This track popped out of nowhere; after recording an improvised kantele solo, I found a section that I decided to loop and compose over.

The kantele is a plucked instrument Which is native to Finland and has 10 strings.
The sound it emanates together with the glockenspiel creates a mysterious aura and by using the string section I could build on that feeling. In my personal opinion there is a feeling of discovery with this track; as it progresses it grows.
The comparison of the hard pluck of the kantele against the soft resonant sound of the glock is again influenced by the 'yin yang' mentality I'm in when I create these tracks.

I also made the conscious decision not to use orchestral percussion.

The spider stirs as hazy beams of warm sunlight stream through weathered panes making glitter of the dusty air.

Descending from the safety of the lofty web to explore the vast universe of the decaying Victorian home-

It ventures cautiously into the unknown with speed & stealthy stillness endeavoring to evade detection by enemy & prey.

Soon faced with a perilously wide expanse of bare wooden floor speed is its only option.

Nearing the safety of the opposite wall a fiendish cackle announces discovery by the most feared foe:  the old woman.

A frantic frenzy of sadistic stomping & striking with all at hand befalls the spider as it deftly dodges each blow on its way to the wall.

Halfway up with speed failing to elude the assailant it resorts to stillness as a rolled newspaper finds its target.

With a stifled scream the spider becomes a permanent part of the crumbling plaster wall.

 ~ 

Roused by their mother’s death cry her offspring begin to emerge from scores of spherical silken eggs to seek & avenge her fate.

Nourished by rage they grow overnight to gargantuan proportions instinctively forming bushido battalions at first light.

The sound of marching shifts her slumber from dream to drowsiness until daylight’s horrific horde makes wide her eyes.

In slippers, robe, & disbelief her retreat from revenge is soon blocked by back to wall.

Their steady advance becomes a focused fury of web spinning entombment.

With a suffocated scream the old woman becomes a permanent part of the crumbling plaster wall.

Washed gravel glittered red
To a wall, and beyond it nine
Tall limes in the old inn yard
Rose over the tall inn sign.

To the boy at the high room-window,

Project #3 - Quiet City

My apartment is in front of a small river/lake, and every summer there has been a cute couple of swans. Actually swans are monogamic, once they have chosen a partner they stay together their entire life. 

I was expecting them back this spring ... but only one of them was coming. I have seen him at all the places they always shared together, and he always seemed to look for her. But she was not coming, and I don't know what happened to her. It was so sad! 

This swan belongs to the family of "Mute Swans" (Cygnus Olor). They are completely silent during their lifetime until the moment just before death, when the swan sings one beautiful song.

In autumn the other swans prepared for their anual flight to warmer regions, but the sad swan was not with them, and hence I wondered was happened to him. 

One night in late golden october, one of those few where the summer rears up a last time, I woke up by a strange sound. I went to my balcony, the lake in silver moonlight in front of me ... with the swan in the middle. 

And than I heard it ... the most beautiful and saddest melody in the world. Obviously the swan was singing the story of his life, and it was full of melancholy, so much about missing her and the moments they shared together as a loving couple. 

This was the last time I had seen the swan. When I went back in the room I immediately tried to note down the melody I had heard, and I need to excuse that due to my inconsiderable musical abilities this song here is only a cheap imitation ... but I hope you can get at least a glance.
