LONE - NOT SEEING IS A FLOWER EP REACHES BEYOND REALITY

Lone continues to thrive on his newly established label, Ancient Astronauts, with its second physical release of the year, the ‘Not Seeing Is a Flower’.

Steering towards a new studio album from the Nottingham-based producer, the three-track EP takes its name from a Japanese idiom (見ぬが花), which suggests that reality cannot compete with imagination. Lapping at varied shades of the psyche, ‘Glyphic’ kicks things off with a heavyweight tribal techno cut inspired by Cutler’s experiences at Bass Coast festival this summer, fusing 303 acid with sweltering piano lines and otherworldly vocals for a transcendental dancefloor experience. The senses are heightened with title-track ‘Not Seeing Is A Flower’, which reaches beyond reality with slowly spoken samples effortlessly melting into a lush ambient techno backdrop reminiscent of early work from The Future Sound Of London, Orbital, and The Black Dog. Finally, ‘Boketto’ sees Lone embrace the same tone of downtempo trip-hop detailed on his albums ‘Lemurian’ and ‘Reality Testing’ with rolling percussion and meditative chimes drawing close on some of the producer’s most lavish work to date.

Xiao Quan is a DJ and prolific producer stemming from the clubs of São Paulo, after relocating from the Chinese Shenzen region. A rather mysterious character in the underground community, the artist specializes in exuberant mixtures of techno, grime, tarraxinha, and traditional Chinese elements fueled by a contemporary approach to hybrid club music. His tracks ended up in a whole multitude of labels (Clan Destine, scared2sleep, Clube Tormenta, Sirens, Spite) and EPs, such as the memorable collaborative EP on Unizone with DJ Loser.

Creator and curator of the Paulistano Taipei - ok party, in 2017 Xiao Quan founded the independent creative network and label called Dissolute, releasing works by musicians from all over the world as well as two various artists comps, one of which - as well as the precious Mergulho EP by LAZA - came with a stunning piece of artwork by Gabriel Massan. The Berlin-based digital artist, researching material's plasticity and reflectivity in aseptic, abstract environments, is also responsible for the visual component of Quan's latest effort, Connection EP.

Releasing on May 13th on the Hangzhou-based outcome FunctionLab run by the DJ/producer/vocalist GG Lobster, the EP comes at a point in the label's history in which the focus is steadily being shifted from a local artist base to a wider one, as confirmed by recent outings by the likes of 011668 & S280F, Yikii, and T5UMUT5UMU. Connection EP, in particular, is a melting pot of styles and rhythms split into 7 tracks ranging from 120 to 130 bpm, each shaped up to be the perfect club tool, as versatile as impactful.

The track we premiere today, i.e. the closing piece called Half Moon Kick, is a raw, straight-to-the-point composition employing Latin drum patterns, multiple vocal fillers, a distorted, minimal bassline, all framed by swirling and metallic percussions. Another hit by the iconic swag godfather Xiao Quan, be sure not to miss the whole EP out next week via digital download. Enjoy!

As for Ma Sha Ru, Taiga is the most accomplished use of Masha’s vocals to date, cocooning them in a tempestuous barrage of pulsating bass and a swirling, kinetic drive.

Newcomers Train to Eltanin are co-founders of the Cyberspeak Collective in Milan. Just in their early 20s, their contribution, Bambam speaks to a prodigious talent, taking a starting point almost reminiscent of 90s big beat before ripping it to shreds immediately, squeezing every ounce of freakiness from it’s bizarre vocal snippet and contorting the track beyond any recognition.

Drummy and Despina, featured on KINDER002 and KINDER003 respectively, double down on this atmosphere. The former, having shown already his penchant for the sinister, evokes the spooky raison d'etre of its namesake in RL STINE, and builds a shuffling stepper over PS2 squeaks, and a gargling broth of bass and taught drum hits. Despina meanwhile delves into disarray with Entropics, named for “the tendency of a system to go from a state of order to one of chaos.” The result is two build-ups for maximum tension, broken with two break-neck plunges into the abyss and a cataclysmic flurry of knotty beats and bottomless subs.

[Premiere] Train To Eltanin - Bambam

Kindergarten is a Brooklyn-based record label, rave and radio show. Despite being only a few releases deep on their label journey, they have begun to carved a name in the clubbing scene for rough and rugged tracks.

Since launching at the turn of the year, KINDER004 further cements the label’s growing reputation. Hitting hard with four dark and moody club tracks featuring the likes of Drummy, Despina, Train to Eltanin and Ma Sha Ru, label’s head.

Despina injects jagged percussion and gibbering bassline on 'Entropics. Delving into a distinct sense of disarray, Despina seeks to send any system into a raging form of chaos. The result sees two break-neck plunges into the abyss and a cataclysmic flurry of knotty beats and bottomless subs. Mystifying beats with electrifying force.

We haven't had a proper balanga in such a long time… Who can stop the ideas flowing in Semprey's head though? This new EP from the young producer aims to move your body, even if it's just in the kitchen or the living room. It's bass music, but a different kind, based on the sounds of traditional Kashubian burczybas.

Semprey lives in Kraków and this is his first official release. As a DJ he played most of the Tańce parties where he was simply sensational, getting known for his excellent edits of pop and rap tunes. As a producer he turned out to be one of the most talented in the city, breaking the mental barrier between dance and hip hop scenes.

Polish instruments sound different through Semprey's lenses. Burczybas, ocarina, ratchets and rattles might come from a Polish village but make his sound closer to the East Coast club music from the US. The opener—"Bomblerka"—is majestic and full of pomp, but very playful when it comes to percussion: ticking, scraping and tapping in a very dynamic mix.

"Jazda" is second on the EP and shows a more aggressive side of Semprey. Fascinated by the burczybas sound, he turns the low frequencies into dirty and rugged drops that flow gracefully on the carnival beat despite their weight.

„Dobranoc 🌈” is dedicated to the Polish LGBTQ+ community. It's the most melodic track on the EP, bringing back the memories of most euphoric clubbing moments: unity on the dancefloor, light beaming through dirty club windows at sunrise, mornings at the beaches, meadows and forests. Full of "put your hands up in the air" moments, it can slide into various sets, from house to trap ones.

The last track on the EP features Gabrysia and Zosia, two kids locked in home by the pandemic. Their untamed energy is channelled in every second of "Balanga". Based on an insistent ocarina loop, it's another lively track inspired by the need for new experiences, meetings and freedom.
