DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, has returned with ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ via Mass Appeal Records [and Believe Digital in France], his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ he’s shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. Second full-length statement from Memphis' NOTS, Cosmetic fearlessly attacks the rough edges between desire, deceit, appearance and reality. Not chanting down Babylon, Natalie Hoffmann screams straight into its face. In this Game Of Death, Nots run through the maze of mirrors with sledgehammers. Oh, the sound of mirrors smashing. Let's smash some more.

Nots are still a wild guitar band, but above and below the guitar, bass and drum pound, Alexandra Eastburn's analog synth blurps melodies and nonsense, teasing squiggles of freedom which defy the false grid of modern life. Cosmetic? Emetic? "Monotone Lust" indeed. With Hoffmann on guitar & vocals, Eastburn on synth, Charlotte Watson beating drums, and Meredith Lones steering a solid path through the chaos on bass, Nots are neither content with the smug "stare at your shoes" approach of bands from both coasts, nor an Earth-hugging "we need to get back to nature" hippie copout. There might not be any answers here. That might be the point. Nots have arrived at the next level of their attack with a confidence and a music that lays waste to the wasteland without romantic attachment to a thing.

Following on from her critically lauded 2013 album "Crystal World," Marnie continues to develop her very own take on a modern pop sound through the release of "Strange Words And Weird Wars," out on 2nd June 2017 via Disco Pinata. 

Comprised of ten pulsating tracks, "Strange Words And Weird Wars" showcases the most impressive elements of Marnie’s incarnation as a solo artist along with those that made her band, Ladytron, one of the most respected pioneers in electronic music; soul crushing synths are wonderfully accented by hook-laden choruses as Marnie boldly explores up-tempo electro dream-pop.

The ability to effortlessly play with genres becomes more and more apparent as you work your way through what is such a sonically impressive record. Tracks such as album opener, the unashamedly melodic ‘Alphabet Block’, nods to contemporary pop artists; think an electro-pop fusion between La Roux and Kylie. ‘Girls’ expertly creates the immediacy of Ladyhawke’s best work, with ‘Electric Youth’ channeling '80s mall pop; a glorious guilty pleasure and one of the stand-out tracks on the album. Introspection comes in the form of the shoegaze-inspired ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’, giving the air of an unreleased b-side from a cult vampire movie, while forthcoming single Lost Maps is a pop classic in the making; a single that should be heard on dance floors all over the world.

After moving back to Glasgow in September 2012, after many years living in London, Marnie continued to write music following the success of her solo project and subsequent album release in 2013. Influenced by life, love, loss, politics and all things 80’s pop, Marnie has created an album that has an intelligence and a depth behind what, on the surface, is a melodic contemporary pop record. With support having already come from tastemakers like Pitchfork, Pop Matters, Under The Radar, Playboy, PopJustice and Consequence of Sound, Marnie will be looking to build upon this through the release of her second solo record; an album that will rightly be deemed one of the most anticipated of 2017.

'Lifetime of Love' is the debut album by Moon Diagrams, the solo recording project of Deerhunter co-founder and drummer Moses John Archuleta. Recorded in Georgia (Atlanta and Athens) and Manhattan (East Village) over a 10-year period, 'Lifetime of Love' finds Archuleta processing various stages of love, loss, and regeneration via forlorn outsider pop, minimal techno, and warm, weightless experimentation.
 
Archuleta follows sudden fits of inspiration or moments of chance, letting the unknown happen naturally while still confining himself to a specific set of boundaries. Samples were often taken from thrift store-sourced LPs, removed from their sleeves and chosen at random to find loops and textures. Elsewhere, Archuleta would anonymize digital songs and sound files, erasing track names, and re-recording new versions of the randomized mixes.

'Lifetime of Love' is the result of three extended fugue states, each marked by specific moments of catharsis. In 2007, between the release of Deerhunter’s breakout LP Cryptograms and 2008 LP Microcastle, Archuleta began his earliest solo experiments. The nascent exploration was enough to free himself and create sounds without inhibition. “Bodymaker” and “Nightmoves” are products of Archuleta’s earliest solo recordings, capturing his willingness to venture outside of the taut, mesmerizing drone rock of his main band. The chilling, ambient techno of “Nightmoves” perfectly foils and compliments the broodingly sullen but sincerely beautiful shuffle into the dark.
 
Between 2012 and 2015, Archuleta experienced a reset of sorts, including the collapse of his marriage (a 10-year long relationship), touring support for Ariel Pink and James Ferraro, and a rekindled interest in his solo material. He began actively cutting himself off from a number of personal relationships and experimented with various drugs to begin recording again. Locking himself in his practice space, Archuleta would use only the spare instruments he found laying around in recording sessions. This period yielded a disparate mix of sonic sketches, from eerily bucolic choir recordings (“Playground”), dusty art-pop (“Moon Diagrams”), and infectiously jubilant dance pop (“End of Heartache”).
 
For the final period, Archuleta found inspiration following an extended stint in Berlin, when he had flown out of the US on Christmas day, largely estranging himself from his friends and family. While holed up in the Michelberger Hotel, Archuleta fully intended to finish his debut LP. Instead, he remained in a state of relative isolation, haunting the hotel and taking in the city’s dark energy. After three weeks, Archuleta returned home in Atlanta, without having made much headway on the album. Feeling unproductive, depressed, and marred by jetlag, Archuleta resolved to finish the LP, working in a three-day fury of productivity that resulted in “Blue Ring,” “Ghost and the Host,” “Magic Killer,” and the final edits of 'Lifetime of Love.'
 
Subtly grandiose and quietly epic, the album explores a hopeful and curious beginning, a morose middle, and a bittersweet, optimistic end.
