You can be a glitch if you want to be. Actually, you can be whatever you desire. This is the main idea behind Max Dahlhaus’ new EP Be A Glitch which, in his own words, is inspired by Sartre’s Existentialism Is a Humanism. The work reveals a connection to three key concepts in the French philosopher’s landmark essay: anguish, abandonment and despair. 
These words could easily form a slogan for our times, and the moods they signify are all apparent throughout the four tracks on Be a Glitch. Dahlhaus crafts extraordinary sounds out of these gloomy feelings, blending straightforward rhythms with noises, glitches and overlapping melodies. Echoes of club music reverberate here too, but this is a work that offers something more complex and reflective than four-to-the-floor repetition. 
Though Be A Glitch is an entire, cohesive work, it includes remixes from two of Dahlhaus’ favourite musicians, both of whom remodel his Artificial Prodigy into something completely different. Berlin-based Aquarian goes into breakbeat and drill-and-bass territory in his remix, while Berlin’s Born In Flamez takes the original and turns it into a post-pop groove. The result is as radical as Dahlhaus’ approach to working with sound.

Kastle's most recent transmission emerges from a field of fog, defiantly titled and as clearly designed and intentioned as ever. Resurrection is the natural follow-up to 2015's Polytopia, a series of mini epics that exemplify the marriage of dynamic sonics and narrative-driven track construction. Matching crystalline sound design with gritty textural inflections, Resurrection's five tracks walk the line between human touch and automated processes, embodying a spectral state that is at once tactile and out of reach.

Jumpstarted by the ominous, dub-siren laced "Daemon", Resurrection progresses naturally through a range of contemporary, soundsystem-ready sounds, utilizing familiar drum structures for entirely new purposes while constructing a flexible edifice that shimmers and contorts as the EP moves along. Concluding with the stilted gait of "Psychic Security", Resurrection epitomizes Kastle's determined drive to bring about a new display that binds the personal and the general.

BYZ’s music invites images of the carnival, an expansive, multi-focal space strewn with technicolor and focused explicitly on manufacturing spectacle. On March 1, the young Montreal artist arrives on Symbols with the Feel Good Now! EP, his official debut and another inspiring entry from a generation of post-beat scene artists embracing a maddening online environment by filtering it into their own work.

At six densely arranged tracks, Feel Good Now! functions as a particularly immersive debut, showing off a range of reference points from across the experimental-hardcore axis and diving into multiple idiosyncratic rabbit holes on each track. Sounds ping and squish against each other in BYZ’s sonic ecology, guided by an internal logic that trends towards the gothic and reels off new synesthetic information at a remarkable pace.

In its individual makeup, Feel Good Now! expands at a rapid pace from the first bars of “Jester’s Court” to the closing crash of “Mausoleum Of Flesh", touching on neo-orchestral arrangements, hydraulic sound design and souped up hip hop production. Virtual voices flit in and out of tracks like “Rift” and “Spirit Cry”, guiding BYZ’s synthetic space along through dozens of shifts and mutations. Hyperreality is de facto truth in the world embraced by BYZ and Feel Good Now! offers an inspired step into that space.
