Mic Mills - Wonderland

I am really happy & honoured to announce the officially licensed release of this rare disco / modern soul gem from 1980. Here is my small story about this : I have been introduced to this record a few years back by DJ Klas. On the very first listen, it made me crazy & I went on an intensive & long quest to get myself a copy of the 45. It then became a kind of classics of my DJ sets, the record always being in my bag. It is definitely a sure shot for the dancefloor ! 

I then got in touch with the artist Lamar Thomas, first to try to get a spare copy, but after a few conversations on the web, I told myself it would be nice to give this rare & excellent record a new release. Pascal Rioux & Favorite Recordings finally agreed on the idea, and here it is.

Juno: If you're going to launch a new re-edit series, it's probably wise to get some big hitters on board. That's certainly what the people behind Theme From Kaffe have done for their debut offering. Italian heavyweights Bottin lead the way with "Ora La So", a lo-slung, Clavinet-heavy chunk of dirty Balearica blessed with sleazy, whispered vocals. Sleazy McQueen continues the eccentric theme with the chugging reggae-disco bounce of "Back To Hell", before Albion ups the tempo on the dusty, vocoder-laden wonky disco chug of "Experimento". An excellent EP concludes with the sprawling soundtrack disco of Ivory Boy's "Mare" and "Bright Mezcal" by Avanti, a curiously bumpin chunk of dub disco weirdness blessed with alien synths and a brilliantly rubbery bassline.

From the church to the library, it's now time for 'A Sweet Excursion', courtesy of our favourite French funkateers, DJ Soulist & Fulgeance aka Souleance, offering up three tasty edits to feed the dancefloor.

'Fantasie' opens the set with an idyllically relentless rhodes-riff riding a slice of sugary boogie, with a super squelchy bassline and a healthy layer of disco percussion spread on top, for those with a sweet tooth.

The righteous horns of 'Lord' blaze into play next accompanied by a 4/4 disco kick, before the sugar rush kicks in and the band let loose an almighty groove. Even a soulful set of angels begin to sing, guaranteeing this one will bring out a lil' bit of that holy ghost within.

We end out with 'Funkin' which does exactly what it says on the tin. A solid five minutes-plus of delectable heads-down funk containing all the right ingredients, and the French duo's own special sauce mixed into the pot for good measure.

With a decades worth of collaboration behind them, and persistent party rocking at festivals and clubs, Souleance continue to create tried & tested moments of sweetness on dancefloors across the globe. This three-tracker is no exception, and makes this another essential one for the record bags.

Lump (also known as Arttu) comes with the excellent disco stomper 'Down With You'. On the flip you find Sygaire and Co. debuting on Amplified as Muddeg. producer Fulgeance and DJ Soulist of What The Funk.
Fulgeance is one of the artist belonging to the French label "Musique Large". Leading and managing several projects (Claude or Fulgeance solo...), this talented producer and remixer is well known for his devastating beats and his stunning live performances. Focused on hypnotic and electronic Hip Hop, Fulgeance subtletly mixes his different influences in order to extracte a "Low Club" groove, anthem and hit track of his last EP at Musique Large.
SOULIST our « démagogue » French funky president, is known in paris for electic sets and is the creator and resident Dj of the Paris' night events What the Funk, which sixth anniversary has just been celebrated. Disco, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, latin music as an obsession, his mixes have met numerous artists and reknown DJs, such as Cut Chemist, Keb Darge, Dj Vadim, Quantic, DJ Numark, Dudley Perkins, Madlib, Pilooski .
Soulist and Fulgeance met in 2006 while performing and have decided from then to work together on a new project called « Souleance ».... This project is the mixture of Soulist's organic influences and Fulgeance producer 's know how and malice.
An uncomplex project mostly inspired by Black Music which sums up several energies, rythms and beats such as hip hop, tropical, breaks or funky 80’s-boogie- disco style.
