The intention of the album is combine a cross section of musical art and meditative practice. Music, Sound and Frequency have a direct impact on our nervous system and can also be great teachers to bring us back home to a calm and centered place in the nervous system. 

The rhythmic based tracks, can also be used as breath practices. For example, the listener, could inhale for a count of 4 and exhale for a count of 6. This type of practice can help begin to move our nervous system to a place of relaxation and calm. By slowing the breaths per minute, and extending the exhale the practitioner is also sending a signal to the nervous system to begin to relax and release. If you aren't able to find the beat by the rhythm, simply watch the "second" hand for the count. (1 beat per second) Of course you can also simply enjoy the sounds!

Breath into Being

Be the Love you Seek is a fusion of musical expression with elements of sound therapy to assist in guiding the listener towards relaxation.  Instruments include Classical Guitar, Tibetan (Himalayan) Singing Bowls, Gong, Percussion and Native American Flute. (432hz and 936hz tunings)

Tracks 1 - 7 are musically based featuring classical guitar and Tibetan Singing Bowls.  Tracks 3, 4, 5, and 7 share the same tonal center (B) in the tuning of 936hz (third eye chakra).  Tracks 8 - 11 move towards a sound therapy based approach, culminating with a guided meditation in the final track.

Several of the tracks here will also be released as singles at a later date with an additional “breath guidance” option. The breath guidance option is for the listener to follow a sequence of rhythmically guided breath (with the music). This practice is designed to assist the listener in activating the parasympathetic nervous for deeper states of relaxation as well as meditative brainwave states.

This is from the album "Breath into Being" to be released Feb. 2022 -- This track featuring the lead vocals of Jeannine Scarpino (yoga teacher/vocalist). This track was recorded after a yoga class where I accompanied Jeannine's practice musically. She is also an amazingly talented vocalist and we improvised this version of Lokah in a few takes.

Binaural beats are a way of synchronizing your brain waves (which are measured in hertz) with the hertz of the binaural beat. The brain has a frequency following response which causes this to occur. This works best with headphones and is useful for meditation or relaxation. In this case I created three binaural beats. Each section is 10 minutes long and the beginnings are marked with the hits of the singing bowl. The tone is C 256 hz.

This track features Jenn Cornell playing the cello. (http://montanaskiesmusic.com) Jenn's cello composition was inspired by the Indian flute virtuoso, Hariprasad Chaurasia and a sonata of J.S. Bach. (specifically, the second mov't of sonata in Gm for cello and piano.)  The inspiration came together after we both went to hear the amazing Kirtan group Shantala, who further inspired us both with their indian classical instruments. Good Morning, Meditation (Binaural Beats 6hz, 8hz and 10hz)

New album coming in Jan. 2020. This piece is an improvisation on a looped phrase. This is also accompanied by a Tibetan (Himalayan) singing bowl in 936 tuning (234) as well as gong and percussion. The repetitive nature of the accompaniment supports the improvisatory melody.  Ajna is the sanskrit name for the third eye Chakra. The third eye chakra is considered by some to be the pineal gland. The pineal regulates our circadian rhythms and produces melatonin, as well as other chemicals.  It is theorized that the pineal may also produce the psychedelic chemical “DMT”, which may be responsible for mystical states. In addition to being produced naturally, DMT is also found in the Amazonian psychedelic brew “Ayahuasca”.  Studies have shown that music therapy can also stimulate melatonin production.

Ajna (Meditation For Classical Guitar)

Be the Love you Seek is a fusion of musical expression with elements of sound therapy to assist in guiding the listener towards relaxation.  Instruments include Classical Guitar, Tibetan (Himalayan) Singing Bowls, Gong, Percussion and Native American Flute. (432hz and 936hz tunings)

Tracks 1 - 7 are musically based featuring classical guitar and Tibetan Singing Bowls.  Tracks 3, 4, 5, and 7 share the same tonal center (B) in the tuning of 936hz (third eye chakra).  Tracks 8 - 11 move towards a sound therapy based approach, culminating with a guided meditation in the final track.

Several of the tracks here will also be released as singles at a later date with an additional “breath guidance” option. The breath guidance option is for the listener to follow a sequence of rhythmically guided breath (with the music). This practice is designed to assist the listener in activating the parasympathetic nervous for deeper states of relaxation as well as meditative brainwave states.

This is a recording of a set of singing bowls.  The root bowl is C#, the Aum tone or Earth tone.  The other bowls are harmonized with the Chakras in this scale.

These types of singing bowls have been used since ancient times in meditations and healing work.  They are traditionally made with 7 metals representing the 7 planets that the tibetan monks were aware of at the time.  The bowls produce monaural beats and harmonic overtones that affect body and mind on a deep level.  The bowl set here is based on the Earth tone.  This is also known as "Om" and is the calculated sound signature of the Earth as it travels around the sun. In Indian music this is also called the Sadja. The corresponding bowls were matched according to the Chakra system in Ayurvedic medicine.  This also corresponds roughly with the western major scale.

Native American Flute #2 with Tibetan Singing Bowls (2hz Binaural Beat)

Sound has the power to heal.   As a musician I had always thought of music as art, and a way to entertain, but I have now started to look at music and sound in a new light. 

During an experience with extreme anxiety, I found music to be a valuable tool for helping me to work through it. Later, in order to understand more about what was going on with me (and to prove to myself that I wasn't completely insane), I started to read more about psychology and neuroscience and spirituality and anything that related to the "inner world" that I had re-discovered. Through this experience, I discovered the powerful value of music (frequency, sound and rhythm).  I was always attracted to the mysterious nature of music and sound, but now I see it's potential as a healing force and something that can be helpful for other people. In the process have also learned a lot about different mental states (states of consciousness) and how sound and frequency can help me to access and focus my mind in these states. 

Music is the study and artful use of frequencies, but in essence our whole world is frequency. Science acknowledges that everything is vibrating, from solid matter and our brainwaves down to the activity of the smallest particles we know of. The world we live in is a world of vibration. A world of music!

So, this is what has inspired me to start this SoundCloud page.  I have been working on music and sounds (mainly recording nature sounds, so far) not only for my own self therapy, but also to share with family and friends that had told me that they were dealing with similar issues (or just wanted music for meditation or for relaxing.) This is still an exploration for me and I hope you'll find this helpful in your life.
