What do the artists listen when they are in the mood? This month UK native-Germany based DJ, producer and Plastik Park label manager Sally Doolally (played at Boom 2002 and 2006) lets it all hang out because of Mindtsream 04, the Boom Radio Podcast…

When I’m happy I listen to:
“Anything which I am currently into, it could be something forthcoming on Plastik Park or something fresh from the studio, basically anything which makes me tap my toes”.

When I’m angry I listen to:
“Silence! I am someone who needs to take quiet time to turn that emotion around, as quickly as possible”.

When I’m relaxing I listen to:
“The sound track from ‘Berlin’s Calling’ is one CD which I am really digging at the moment, its great for just kicking back and relaxing to. I also quite like a CD which came free with Groove magazine a couple of months ago and it keeps finding itself in the player. These days I also find myself listening to children music with my son, because if he is relaxed I am relaxed too”.

When I’m about to go out I listen to:
“New music which I am about to play that night, or maybe a mix from Goetz, my husband, he is always doing new mixes and I love his groovy trippy style which he plays, it always gets me in the right mood for a party”.

When I’m about to go to sleep:
“I don’ listen to music to fall asleep, I can’t switch off if there is music playing. I find myself listening to it, so it kind of defeats the object”.

When I need to put my son asleep I listen to:
“’Floatation’, its a pretty old one by now, like from 2004 or something, on Interchill Records, but it has stood the test of time and without any doubt, it works like magic on him”.

When I’m checking the emails:
“I usually listen to new music which is sitting on my desktop and has yet to get onto CD. I pile up folders and folders of it and sometimes it takes me way to long to get through it all, so there is always something there”.

When I need to be inspired I listen to:
“Whatever are my favourite tracks of the moment. Fiord’s remix of Pesadilla-Hermosa has really blown me away recently, these guys are doing such good stuff these days, in fact I have always been huge fans of them, also as Antix, very inspirational indeed”.

When I’m cooking I listen to:
“I often listen to a mix running, usually something from Goetz, I am his biggest fan. But at the moment I also like a mixed CD from Kaiser Souzai on CLM, its really groovy stuff and very easy to listen to in the background”.

Finally, what was the main approach you had to this mix? 
This mix is a taste of the music which I am playing at the moment. It’s maybe a bit harder and techy than some of my Boom audience might know me for, but it’s pretty pumping party music and its what gets me moving these days. As I don’t record my mixes very often, I thought I might as well do something which is current to what I am playing out right now.

I am really happy to give away my this years "Christmas Mix" (Number 05). This time I decided to record my DJ Mix in a Club in Germany (Augsburg) called "Kesselhaus" which I really love. Based in Berlin but originally from Italy, Soul Button has undoubtedly made a distinctive mark on the Melodic Techno scene, starting his personal project in 2012 along with the launch of his label and brand, Steyoyoke Recordings. As the inventor and trademark owner of the Ethereal Techno subgenre, his artist name, Soul Button, reflects a strong conceptual identity.

Soul Button transformed his label into a real brand, first establishing the two sub-labels Steyoyoke Black and Inner Symphony, and later developing his own clothing brand, SYYK Berlin, as well as his own publishing company, SYYK Publishing. Well known in the electronic music scene as one of the most skilled DJs and producers, for his mental and soulful sets and tracks, Soul Button has affirmed his international exposure.

His career took off with many successful singles like "Swift Minds" and "Wraith", the latter featuring acclaimed American vocalist Terry Grant. Tracks like "Reverie" and "Metamorphosis" were a great anticipation of his first album, released in December 2019, "Phantom Existence", a 13-original track album that marked a significant moment in his career, followed by a remix edition in April 2020.

Recent years have seen continued success with the release of the "Pantheon" EP alongside Monarke, and singles such as "God Save The Rave", "Crescendo", "Merine", "Infinitude", and "Dalliance", capturing the attention of techno enthusiasts worldwide. His latest work includes "Walking Straight Up", a single that highlights his ascent in 2023, together with the collection, "Dual Realms of Sound", which was a testament to Soul Button's evolving sound and his ability to capture the duality of rhythm and melody, further solidifying his place in the techno realm. 2024 sees his second official album "Master Minds", which will be launched in April 2024, with preceding singles "Lumina" and "Tartribe".

Having cemented himself firmly in the scene, Soul Button maintains focus on the continuous growth and development of his labels as well as his own personal career. The upcoming years will surely be busy with new tours and projects on the horizon.
