Danish artist Jesper Ryom unveils his debut album No Place in Particular, a work that encapsulates his unique musical journey. Caravan’s Coarsica EP is a gorgeous six-tracker of wandering drum machines and shiny synths, washed with the burnt umbers and viridescent hues of the Australian outback. Computer-funk with a green thumb. As the track-listing suggests, Coarsica is a tribute to subtle and compelling beauty of Australia’s native flora, as if Costa Georgiadis and Dâm-Funk got away from the big smoke for a weekend and spent the whole time by the river cooking this bad boy up. Like rugged and stoic Banksia, or the regal Flindersia, each track on the Coarsica EP provides a dappled shade under which the weary dancer can rest in these hot summer months.

Cap’tain Créole - formerly known as Trenchtown Meditation - was a band formed in 1984 by Clément, José, Jean-Pierre and Serge. 
Cap’tain Créole was a pioneering creole-speaking French reggae band with the aim of exploring new musical horizons. With the help of 3 new members – among them a sax player and a trumpet player, both coming from the jazz scene, who helped define their new sound - the band used with great impact some subtle electronic elements. 
Cap’tain Créole recorded their unique outing called Ni Bel Jounin. A single composed of 2 titles Fré Moin / Ni Bel Jounin, both sung in creole.
Both tracks are at the crossroads of many universes: Afro, Rock, Funk, Reggae. The result is quite unique and foremost, the spiritual vibe that oozes from the record is an obvious marker of their reggae roots.

The final LP in our LP Subscription Series is the killer Space Cats LP - Something New -  a different take on disco that was stripped-down, raw, rugged and inspired by afro-rock groups like Harari and Hedzoleh Soundz. 

After the phenomenal response to our previous survey of disco and boogie sounds from early eighties South Africa, we decided to wade a bit deeper into the pool to focus on one of the most compelling acts to emerge from that theater, the Space Cats.

Hailing from the small, insular music scene in the coal-mining city of Witbank, the Space Cats were a five-man band fronted by singer/bassist Themba “T’Rex” Mzwakali and singer/guitarist Santy Dladala. Operating as a semi-professional live combo rather than a studio-driven aggregation, they stood out from the slick, highly polished conventions of the day.
