1)     Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I’ve started collecting records fifteen years ago and, with the passing years, as my addiction to buying records grew, my collection got bigger, counting now about 1500 singles/LPs and somewhere between 500 and 1000  45/7's. Although in the beginning I bought only hip-hop albums and singles and a few funk and jazz records for the breaks, now I collect old (and newly made) organic music from different parts of the world; I suppose it’s my way of discovering various cultures. 
 
2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

Of course. I like it because it’s very DJ friendly: eighty 12’’ records weigh a lot more than the same amount of 45/7 records. Plus, these records usually have one song per side which makes them very easy to sort through.
 
3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

Well, all I can say is that I threw in mostly old rhythm & blues songs, infused with an exotic/latin twist, together with some classic northern soul tunes, but also a few fresh tracks in the beginning. I like to let the songs create the story of the mix.

4) Where can people catch you / listen to your music? 

You can find me spinning records at different venues mainly in Bucharest and around the country. Together with my friends I started Vinyl, Rum, Tapas & Wine – a series of parties with the main objective to bring back vinyl as the main ingredient for social gatherings.

I think any deejay would tell you that it's very hard to do this, but I'll try to name five records that are dear to me :)

Lisboa - one of the oldest european cities - holds many teasures. Architecture, food, laid back feeling, always ready to embrace those who visit it and showcasing the immense spectrum of sounds and music from the 4 corners of Earth. 
During several visits Alex from the SoulBrigada guys was diggin' through countless record stores and flea markets to capture the special vibe of Lisbon. In the mix you can hear a potpourri of music from Portugal and the colonies like Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique. Enjoy this vinyl only mixture of sunny vibes for cold winter days!

Originally concealed in the credits of the record covers under the heading "composition and production", Guts secured his fame as a beatmaker by trimming the soundtrack of Alliance Ethnik, Big Red or the Svinkels. In solo since 2007 and his album "Le Bienheureux"(Was On Records), he then expanded his musical palette with "Freedom", a darker but also more released record released on his own label Pura Vida. Exiled in Ibiza, it is from his Balearic Island that he will publish in 2011 "Paradise For All", on the label which is still to this day, Heavenly Sweetness. Since 2013, he has concocted with his accomplice Mambo, the cult compilations Beach Diggin', dedicated to the discovery of rare and sunny galettes.

Guts is a regular at Goulash Disko Festival, and he likes to invite members of his musical family to join the show, and bring his own magic to the Goulash blend.

We invited our friend Palov (Carnibal Records) from Athens | Greece to record a guest mix for the 41st edition of SoulBrigada's monthly radioshow on Zurich's radio GDS.FM. 
He delivers a great 60 minutes 7inch vinyl only mix with his favourite tunes. In addition to his work as dj, producer and label head the symphatic greek is also known for his exquisite collection of funky 45s from south america and beyond.

Captain Planet has been on a roll over the last year, with the release his acclaimed debut album “Cookin’ Gumbo”, an expansive European tour, and a steady stream of head-turning remixes for heavyweights like Ana Tijoux, Katy B, AM & Shawn Lee, The Pimps of Joytime, Scrimshire and more. Now the wayfaring dj/producer returns to Bastard Jazz for a very special cassette tape project entitled “Mystery Trip Vol. 1”.
 
Approaching the project with a classic mixtape mentality and drawing inspiration from Madlib’s “Medicine Show” series, the Captain has sourced out sounds from all corners of the globe. Obscure cuts were ripped from vinyl, then sliced, diced, chopped and skewed with a hefty injection of original production, programming and homegrown field recordings from his travels around the world.  What’s resulted is a 45 minute multi-generational sonic journey, touching on sounds from Senegal, Jamaica, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Guadeloupe, and Zimbabwe, that reflect the depth of the Captain’s crates and his skills behind the boards. “Mystery Trip” is not just a DJ mix nor a collection of simple edits but rather an entirely new piece of work from C.P. - a love letter  to the funky sounds of our planet and the rare vinyl it hides in dusty junk shops, back alleyways, basements and attics.
 
Each limited-edition “Mystery Trip” Cassette tape comes with a free digital download of separated tracks/edits, along with the full digi-mix. As an added bonus, Captain Planet is hand-painting an exclusive batch of Walkmen with his own one-of-a-kind designs, which will be available as a premium pack with the tape at the Bastard Jazz store. Afro Rare Grooves @ Radio Nova

One of my favorite festivals in the World is the Radio Meuh Circus Festival nestled in the small ski village of Clusaz in the French Alps. It was quite an honor & excitement to play an entire night start to finish to kick off the 2019 festival with my partner in Turntables on the Hudson sound system, Nappy G on percussion. Although his drum head broke in the middle of the night, he managed to make magic & keep the rhythms flowing till the end freestyle with me on the CDJ's making beats, him rocking the broken congas & a beautiful charged up crowd keeping the energy very high! We get down anywhere anytime full of passion & heart & if you can imagine this very packed crowd sweating all up on top of each other, dancing, smiling, grinding, drinking... you get the idea of a Radio Meuh, Turntables on the Hudson, Alps, Nile, Ramblas, Danube, Ipanema, Caribbean vibes! SoulBrigada was founded in 2009 by the german artists & musicians Alex D. and Fabio V. With this project they want to pull down stereotyped thinking and musical barriers and present a wide range of various music. As the name SoulBrigada associates Soulmusic is obligatory for them but they’re not limited to this genre – the main point is the SOUL in the music. Moving between Beats & Breaks, Global Grooves, Electronica, Disco & Rare Groove, the listener can always expect an exciting and versatile trip.

Over the years, they have been involved in many projects - regular club nights in Germany & Austria with illustrious international guest DJs, their own monthly radio show on the Swiss-based radio station GDS.FM or the organization of national record fairs in Germany and Austria. 

Numerous DJ sets on festivals, clubs & radio stations take them across Europe to spread that SoulBrigada vision: from Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria to Croatia, Bulgaria & Greece. 

This passion has also led to music production, which has accumulated a considerable number of releases over the years. It all started in 2011 when their first production, a remix of a song by the 'Gilles Peterson Havana Cultura Band' was officially released on a limited & exclusive vinyl EP. Further releases followed on KAT45, Matasuna Records, Légère Recordings, Resense and Samosa Records. More releases will see the light of day in the near future.

In summer 2016 the own label Matasuna Records was launched, which is specialized in reissuing rare music from all over the world, but also doesn't disregard great contemporary music. The label has built up an excellent reputation among music connoisseurs over the years, so that many of the vinyl releases are already sold out.
