Don't be fooled by robotic motifs – RWNS is an electronic battle cry for authenticity. There is no boxing, packaging and mass-producing his off-kilter drum beats, raging basslines and emotive melodies. Ben (RWNS) earlier caught the attention of the distinctive techno duo Dense & Pika releasing his debut album ‘Rose’ on their acclaimed Kneaded Pains label in 2020. 

The ‘Sedona Circle’ EP includes three originals and a special remix on ‘Morning Glory’ by https://soundcloud.com/eatseverything, the UK dance legend who is currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of his career. 

The release is filled with moments of pure clubbing bliss, from the euphoric undertones on the title track ‘Sedona Circle’ to the enigmatic structures supporting ‘Morning Glory’. The latter also got reinterpreted by Eats Everything on his ’10 Years of Eats Everything Remix’, stripping the composition down to its bones and transforming the track into one of his groovy club weapons that we all know him for. 

Ben (RWNS) comments; “The title track “Sedona Circle” is the product of a particular self healing journey I went on earlier this year. I participated in a 21 day ‘raise your vibration’ challenge where myself and others went on a guided mediation journey and were spiritually transported to a rock in Sedona, California. We were asked to combine all of our energy to try and create something magical and profoundly beautiful. During this process all I could hear was this euphoric music in my head. It was an incredible experience which culminated in the making of this track. 

It’s a real pleasure to have Eats Everything join me on this EP showcasing his trademark sound. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing all of his achievements over this past decade, I’m very proud of him. It’s an honour to share this special moment with him on this release. Here’s to another ten years! Also special thanks go out to Sasha for all of his support. It means absolutely everything to me. “

LNOE 138 - Robots With No Soul - Sedona Circle

Steven Weston is a Grammy Nominated engineer, producer and songwriter from London. Bought up in Portsmouth, Steven learned to play the organ, but an early obsession with electronic music soon saw him trading it in for a set of turntables and a CDJ. At 18, he left for Spain, where he became a resident DJ on the Murcia coast. He has been on the move ever since, touring the world playing keyboard for the likes of Ladyhawke, Charli XCX, Mikky Ekko and UNKLE. He was also the first and lead bass player in The KLE side project Badger Kull. He cut his teeth as an engineer and Metropolis and Strongroom studios in London, and worked for many years as engineer for Rudimental, at their studio Major Toms in Hoxton.

The last few years have seen Weston collaborating with James Lavelle’s UNKLE on a variety of projects, he’s toured everywhere, playing sold out shows and festivals as part of UNKLE:Live. Most recently he produced the Ronin I mixtape, which was released spring 2021. Most recently he has remixed a track from that mixtape, Catch Me When I Fall, which has had amazing support from John Digweed.

Liquid is the first track Weston has released on another label, with his first EP and remix EP being released on his own label Blank Dust. ‘When I was getting into to Electronic music at a young age, Sasha and Digweed were my biggest inspiration, so for Sasha to put out my first track (on another label) is an honour’. Liquid is released on Last Night On Earth, 11th February 2022.

'As 2022 draws to a close, Purified Records delivers a new selection of melodic gems in its latest VA compilation – Purified Fragments XIII. Opening with their instrumental cut ‘Wind’, German production outfit Diode Eins make their label debut. Floating across a laidback arrangement, the producers combine undulating synths, shuffling percussion and bold instrumentals to enter a mystical realm. Namatjira teams up with Jelle van Leeuwen for a delicate and blissful offering ‘Reminiscent’, where the producers devise a stunning instrumental arrangement with a timeless feel. 

Frankfurt-based artist Paraframe closeses out the compilation with ‘Euphoria’. Building a hypnotic soundscape with staccato notes and raw bass, the track turns with a mesmerising drop that will keep listeners hooked across its duration.'

In August 2020, Kamilo Sanclemente began an exciting new journey "Beyond the Future", ably assisted by Colombian colleague, Dabeat. Now returning to Proton Music with a trio of new tracks and a trio of new collaborators, Sanclemente presents "Beyond the Future, Vol. 2" with remixes from French and Italian legends.

Opening with "Levitation", a powerful beat and machine-gun fire percussion trade blows with a subterranean bass groove and glorious arpeggiated riff that moves from muted to open filter in a smooth sweep. Adding texture through pads, the track, co-produced with Zalvador, evolves into beautifully crafted chords and shimmering emotive energy in the second half. In partnership with Giovanny Aparicio, "Innocence" is another shining jewel that glistens with evocative synth phrasing and delicate delays. A trademark heavy beat holds sway over the melodic elements as a swathe of glorious piano chords open up in the second movement and building in the back end with a powerful wall of sound crescendo. A third original track in collaboration with Mauro Aguirre, sees "Ambar" continue the strong rhythmic narrative of its predecessors. With a subtle organic house flavour, a free-flowing middle eastern inspired synth line meanders across the track while a rich vocal layer complements with natural sounding synth work. The result showcases Sanclemente's inimitable production skill and craftsmanship.

Returning to Proton Music on the back of four volumes of his ever-more successful, "One Side of the Underground" series, Rick Pier O'Neil continues to showcase an immaculate production technique through his prolific output. A pair of remixes in the shape of 2016's reworking of Karl Johan's C9 moniker and Mondkrater's "Stellar Depth" a year later, is now joined by a third. Reworking "Magma", O'Neil's attention to rhythmic nuance comes fully to the fore via an intricate percussive top line, while melodic themes rooted in Sanclemente & Dabeat's original, wax and wane across the 7-minute piece. In addition, a glorious array of additional production material adds a new dynamism with a subtle melancholic flavour, characterised by minor key changes and an incomparable understanding of the dance music industry.

Andrea Cassino is another artist who has found himself a regular on the Proton Music catalogue. A storied producer with a history of hit material under his belt, Cassino has shone with 2017's "Divine" EP and 2020's "Losing Part of Me" (alongside Greenage). Remixes for Rudy, GMJ and Michael A have all contributed to the Andrea Cassino narrative as the Italian born, Argentinean based artist excels once more through a glorious new treatment of "Aerology". Showcasing all his progressive house talent, a stunning array of reverb-coated pads and delayed motifs combine with driving beat and rolling percussion to create a rich and emotive sonic landscape. Using elements from Sanclemente & Dabeat's original with skill and ingenuity, Andrea Cassino extends the track with his production talent to create a progressive gem of an interpretation that hits the heights in the third movement.
