ZZK Records Presents Montoya’s ‘Flor del Mar’ ft. Pahua, the second single from Montoya's upcoming album 'El Nido'. 

This is a tribute to those impossible love affairs that happen on your summer vacations, the idea of falling in love with the beauty, the context. In that tropical context that makes everything taste of salt, everything bathed in sunshine. That memory inspired me for this song, but also as a sensorial aid to get through the winter and dream about returning to that place and reliving that warm sensation. 

‘Flor del Mar’ will be released on May 24th, 2023 on ZZK Records
'El Nido' will be released on July 7th, 2023

Experimental hip-hop/jazz quartet Bokoya team up with Cologne-based producer / guitarist Gianni Brezzo (Jakarta Records) for ‘Velvet Stream’, the fourth single from their upcoming project on Melting Pot Music.

Bokoya describe themselves as a four-headed human drum machine that play impro-vised beat music. You can call it jazz if you like (all four members are graduated jazz musicians btw) but be ready to stumble over some Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient or Dub in the mix. We recommend their double-album ‘Hausensession’ (MPM 2022) as a reference point.

Gianni Brezzo's music is a bit easier to access but not less leftfield. Jazz is a major influ-ence, but it goes way further. On his album ‘Tutto Grosso’ (Jakarta, 2022), Brezzo rides a sonic wave similar to Matthew Halsall, Surprise Chef, El Michels Affair and BadBadNot-Good. 

The recording sessions took place at the Gottesweg Studios in Cologne where Bokoya and Gianni Brezzo jammed for three days and nights based on some basic sketches and beat. The sessions were edited and arranged after by Bokoya and Brezzo but no overdubs added.

Brownswood Recordings and The Steve Reid Foundation celebrate the life and spirit of one of the world’s greatest jazz drummers – Steve Reid – via a deluxe 12” featuring a brand new interpretation of the classic ‘Lions Of Judah’ by emanative & Ahmed Abdullah backed with a Four Tet re-edit. 

Steve Reid was an amazing drummer with a long and illustrious history that stretched from working with James Brown, Miles Davis and Fela Kuti through to his own Steve Reid Trio and more recently working with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). He died from throat cancer in the US in April 2010 without the money for treatment that could have saved his life. 

The Steve Reid Foundation was established by Gilles Peterson in memory of his friend. The aims of the foundation are to fundraise on behalf of struggling musicians in need of help and support. All profits from the sale of the ‘Lions Of Judah’ 12” will go to the foundation.

Upon return from a recent trip to the deepest of crates in Colombia, Cut Chemist and Beats of All-Nations sought out to remix a unique set of dusty records, each different from the last, with an equally diverse list of producers. Going Back to Cali: Cut Chemist’s Colombian Crates Remixed is MORE THAN CUMBIA, its a reflection on a tropical culture rich in spirit, creativity and passion strung together with field recordings found along the way. These records were bought in Cali, Colombia during Patronio Alvarez Festival last year, hence the name. 

Our trip begins with folklore Colombiano favorites Los Corraleros de Majagual over a crunchy boom-bap by Co. Fee from Los Angeles’ beat collective, My Hollow Drum. Dance Kill Move (Stockholm, Sweden) adds some serious low end to Los Jovenes de Hierro’s classic charanga, “Ritmo Sabroso.” Ubiquity recording artist, currently residing in Colobmia, Bosq and Yukicito of La Junta (Los Angeles) contribute absolute party starters, while El Dusty’s “Mi Chola” give Los Teen Agers a taste Corpus Christi, TX. Atropolis (Queens) pays homage with a heavy stripped down edit of Julio y su Combo’s “Lamento Cumbiambero” and Los Chicos Altos (Barcelona) add in some rub-a-dub flavor on Los Hermanos Tuiran’s “Lluvia.” In addition we explore national treasures and the lesser known, new styles of chirimía, porro, pachanga, salsa and cumbia as interpreted by Sumohair (Los Angeles), Gabe Real (Pomona CA) and Greece duo SUPERSAN (aka Panama Cardoon & Mister Centro).
