Renaissance present a very exciting project, that sees revered duo, Frankey & Sandrino take on the unmistakable vocal of Nadia Ali. 

F&S need little introduction, they're renowned for impeccable curation, both on their label (Sum Over Histories) and in their DJ sets and, as is proof positive here, a refined studio technique that's seen them release on the world's best labels, not least, Innervisions, Diynamic, Keinemusik, Crosstown, Watergate (plus more)... Few can claim such an enviable 'full-house' of marquee imprints. 

Nadia, meanwhile, is undoubtedly one of electronic music's most revered vocalists. Having first found fame as the voice of Iio's iconic 'Rapture', she's gone on to work with some of the scenes's biggest names and labels, creating a genre-defying portfolio of enviable scope. 

Needless to say, such pedigree sets the bar very high and 'I See You' does not disappoint. Tash's Movement Limited rounds out the month of October by welcoming Fractal Architect to the label for his debut EP. With a career that spans the better part of a decade, UK artist Daniel Watts aka Fractal Architect has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of electronic music, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Evolving easily through its club-friendly character, a sub-bassline syncopates tightly against the grooved backdrop before a series of light and airy melodic phrases complement each other. Cascading and entwined with interlocking threads, they juxtapose against the weight of the bass and kick. An additional series of components arrive at the breakdown courtesy of new sustained bassline and cadenced synth motif before hitting its stride once more in the third movement to devastating dancefloor effect.

Following the rhythmic narrative of its partner track, “Night Clouds” is infused with a sultry bass presence, rolling groove and shaker-infused top-line. Developing with consummate ease and intimate dancefloor knowhow, a central melody shines brightly through a meticulously assembled cast of sonic characters as it coruscates gently through the early stages in shimmering delays. Finding new direction after a pause for breath at the spine-tingling mid-section, a popping, cadenced synth line opens up post-breakdown to create a new focus in the second half before the familiar motif returns to glorious open-filtered effect in the final stages.

A power ballad about death and decay. Interpreting inevitable changes, loss and departure into John's skillful lyrics, the vocal melody conveys a deep sadness. I composed and played the song on piano and guitar both. It's hard to believe that a random collaboration paired John and me together. Later, Dirk joined as a vocalist and added plenty of drama. Thank you so much, it's always fun to collaborate with you!

I have many finger exercises that warm up my hands.I need to situate my hands so they know where the keys are without needing to watch them. I had probably been playing for at least a couple of months when I wrote this, so please forgive the tinges of adolescence in this piece. It is a solo piano piece recorded with a very inexpensive portable cassette recorder.

Manuel Cabrera II obtained his Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in Manila, Philippines under the guidance of Prof. Ruben Reyes. He later studied with acclaimed Japanese guitarist Norioh Sato and received his Master of Music Degree in Guitar under a scholarship at the Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan. He has also performed at the master classes of David Leisner, David Russel, Kazufumi Matsunaga, Josep Enriquez, and Angelito Agcaoili.

As a student, Manuel won major competitions in the Philippines and all over Japan, including 1st prize at the 1999 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (Manila, Philippines); 1st prize at the “GITARA” Competition, University of the Philippines, Diliman; 1st prize at the 31st Nippon Guitar Competition Solo Category, Osaka Japan; 2nd prize at the Classical Guitar Competition, Tokyo, Japan; and 5th prize at the 49th Tokyo International Guitar Competition.

As a performer, he had been featured at the 2004 “Filipino Artists Series” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and at the “New Artists Concert” at Elisabeth University of Music, Hiroshima. He had also been featured as a Soloist with the University of the Philippines Chamber Orchestra and with the University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra at the “Concert at the Park”, Rizal Park, Manila. He had as well performed at solo concerts in Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka, Japan and was featured as a performer at the Guitarra 2010 International Guitar Festival. Earlier this year, he held his successful solo debut concert at The Esplanade, earning him positive reviews from critics.

Manuel is also a dedicated and accomplished pedagogue. He taught at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music from 2000 to 2007. He is now based in Singapore and is actively pursuing a career in performing and teaching. He was recently honored by television network ABS-CBN by featuring him and his achievements as an internationally recognized Filipino classical guitarist at the Global Pinoy (Global Filipino) segment of its cable channel, The Filipino Channel.

My music pieces are all piano improvisations expressing emotions. It is music telling stories without the words. In my earIy years I sang and played piano in piano bars or fronted bands of different styles, from country to heavy metal and to 40. I've been composing, teaching and performing most of my life.  I'm getting old(er) now 😔 but the great thing about creating music is it gets better the longer you play, and you have more to write about! 

This is what I leave of me to my generations to come who wonder where their desire to make music comes from. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother were both accomplished pianists when they were young. My son is also exceptional.  My great grandmother and gr grandfather sang and danced in minstrel shows (vaudeville) in the early 1900's. Kids today have no idea what life was like before moving pictures.  I now have great-grandchildren. They will know who I am through my music. When I am gone my music will still be here. What a wonderful thought!
