From the depths comes this gripping new collection of stories from Paris-based producer Davka, and Mexico City-based Leon Lobato. 

On the title track, De Profundis, the pair fuse pulsing bass kicks with electrifying hand drums to underpin ethereal vocals and melancholic synth notes. The result is a thumping journey of sound, textured and layered with hidden gems throughout each of its nearly 8-minute run time.

The inspiration for the track is Oscar Wilde’s letter to an old acquaintance, written from prison. The first half of the correspondence recalls the heyday of their extravagant lifestyles — parties, dinners, hotels. The second half documents Wilde’s discovery of his own spirituality whilst in prison as a direct result of the excesses of his former life.

If Davka and Lobato’s opener De Profundis is the regret-tinged peak of an opulent and indulgent life, then Calm is the exploration of a softer, more introspective side of life.

Pumping drums give way to lighter kicks, kissed by piano flourishes and beautiful synthetic melodies. Calm is, as the name suggests, a peaceful, hypnotic ride that is packed with depth and feeling.

It leads to the EP’s closer, Le Chant De L’Eau, a track that pushes the project in to uncharted territory. The hand drums and thicker beats of ‘De Profundis’ return, but this time they are layered over enchanting melodies and the sound of a single drop of water, playing on a loop.

The track is a perfect finish to the project: sweet, alluring, and very rhythmic, intertwining all of the themes that Davka and Lobato explore on the first two tracks of the EP.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the project comes with a package of remixes from Greg Nairo, Cocho, and George X, who each apply their signature sound to the work already done by Davka and Lobato, taking the cuts in brand new, unforeseen directions.

An artist with a cast-iron reputation within the underground dance fraternity, GMJ continues to chart a stratospheric upwards trajectory with an ever-growing production portfolio. Now returning to Proton Music, the Australian star presents a pair of new tracks through his "Rise Above" EP.

A Particles and Proton Music veteran with a stellar cast of original and remix material over both labels, Gavin Griffin continues to provide the flagship imprint with a regular supply of increasingly high-quality music that saw "Sovereign Reality" and "Catharsis" released in October 2017 and May 2019. Now returning with his third solo original EP, the title track is a typically sumptuous offering that is characterised by a head-shaking groove and expertly crafted bassline that evolves imperceptibly over time. Through a panoply of white-noise effects, multi-layered pads and subtle synth phrasing, "Rise Above" reaches a rousing denouement with spine-tingling moments expertly placed throughout. Continuing the atmospheric narrative of its predecessor, "Unbound Reality" finds free-flowing melodies meandering across its 7-minute voyage alongside intermittent vocal sample. Wrapped delicately around a crisp rhythmic shell, syncopated motifs and powerful beat are the perfect juxtaposition to the unencumbered melody.

Another Proton regular sees Simos Tagias return to the label after a remix of LADS in January 2021. Responsible for 2017's "Airlock" and 2018's "Audacity", the Greek producer has also presided over a clutch of high-profile remixes for the likes of Tim Penner and Soulwerk, while also being remixed by such esteemed names as James Monro and Petar Dundov. Once again hitting new heights, the Simos Tagias remix of "Rise Above" is a bold, pulsating affair that uses the themes central to GMJ's original and reframes them within a powerful new rhythmic framework. Using organic house inspired vocal phrasing, new melodies appear at the stripped-back breakdown before a refined arpeggiated sequence gives shifts aural focus in the second half.

A veteran of the underground dance scene, Savvas is another artist with a long-established connection with electronic music. After a 2011 debut for Bellboy Records, Savvas has found himself featuring on Sag & Tre, Magician On Duty and Anjunadeep. The "Mindfulness" EP was a notable Particles highlight in early 2019 while a remix of Rick Pier O'Neil's "Earth Mover" in July 2017 and a full debut EP to follow, mark an impressive emergence on Proton Music. Reworking "Unbound Reality", the wandering melodic lines of the original are complemented by a glittering arpeggiated sequence, revealed in the second movement, and extending into the beatless breakdown. Additional melodic phrases from the Savvas studio lilt delicately in the second half accompanied in seamless fashion with GMJ original components. The resultant sonic tapestry is a joy to behold.

Creating a new twin-track offering of unparalleled pedigree with contributions from Simos Tagias and Savvas, GMJ continues to "Rise Above" with impressive regularity.

Madraas kick-off 2022 with a sublime new single on Kindisch that comes with remixes from RIGOONI and David Orin. 

Riccardo and Marco are Madraas, a pair of house craftsmen at home on connoisseur labels like All Day I Dream and The Soundgarden. They have a melodic, enchanting sound that gets your head amongst the clouds and your feet tapping. Here they offer the seductive 'Where The Shadow Ends,' which has a slinky house rhythm that is invitingly loose. The weighty kick drums are peppered with toms and dreamy synths bring a luxurious and spaced-out feel. It makes for a classy deep house roller. 

RIGOONI hails from Brazil and brings with him a rich array of influences. He has released on the iconic Balance Music and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, and now comes through with a richly organic remix. It is more driving than the original, with slick tech drums powering it along under balmy, far-sighted chords that get you in a reverie. 

New Yorker David Orin is a foundational figure in his native scene who blends rhythmic percussion and intricate melody. He is part of the All Day I Dream roster and serves up a hypnotic remix here. It is perfectly airy and zoned out, with smooth grooves and sustained chords bringing plenty of warmth and soul. 

‘Where The Shadow Ends’ is another perfectly absorbing and musical package of deep house from Kindisch.
