had no idea there was a "modern breakbeat hardcore / jungle scene". thoroughly enjoyed this and want more!

On July 1st 2021 my good friend Vali NME Click is dropping the pre-orders for the epic 'Message from the Parazone' on @parallaxrecordings, a monster four disc album featuring the best and brightest artists from the modern breakbeat hardcore / jungle scene. To celebrate this momentous event, Vali asked me to put together a retrospective of the label so far, so I've come up with this mix, which picks out at least one track from each of the releases so far, covering both the old skool re-releases as well as the new skool exclusives. Enjoy!

Recently i played the warm up set for Repertoire at their Discworld takeover. I spent ages picking the tunes out to avoid lugging millions of records around. This is a selection from what i took down there.

The first 4 or 5 tunes match what i played on the day but i couldn't remember the exact track list so went off piste from there.

Infinite Sequence startet mit einem Mix des Dresdners COMMON MOB aka Arthur in die Herbstsaison! Musik begleitet ihn schon seit seiner Kindheit im Erzgebirge - egal ob von Bands oder aus dem elektronischen Spektrum. In seiner Heimat Oberpöbel gibt es den Turbojugend Verein, der bereits seit 2006 Konzerte und Techno Parties auf die Beine stellt. Kein Wunder, dass Arthur schnell Mitglied wurde. Als 16-jähriger Grashüpfer kam er dann zum ersten mal mit Freetekks und Soundsystemkultur in Berührung. Die ersten DJ Gigs und eigene Parties ließen dann nicht lange auf sich warten.


Heute ist COMMON MOB neben der Turbojugend auch in der Pamb Sound Crew ansässig. Die Pambas, so nennen wir sie jetzt einfach mal, haben ein eigenes Soundsystem und organisieren Parties, dieses Jahr zum Beispiel die Subkontra, gemeinsam mit den Crews Yadira und TBA Soundsystem.

Der Sound von COMMON MOB hat seine Wurzeln im Bereich Raggatek und Acidcore, mittlerweile definiert er seine Musik aber eher offen: Bassmusik. Kommt uns als Infinite Sequence natürlich sehr gelegen. Fuck the Schubladensystem!
Eingespielt hat er sich heute vor allem auf Dubstep, Grime, Trap und technoide Breaks. Wobbeln muss es halt irgendwie. Der Mix driftet immer wieder in eine apokalyptische Klangkulisse ab, aber bietet ebenso schöne Stellen zum Runterkommen, ja fast zum meditieren einladend. From deep to Gedudel - alles dabei! 

Neben dem Auflegen hat er auch mit zwei Freunden das Musikprojekt RESTLESS STEPPAS gegründet, das auf 140BPM Bassmusik aufbaut und diese mit live Vocals und Trompete verfeinert. Wir halten da mal die Ohren offen und freuen uns auf die Zukunftsklänge.

For this episode of the Telekom Electronic Beats podcast we turn our focus towards two driving forces in the contemporary UK Drum & Bass scene, namely DJ Flight and Mantra. 
DJ Flight is widely recognised as a pioneering artist in the D&B scene and was the first woman to host a radio show focused on the genre with the The Next Chapter on BBC Radio 1Xtra. On top of this she’s held down residencies at Metalheadz and Swerve, collaborated with Breakage and Redeyes and runs her own label Play:Musik. Mantra, alongside partner Double O, also found her way into the spotlight through her highly acclaimed Rupture events which over the past 12 years has welcomed the likes of D-Bridge and Doc Scott amongst many others, the club nights accompanying label has also released material from Forest Drive West, Coco Bryce and more and Mantra’s own productions have garnered widespread support from many leading figures in the field. 
Throughout the podcast our host Lindi Delight discussed the pair’s EQ50 initiative which endeavours to bring a more equal representation within the genre, while also offering mentorship for women and non-binary people. The three also discuss the history of Drum & Bass, Tokenism and how everyone in the industry can help bring more balance and diversity to the electronic music scene in general.
