. 

An ison (or a sustained note) is usually held at the end of the chorus, while a reader speaks the first verse. Following the verse, the chorus is sung again, the choir sustains the ison, and the second verse is read. And so on and so forth.

Blessed Commemoration of the Ascension of the Prophet Elijah alive into Heaven! As one of my patron saints, I was greatly inspired by the agony Elijah felt, as written in 1 Kings 19:3-14. I encourage a reading of the passage while listening to this spiritual song. The beautiful icon in the thumbnail is written by George Makary, of www.copticicon.com. Perhaps in the future, there will be a re-release with the oud. 

Dedicated to my father of confession, who initially introduced me to this aspect of Elijah's ministry.
