After the sage – accompanied by his trusted guide owl – sneaked stealthily into the forest, he sensed an unusually serene energy.  The animals were not shy at all, and when he noticed that many of them were moving slowly into one particular direction, he decided to follow this unusual procession until it ground to a halt while all the animals looked into the distance.  The sage looked into the same direction and what he saw left him completely petrified.  In a nearby clearing he saw a young girl – maybe still in her teens - with very long brown hair and an immaculately white dress frolic with some wolves.  The sage didn’t know whether to hide or flee, but when he saw all the forest dwellers around him watching this spectacle in a relaxed mood, he concluded it was OK to keep on observing this mystery girl while staying out of sight in order not to disturb her.
The sage wasn’t sure whether this girl was a fairy or maybe a witch, but she obviously wasn’t an ordinary human being.  After a few minutes, the little girl started collecting some firewood.  The nearby animals immediately started to help her, with a couple of magpies flying in some twigs while two wolves and a few squirrels swiftly collected some pieces of wood and laid it at the feet of the young witch.  With all this help, it only took a few minutes before a small pile of firewood was lying in front of the barefoot girl.  After indicating that there was enough wood now, she took a small cauldron and filled it with some fresh water from a nearby stream.  She also picked a selection of herbs and mushrooms and when all the ingredients had been gathered, she put the cauldron on the fireplace and with an elegant hand movement, she lighted a floating spark which gently found its way to the firewood and set it ablaze.  The sage was dumbfounded by this magic spectacle, and so was his guide owl who sat on his shoulder all the time.  With calm and unhurried movements, the girl put all the ingredients into the cauldron and gently stirred the brew.  Meanwhile the sage asked himself how the dress of this barefoot forest girl could be so immaculately white.  After about half an hour, the brew seemed to be ready and the witch took the cauldron away from the fire to let it cool down.  Meanwhile, she sat down on an old log and stretched out her arm, and within seconds a beautiful white owl landed on her hand.  Her smile was pleasant and warm, yet the sage sensed that it would not be a good idea to disturb this young witch.  A few minutes later, the white owl flew away while the sage sensed that his trusted guide owl started to become restless until all of a sudden the bird flew up from his shoulder and headed straight towards the girl, who was pleasantly surprised when the owl landed on her hand.  She immediately noticed that this bird belonged to an exotic species she had never seen before and she observed the wonderful creature with great curiosity.  The witch spoke some soft words to the little owl and looked at him with a radiant smile.  She knew perfectly how to handle little owls, and soon the bird was lying on his back in the palm of her hand with his wings spread open, while the girl gave him a playful massage on his belly, which pleased the little owl so much that he closed his eyes.  The sage couldn’t believe it.  His guide owl was his inseparable companion for the last 2 years, yet he had never allowed him to cuddle him in the way the witch was doing.  It was a moment of pure magic.  After a couple of minutes, the girl put the bird on his feet again and gave him a tender little kiss, after which the owl seemed to wake up from his state of blissful hypnosis and flew back to the sage, who quickly ducked behind a bush so that witch wouldn’t spot him…

Sonne, Strand und Meer Guest Mix #61 by Moritz Hofbauer

Born in 1998, Moritz Hofbauer grew up in Pforzheim, southern Germany. He came in touch with music at an early age, playing cello in the local orchestra or keyboard in a band. His curiosity drove him to combine this love for music with computers, DAW and electronic synthesizers. He began to complement his piano compositions with electronic beats and his passion for Deep House and Melodic Techno evolved quickly.
By the age of 15, Moritz was taking his first bookings and spending nights in the DJ booth of local clubs. Over the next years he steadily established himself within the German clubbing scene and played in cities including Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Munich and Berlin. His venues included well-known clubs like Harry Klein and Gotec as well as festivals such as the Isle Of Summer.
The age of this emerging artist raised no shortage of hurdles. More than once was young Moritz barred from entry from the very stages he was booked to perform on. His plea that “I will be playing here in a second” rarely moved bouncers and the event organizer routinely had to exit the venue and pick him up at the door.
With his release “In Between“ on Jeudi Records in 2015, Moritz set a first milestone in his budding career. Several remixes for artists such as Township Rebellion, Ben Böhmer and Nils Hoffmann followed on labels including Moonbootique and Dear Deer Records. A further EP was released on the Get-Physical Sublabel Poesie Musik. These music productions drew mounting public attention and entered the sets of artists including Dirty Doering, Adana Twins, Marcus Meinhardt and Aka Aka.
Moritz has since hit stages in Berlin and other global music scenes with his deep infectious melancholy-tinged tunes of fleeting delight. He follows his vision of a unique sound that bridges melody, art and club fever, continuously searching for new pigments to add to his musical palette.
