"One of the highlights of Krak In Dub‘s 2021 album, Catleya (Bogota Sessions), now has a music video. “Recógela”, a track featuring Colombia’s vocal trio La Perla and Bermudan singer Troy Berkley, has got even more continental with a video filmed in Bolivia showing the communities of coca leaf pickers and their participation in recent protests.

The video was made by Bolivian photographer and director Eduardo Inclan, who filmed in the Coscoma community of Los Yungas, as well as La Paz and the Tiwanaku archaeological site, with the aim of showing the harsh conditions for many campesinos in Latin America, their role in recent protests, as well as the ancestral importance of coca leaf for Bolivia’s indigenas." - Read more at Sounds and Colours 👉 https://bit.ly/RecogelaSandC

Voiced by Hilda Toubatla of the Mahotella Queens, ‘Hleziphi’ was one of Malombos’ most well-loved tunes in South Africa, where it gained the title of ‘the magical Hleziphi’ after appearing on the 1967 Malombo Jazz Makers Vol. 2 LP. The lyrics call to a girl, Hleziphi, to come home - ‘Come Hleziphi, bring the cows home to the kraal, it will rain soon’ and the song featured on the programme of the Into the Heart of Negritude show.

Guillaume Metenier aka Soul Sugar loves doing reggae version of soul songs and has previously released quite a few gems in the genre featuring Jamaican rising star Leo Carmichael on vocals, with songs like Timmy Thomas “Why can’t we live together” Marvin Gaye “I want you” Luther Vandross classic “Never too much”, and already a magnificent cover of Curtis “The makings of you”…
Fast forward to 2024 this time around Guillaume and his vintage keyboards armoury teams up with the Dub Shepherds crew composed of singer and multi instrumentalist Jolly Joseph, Dr Charty on bass and Jahno on drums to deliver a full album of orignal songs and covers captured live in studio on analog gear. The reggae version of Curtis Mayfield classic “Give me your love” is the first single from the forthcoming album “Soul Sugar meets Dub Shepherds- Blue House Rockin’ ” due to release in September 2025, the single will be available on vinyl 7’ with a heavy dub mix on the B side, and on all digital platforms on June 13th. The recordings were mixed by the Dub Shepherds at Bat Records studio on 24 tracks analog tape machine. Highest level of cool for impeccable taste. Grab it and chill!

Melting Records is pleased to snag and reissue the rare album Five Finger Discount from Budapest-based producer Nándor Kürtössy, known here as Savages. Originally released in 2008 in a limited fashion and only on compact disc, the album has been sought after by hip hop and trip hop heads alike. Melting Records has now issued this classic album for the first time on vinyl and is ready to give these tracks the wide audience they deserve.

Nándor Kürtössy is a prolific producer, behind many projects like Kovacs, Savages y Suefo, and Vega Ass, and is also the founder of his own Hungarian electronic music label, Mana Mana Records. Five Finger Discount was Nándor’s first release, born from the previous few years of sessions creating tracks for himself and his friends. Encouraged to collect these cuts onto an album, Savages was created and this remarkable album revealed. Its legend has grown since the initial release with some considering Five Finger Discount a classic of eastern European hip hop culture. The album track “You’re My Chocolate” has since become quite popular among the Greek downtempo DJ scene.

The melancholic guitars and tranquil atmosphere of “You’re My Chocolate” are indeed special, and its languid beats lead the listener through an evocative journey told through sound. This cut is indicative of Savages’ vibe and is only one of the highlights on this jam-packed album. Cuts like “Lookin’ For You”, “Long Distances”, and “The Blow” also captivate by combining hip hop, vintage lounge, and dance floor appeal into a heady, sample-rich stew. Nándor’s sense of humor is also evident throughout as spoken snippets and spy-crafted rhythms intermingle within the playful arrangements. Savages is on point … and this Five Finger Discount is a hefty bargain.

Pour le 1er novembre, on voulait une carte blanche spéciale, parce qu’on aime bien marquer le coup de des jours fériés. Et puis parce que, mine de rien, la fête des Morts, c’est important en musique, ça fait énormément de gens à se souvenir. Alors, on a pensé à quelqu’un qui synthétisait à sa manière tous les sons d’aujourd’hui, d’hier et de demain qui passaient sur Le Grigri. Car le pseudonyme de ce quelqu’un veut dire beaucoup: en choisissant de se cacher derrière l’alias https://soundcloud.com/free-the-robots, Chris Alfaro voulait montrer que les machines avaient elle aussi beaucoup à dire question liberté. Il faut dire que le garçon a été l’un des membres-clés des fameuses soirées Low End Theory à Los Angeles qui ont participé à brouiller les pistes entre électro, jazz, beatmaking et hip-hop. Tel Flying Lotus, Mndsgn ou Knxwledge, ce Californien expérimente à gogo et à foison aux côtés de Lefto ou d’Opio de Souls of Mischief. Prévu pour le 7 novembre, son prochain album divague sur les rythmes tribaux avec classe et nourrit déjà les ondes du Grigri. Bref un type à suivre de très près qu’on est heureux d’accueillir dans la grande famille des Cartes Blanches.
