Biog:

The Maghreban is an outsider. He doesn't really know much about house music at all. Growing up just outside London, around 1990, his brother got him into some of the old hardcore. He still has a few old pirate radio cassettes from that time. He got into drum and bass and hip hop and forgot about dance music entirely. He made some records in some other genres. He bought records in lots of genres - Jazz, Film Soundtracks, World Music, Ska. He gradually became more open minded and started working at some house music. Perhaps this left field approach gives him a fresh perspective on it.

Sonic Explorations #003:  Facta

Solid Steel in association with Serato (11th September) In Hour 2 it's Dolenz, the latest alias from Neil Andrew (fka DJ Solo and Wriggly Scott), who just released his debut beat tape, Hysteresis, on Sonic Router Records at the end of last month. The 8 track EP manages to express and navigate the London based producer’s hybrid of heavy hip hop drum work, saturation soaked samples and analog production techniques.
 In the artists’ own words: “at its core this mix is an expansion on my recent Hysteresis EP’s concept: with me exploring and documenting all of the musical influences that have shaped my sound. In addition the mix is layered with segments of a film version of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, in which the author predicts states of future dictatorship, extensive human cloning techniques and depleting fuel reserves.”

As someone we've been wanting get in for a very long time, we're thrilled to be sharing a new mix from A Made Up Sound for our Truancy Volume series. Featuring a ton of unreleased and forthcoming music from fellow producers such as Minor Science, Peverelist and Anthony Naples, our 130th Truancy Volume clocks in at 25 tracks for an hour an a half session. On the mix, Dave himself says: "It's a bit of a slow burner. When I record a mix at home or play on radio I enjoy using the opportunity to start at lower tempos and draw for tracks that I don't usually get around to playing on a club night at peak time, then gradually increase the pace from there. There's some new and recent things I like, along with quite a few older favorites I rediscovered going through my record shelves with this mix in mind and wanted to show to people who may not have heard them the first time around. I didn't go for a particular theme or anything, but listening back I noticed the mix keeps going back and forth between dark and light, and between dense and breathing. So I guess contrast is the name of the game."

Truancy Volume 130: A Made Up Sound

The fifth release to complete the NLV Records sampler comes from Strict Face, Adelaide's very own grime rep. Breaking ground for grime in Australia, Strict Face is on a whole other level with his instrumental masterpiece, Rouge Park.

A refreshing new artist from Adelaide, Strict Face is one to keep an eye on. Combining aspects from the UK garage scene, synth-pop and R&B, ‘Rogue Park’, is an exciting new addition to the NLV Sampler. Seamlessly incorporating heavy grime bass lines with a more relaxed R&B beat, ‘Rogue Park’ features an intense pulsating sub-bass, accompanied perfectly by a transcendent wiry synth that plays a catchy riff guaranteed to stick in your head. A perfect example of genre defying underground music, ‘Rogue Park’ is ideal for any setting, from unwinding at home, to the much-needed rest in heavy grime sets.
