Antoinette Van Dewark - Pink Mammoth - Burning Man 2022

While this year's Burn was a relentless and unforgiving one, as expected, there were a few divine moments of truth worthy of bearing the Soulestial standards for serendipitous spontaneity that we always seek to find. One of the greatest experiences for us this year, was in the almost instant integration of our new friend from across the pond, Greg Pidcock, into our collective family. The man is a workhorse, a comedian, a gentleman, and an artist - all helically wrapped up into one well packaged gem of a human being. 

If we had known Greg prior to arrival, he would've already been on our big Wednesday night lineup. But instead, thankfully, like the Burn often does, it gifted us a circumstance where he could play with the crew on another day. Shamiran graciously gifted her time slot at the Soulestial Takeover of the Bubble Lounge to Greg and magic was instantly made! 

With the end of the dragon tail in sight already on Saturday afternoon, it was a playa blessing to descend upon our friends' camp with Greg in tow. His booty-shaking housified set united two camps worth of people and served as a beacon for passers-by mid-dust storm to join the perfectly planned chaos within the Bubble Lounge tent. Thank you Greg! We can't wait to do it again, brother!

Greg Pidcock - Soulestial Takeover - Bubble Lounge - Burning Man 2022

Finally got my recording back from LIB and I'm immediately transported back to the rollercoaster of emotions I experienced that weekend. 

Between the heat, dust and being around tens of thousands of people after going through a pandemic, it's safe to say I was a little rusty at festivaling. On top of it, my legs felt like floppy noodles from how anxious I was to play the prime set time Friday night at the Junkyard. This is something I experience often before gigs, the sweats, self deprecating internal thoughts, imposter syndrome. I questioned if I belonged here or if I earned it. Then I mixed in and immediately felt at home. I thought to myself "Bitch you know what you're doing" and went on to play one of those "highlights of my career" sets for me personally. 

The rest of the night and weekend was a breeze, and the magic of LIB was amplified. I was able to see the thousands of smiling faces in front of me, the above and beyond details The Do Lab had added and updated, and realized this was so many people's first festival back and they could not be happier about it. I could not be happier about it.

It has been quite some time since the last time we gathered for a night of MBTS. I wanted to take some time after the pandemic to be quiet and see how the dance music scene would evolve, and what sounds would come out of the standstill that was Covid. Now that I have a good sense of where I want to be sonically, and what kind of energy I want to spread onto dance floors, I am ready to restart MBTS in 2023. We'd been waiting for this one since NYE when an impromptu tag set happened between these two and we knew it was fate at it's finest hour.  We got the boys together and the result was incredible, a 4 hour B2B set with The Scumfrog also providing some live drums to compliment the set had Mighty in a frenzy of dance.  We are certainly looking forward to doing this again!

Set Of The Day Podcast - 225 - Rachel Torro

Hi- Its me. Been a while.. Since the end of May Nina and I have spent a whole lot of time traveling around camping in CO and Wyoming. Its been nice to get away from social media, news and heat here in Denver. We miss you though. Anyways, I have made a few mixes at home over the last few months when we were in town and finally happy with this new one. Lots of older music from 10+ years ago mixed in with some fresh new jams. Its of course fairly eclectic- deep house, minimal techno (with soul), indie, leftfield and funky. Lots of friends music- Wolf + Lamb, Mark Slee, Acid Pauli, Viken Arman, Stavroz, Kerala Dust, Nico Stojan, etc.
