Syd The Kyd and Matt Martians are the neo-soul loving bredrins of Odd Future called, The Internet (@theinternetofwgkta). They've known each other since Myspace was a thing and their first album, Purple Naked Ladies, saw them dive into some of the coolest R&B we've heard in yonks. Their second outing, Feel Good, came out last week and now they're a band. A five piece consisting of old friends and previous collaborators that played as Mac Miller's touring band. We've already dissected what made the LP come together here on Noisey. Down to what food they were munching in the studio. Mr. Carmack - Humbled

Los Angeles has played encouraging parent to a growing beat scene for almost a decade. What started with the likes of Ras G has since sifted into the weighty FlyLo/Brainfeeder generation and out the other side. @Soulection are the latest family curating a set of releases high on feeling and emotion. Tentatively started in 2010 as a music/culture blog by Joe Kay and 96, it eventually blossomed into a radio show and platform for free flowing instrumental concepts. The ethos was simple. To collate a stream of what the world offered within the boundaries of their soulful DNA.  So despite how cavernous the internet can be, they’ve moulded themselves into a culture ripe with vibrancy and consistently exciting music. We got Joe Kay to put together half an hour’s worth of soul food for you to munch through this weekend.

Last week's show was definitely one of my favorites to date. It's weird how things work. It's the shows that I feel most unprepared for that end up doing well... maybe it's because I just really freestyle and go off of my whole library of music rather than trying to curate a specific vibe. It was hard to top last week's show but I did my best to really take it right back to the early beat era from 2008-2012 and played some current gems as well. I hope you enjoy this. It's an interesting point in time where Soulection is right now.. we have all the leverage that we need going into 2015 but there is a concern... and that concern is where will the sound direction go in 2015? If you've been to our live shows, you may have noticed a lot of energy and turn up vibes but where is the balance of soul music? This is something that I try to inject and keep in rotation within the radio show. Without soul music there is no Soulection. Can't forget our roots. Your'e gonna hear a lot of classic D'Angelo, Erykah, classics, and overall just good vibes. Someone has to keep the vibe alive.

This has to be the longest that I have ever been away from the show. I apologize for that. The amount of social media responses I received for so many people demanding the show from the past 3 weeks was humbling and also eye opening. It's amazing to realize how important this show is to so many people all over the world. I had an idea but I wasn't sure how deep it really was for others outside of myself.

For the past 4 years I have put the radio show before my health. I put Soulection before my health. When it comes to sleeping or eating healthy, I tend to put the music first. I feel this is why i've gotten far but at the same time i'm only 25 and I don't want to have health problems. I travel so much as it is which doesn't promote the healthiest of life styles so i'm just trying to not stress and do things on my time. Writer's block can definitely result in one's life when they aren't sleeping or eating properly.

I know you feel me. I do promise to not step away for that long again. Things have been amazing during my time away. I toured North America with Esta, Iamnobodi, & Jay Prince. Met so many inspiring people and creatives. I discovered so much new music along the way and have been planning out our next big moves for the rest of the year and 2016/2017. 

This show is very deep! I have my main man SPZRKT as our special guest. He stopped by the Red Bull LA studio when he was in town for TSOT. He's definitely a gem to me. His stage presence is amazing and when he sings, he sounds exactly like the recorded track if not better. We had a nice little chat + he played us 5 songs that inspire him as an artist.

For this session we have our man Jay Prince who is representing East London as our special guest. I was able to sit down with him in the Red Bull Studio in New York during our TSOT North America tour last month. He's one of my favorite artists in the game right now. 

I literally have been taking this show with me wherever I go. It's been one of the toughest to record, in fact it took me 4 different sessions to finish it due to all the moving around.
