Mollono.Bass & Friends - Part One

Mollono.Bass tanzt in vielerlei Hinsicht aus der Reihe. Er schielt kaum auf aktuelle Trends, nutzt ungeniert alle Mittel der Klangerzeugung und schlägt so einen eindrucksvollen Spagat zwischen Tanzbarkeit und Tiefgang. Aber da ist noch etwas, das in seinen organischen Grooves mitschwingt und ihnen Leben einhaucht: Freundschaft. Die ist auf der ersten von insgesamt drei Auskopplungen zu seinem neuen Album nicht zu überhören. Die Freundschaft zu Seth Schwarz kommt in dessen virtuosem Violinspiel zum Ausdruck. Zusammen mit den dubbigen Beats und warmen Klangfarben von Mollono.Bass entsteht hier fließende Eleganz von geradezu symphonischem Ausmaß. Wunderbar harmonisch fügen sich auch die Gitarrenakkorde von Jörg Schwenzer zwischen die treibenden Rhythmen. Schon seit vielen Jahren ist der Tontechniker ein guter Freund – nun brechen die vielen Jam-Sessions, die in dieser Zeit stattgefunden haben, mit jazziger Vermschmitztheit zur Tanzfläche durch.

Mollono.Bass steps out of line. He doesn’t really care about recent trends, freely employs all mediums of sound creation, and creates a well-balanced mix of dancefloor thrust and intelligent deepness by doing so. Still there is more to his music, a very special vibe between the frequencies of his organic grooves: Friendship. It serves as the backbone for this lead-off single from his new album, the first of altogether three. The friendship with Seth Schwarz finds expression through his virtuous violin play. Together with the dubby beats and warm harmonies of Mollono.Bass it creates a flowing elegance of truly symphonic dimensions. The guitar chords of Jörg Schwenzer fit into the driving rhythms just as perfect. This sound engineer is another long-year friend – countless mutual jam sessions now finally hit the dancefloor, creating a rousing atmosphere of jazzy mischief.

During DGTL Festival 2014 the founder of Stil Vor Talent, Oliver Koletzki will be laying down his deeply melodic sound that has made its mark on the global dance scene for the better part of the last decade. 'I am O.K.' reads the title of Koletzki's upcoming album. In 2014, after 26 years as a musician, he clearly achieved what he set out to do. In the spring his new album drops, he's touring the US, and then he’ll be moving the studio and office to Berlin's Holzmarkt. Hypothetically he could have a bit of a rest, but he wouldn't think of it, cause he's having way too much fun.

RELEASE DESCRIPTION

The 30th release on Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital finds the label presenting a brand new collaborative project. Lonya and Mike Griego are both quite accomplished in their respective production careers. 2014 appearances on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music have been highlights and the end result of their first studio effort 'Acid Culture' looks to be one of this year's most intriguing singles. 

A dramatic intro sets the stage with a punchy groove, vivid vocal gates, and a nice complement of trippy electronics.  As the hallucinatory vibes form a well-carved foundation, crisp percussion and strong hypnotic tempos lead the track into its second act. Here a more distinct theme is unleashed with enticing tones and phasing rhythms uniting for strong hedonic hooks. It results in a tasteful and sonically satisfying production from Lonya and Mike Griego that you're bound to be hearing a lot in the coming months. 

The first remix of 'Acid Culture' is supplied by Roger Martinez who is returning to Perspectives for his second appearance. The Dutch producer's 'My World' single was a standout on the label earlier this year and additional offerings on Sudbeat and GEM Records have been equally enticing.  For his 'Acid Culture' interpretation, Roger has given the piece his own unique twist.  Reshaped elements from the original have been transformed into highly infectious, rhythmic hooks, and the tough, techy framework is undeniably groovy.  Another meticulously produced piece of music from Roger that is sure to be one of his most sought after remix productions this year.

The second and final remix is provided by Tim Penner who is making his first appearance on Perspectives. A regular in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, the Canadian producer has had a strong year production-wise with appearances on Sudbeat and Movement Recordings.  Also quite accomplished as a DJ, Tim has shared the stage with Eric Prydz, Guy J, Henry Saiz and many other top international talents.  For his 'Acid Culture' interpretation, Tim has provided a techno inspired rendition that complements the original very well. Fueled by a percussive groove, ultrasonic design, and tension-filled main break, this is a production that's sure to be thrilling for the peak-time slots. It rounds out another on-the-money release for Perspectives Digital in fine style.

2014 saw Steyoyoke Recordings put the finishing touches to their artist roster and the label is now experiencing an ongoing creative continuum, bringing Steyoyoke to its current state of musical solidarity. ‘Family Affair Vol.04’ is a testament to this, as it provokes new inspiring ways for the artists to inspire and influence each other. Split across two separate releases, Part 1 and Part 2, “Family Affair Vol.04’ comprises of 9 remixes, which sees all the Steyoyoke artists adding their own personal flavours to some of 2014’s biggest tracks.

Part 2.
Aki Bergen extends his skills to bring you the first track of Part 2. He remixes Soul Button’s ‘Swift Minds’ and delivers a rigorous yet minimal interpretation, that is unwavering and carries a strong hypnotic undertone. 
Track 2 is from Animal Picnic, with their remix of Ran Salman’s ‘Fractured Memories’. The duo embellished it with stunning key changes and a haunting breakdown, indulging you with great passion and warmth.
MPathy puts his spin on things with a remix of Animal Picnic & Aaryon’s ‘Kymera’. He keeps things simple and stripes it back, emphasising the tracks more percussive components. MPathy also elects to remove the vocals present in the original.
The final track is from BLANCAh, with her rendition of Aki Bergen’s ‘Serpentine’. Sticking to the originals essence and vibe, this remix is infatuating and intoxicating. It amplifies elegant beauty and coaxes plenty of good vibes.

Part 1.
Soul Button’s remix of ‘First Glimpse’ by Aki Bergen is the curtain raiser. Possessing a little more energy than the original, this remix boasts an alluring new intensity and vibe. It is captivating and uplifting.
Next up, is Aaryon’s remix of Soul Button & Talul’s ‘Chasing Thoughts’. Building upon the intricate layers already existing within the original, Aaryon intertwines edgier synth flurries and a more sinister bass line.
‘Hydra’ by Animal Picnic is remixed by Nick Devon, who chooses to focus on the originals unyielding drive. Nick really draws out the true ruthlessness of this track, with techno influences infiltrating this remix from start to finish.
Dahu takes on the remix of Aki Bergen’s ‘Helix’ and he customises it with some menacing elements. He does however maintain the originals “raw minimal techno groove” and garnishes this with industrial style accents.
The final track on Part 1 is Ran Salman’s version of ‘7th Heaven’ by Soul Button. Opting for a slightly punchier sound, Ran enlivens his remix by incorporating a few extra synth riffs and a bouncer bass line.

Gone is the pop-angle, replaced by a dark sound-aesthetic and raw energy. But even here, in the Techno realm, Oliver Koletzki demonstrates his inimitable sense for melody: thus, the gloomy and driving framework of 'Iyewaye' is lit up by a crystal-clear synth-sequence. Similarly, 'Ipuza', which hypnotizes by way of reduction and repetition, is funky in its core thanks to a rolling tribal groove. Functional, but with heart and soul.

When people think of European house it is easy to let your mind drift to the beaches of Ibiza or glitzy clubs on the Champs-Élysées and whilst we love spending time on the White Isle and the French capital, for us when we think house, we think Hamburg. So for todays's exclusive premiere we taken a trip to West Germany to share the lead cut from Doctor Dru's latest EP for his inimitable Jeudi imprint.

Returning to his Hamburg outpost for 2015, 'The Grain' EP serves as a firm signal intent for the rest of the year and beyond offering up two cuts aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Set to arrive July 1st we're sure you'll be hearing plenty of both of these numbers during peak hours upon their release. Until then, you can stream the EPs opening track 'The Grain' now. Enjoy.


Doctor Dru - The Grain

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

Once again tracks from the latest Argy & Mama album have been blessed by the hands of talented remixers from very different camps. This time Alan Fitzpatrick, Rampa and Mike Starr are stepping up with their contributions. Techno long runner Alan Fitzpatrick injects a good dose of dark magic to Without Me. You can't resist the beats. Vocals and synths float through the rooms. Reverb-whipped sounds keep you moving on and on. In his version of This Is Your Beat Mike Starr sets on the profound interaction of voice, rhythm and fragments of a melody. Skillfully creating his very own funk. And For Who Am I Rampa builds up a laid-back and relentlessly increasing mood. The dancers inside and outside will surely enjoy it.

Argy & MAMA - Who Am I (Rampa Remix) - BPitch Control

Whether he's a well-known producer working incognito or a new face in the scene, Echoes Of October makes every effort to unite genres in his melodic techno tracks. Mind The Black Moon is his first release on Ardor and it features two solo productions, a collaboration and a remix, all four delivering a euphoric sensation. The release is an innovated collection of emotional sounds that's not tethered to any specific style. 

The A-Side opener 'Black Moon' floats cosmic arpeggios over a polished bassline, followed by dark synth-sirens and a hypnotic delayed vocal loop. The second solo 'Confusion' sounds like it's been taken out of a deep freeze, with crisp, piercing details. It builds up on a rolling synth line into a mystic spoken vocal before things take an uprising turn ending in a main theme melody like a chainsaw. 

Hotflush Recordings and Life And Death rostered artist Locked Groove's remix of 'Confusion' transforms many of the original elements into another sphere. Delayed bells and hats, a driving drummed bassline, additional soft strings and vocals will lead into losing yourself and drift away. 

Last but not least, 'Perseo' completes this release with the collaboration of the Italian-based talent and Be Free label head honcho Jäger. The deepest thread on this EP glides along in airy percussive chugs and rides on endless arpeggio variations. The stretched arc of suspense finds its finale with a non-expected deep toned piano stab.

For my new EP on Traum I've done a couple of collaborative tracks with Nicolas Bougaieff (one of the founders of Liine). Nick had some great melodic ideas and a nice operator patch which we used to build two tracks around. This first one, Ellipse, has lots of shuffle and a simple groove to focus attention on the meandering riff at forefront. Based in Berlin but originally from Italy, Soul Button has undoubtedly made a distinctive mark on the Melodic Techno scene, starting his personal project in 2012 along with the launch of his label and brand, Steyoyoke Recordings. As the inventor and trademark owner of the Ethereal Techno subgenre, his artist name, Soul Button, reflects a strong conceptual identity.

Soul Button transformed his label into a real brand, first establishing the two sub-labels Steyoyoke Black and Inner Symphony, and later developing his own clothing brand, SYYK Berlin, as well as his own publishing company, SYYK Publishing. Well known in the electronic music scene as one of the most skilled DJs and producers, for his mental and soulful sets and tracks, Soul Button has affirmed his international exposure.

His career took off with many successful singles like "Swift Minds" and "Wraith", the latter featuring acclaimed American vocalist Terry Grant. Tracks like "Reverie" and "Metamorphosis" were a great anticipation of his first album, released in December 2019, "Phantom Existence", a 13-original track album that marked a significant moment in his career, followed by a remix edition in April 2020.

Recent years have seen continued success with the release of the "Pantheon" EP alongside Monarke, and singles such as "God Save The Rave", "Crescendo", "Merine", "Infinitude", and "Dalliance", capturing the attention of techno enthusiasts worldwide. His latest work includes "Walking Straight Up", a single that highlights his ascent in 2023, together with the collection, "Dual Realms of Sound", which was a testament to Soul Button's evolving sound and his ability to capture the duality of rhythm and melody, further solidifying his place in the techno realm. 2024 sees his second official album "Master Minds", which will be launched in April 2024, with preceding singles "Lumina" and "Tartribe".

Having cemented himself firmly in the scene, Soul Button maintains focus on the continuous growth and development of his labels as well as his own personal career. The upcoming years will surely be busy with new tours and projects on the horizon.
