Smooth N Groove welcome Hobzee to the fold with his 'Something Sleeps' EP. Straight off the back of his 31 Recordings release, the established producer delivers his sublime debut release on the imprint.

With a string of releases over the past year, it is clear that Hobzee is back in the production hot seat, and his 'Something Sleeps' EP does not disappoint. Featuring three deep liquid cuts, packed with dynamic drum patterns, funky grooves, and well placed vocals, showcase his flawless production prowess. Additionally, for the forth track on the EP, Hobzee has turned his production mastery to remix Smooth N Groove regular, Wyman's track 'First Vassal' which originally featured on his 'Detractor' LP.

When it comes to funkily uplifting drum 'n' bass, no-one does it like @souldnb

From the addition of live instruments to their deejay sets, to their twisting of the liquid funk formula across their discography, these guys have always brought something fresh and unexpected to the table. With releases on labels like Liquid V, Fokuz and now Four Corners, it's clear their combination of technical musicality and uncompromising party vibes are a winner.

And this is a particularly special release. As the EP title 'Friends' suggests, this one's all about collaborations, and Simple Souls clearly have some very talented mates to call on. 

Link and Jimmy Danger jump in for 'Blue Note Swing', where Jimmy's laid-back bars ride over a slick piano-led groove, interspersed with ice-cool instrumental solos. Then there's more jazz beauty to be found in the Kodan collab 'Wave' where horns lead the way and keys set the tone.

In short, this EP sounds like musicians of all kinds – producers, instrumentalists and vocalists – finding joy in the possibilities of DnB, and paying that forward to the listener and raver. The first track, “Can’t Let You Go”, features the warm, rnb infused and emotive vocals of Euna K. With hip hop style samples and filters layered on top of a big 808 style bass line with a touch of grit, the track feels right at home with the sound the brothers have always been known for.

“Oud,” the second track, is a deep, moody roller. It features a unique thematic sample from the Persian string instrument of the same name, which weaves through big, rolling jungle basslines, somber vocals, and atmospheric dub chords. A true head nodder.
