From the opening bars of the title track, “Fall Into Place,” the listener is transported into a world of lush soundscapes, emotional melodies, and hypnotic percussion productions. Ben Rolo, is definitely one of the fastest rising stars in the Liquid Drum & Bass scene, and Soul Deep is proud to have him as a part of the family.   

The EP also features some other talented co-producers including R4NS0M, Fullalove, and Echo Motion.  Ben Rolo has picked the perfect collaborators to blend styles with, as each one of the songs takes on a sound of its own.  From the melodic piano chords of “Fall Into Place,” to the edgy mid basslines of “Sentient,” and the dark, emotive sounds of “Long Game,” the EP is absolutely breathtaking from beginning to end. The Bristol-based producer returns to Soul Deep with another classic collection of blissful liquid beats.  With previous releases on Intrigue, Lockdown, and Soul Flex, continues to compile an impressive back catalog of tracks that highlights his skills at creating lush dance floor grooves.  The Lost Control EP further proves that his production prowess is only getting stronger over time.  

The release kicks off with the title track, “Lost Control,” with features wavering synth pads, snappy drums, a filtered Reese-sounding baseline, and soulful vocals.  “Reach” is up next and features classic breaks, echoing vocals, deep sub-basslines, and epic pads.  “Too Close” takes over next and is driven by uplifting piano keys, steady drums, Rhodes keys, and a rolling bassline.  To round out the EP, “Without Love,” demonstrates a more stripped down sound with squelchy mid-bass tones, and “Ember River,” which brings a bit of a heavier dancefloor vibe.  Overall, Kontrast brings the goods on this release and proves why he’s one to watch!!  Press play and lose control!

In episode 4 I sit down with someone hugely inspiring in so many ways: Sweetpea!

A DJ, producer, radio presenter, interviewer, and an EQ50 sister.. Sweetpea experiences the drum and bass scene from many different sides. 

This conversation is full of things, that primarily, I think we all know, but we need to be reminded of - myself included. It's refreshing to hear some of the advice she has for up and comers and the way she's seen dnb evolve, the hope she has in the new generation and some of the things she misses from what she calls her 'golden era'.
 
We touch on important topics such as inclusivity and diversity, social media, mindset, battling quiet periods in your music career and the importance of being fulfilled in your life as a whole.

In the interview, I describe this as 'The chat I wanted to have, but didn't realise how much I needed'. I stand by this statement.
