being inherently independent, experimental music is bound to deny typical vertical principles of power and censorship that we face today even more than ever, yet it can contain a statement of the opposite nature. as we prepared this compilation the russian invasion of ukraine escalated further, leaving us with less words than ever, but a stronger urge to retain a voice. we believe that music communities are able to offer their own responses to societal changes, no matter how quiet or deafening they may sound. 

Σ3 compilation features 16 tracks by our contributors, friends, and members of the team and we really hope you enjoy them for what they are. but the important thing is that beyond a sensitivity to unconventional sound and commitment to international music communities, all featured artists are defined by a belief in human dignity and solidarity with the victims of war.

For the first album release on Pure Space - and a welcome addition to our Home Listening Series - we are excited to present "At Every Corner" by Mara, a pivotal figure in Eora/Sydney's experimental music community.

Since 2020, the Home Listening series has showcased the introspective and wandering side of the label, featuring releases from Jennifer Loveless, jobfit, and 黑芝麻 (Hēi zhī ma). This series diverges from club constricts, inviting listeners to explore deeper, more contemplative soundscapes.

Throughout "At Every Corner", Mara weaves a rich tapestry of sound, creating captivating composites of audio snippets taken from her travels and performances along the way. The result is a mesmerising long-play that invites the listener into an ever wandering journey.

Sometimes, we have the tendency to run away from distress because we do not want to deal with the feeling of pain, but the first step in spiritual healing is overcoming the fears and recognizing the pain. The sooner you address the cause of your difficulty, the sooner you’ll get freedom from the pain. Be aware of your situation.
Once you have faced the source of anxiety, you need to acknowledge the pain. Feel your emotions and question what their sources are. Be honest about your feelings. In this stage, it is normal to feel like situations are beyond your control, which can transfer the feeling of hopelessness. However, by allowing yourself to feel rage, it becomes easier for your wounds to heal. Honor your feelings.
Honoring your pain will teach you self-forgiveness. You should be able to feel the kindness within you and experience all the love you have for yourself. You will feel a conflict between the instinct to heal on your own, and the desire to accept the situation and seek support to get healed. You prove that you have an unwavering determination to get healed by choosing the latter. When you want spiritual healing, you have to place your faith in the universe, too. 
Surrendering the pain means releasing the pain and seeking support from the universe. It will help you ease your sufferings.
The negative ego vanishes from within you and makes your heart feel lighter once you release your pain. This is a sign of spiritual wellness. You will start to feel a deep openness towards things and think with a peaceful mind. You will become whole again and you will develop the ability to deal with the disruptions of your life with tolerance. The inner peace will be restored. Feal.

The first release on Project Squared in a year, "Make Your Mess" is a three track EP by Melbourne's Craig McWhinney. Craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on Melbourne labels such as Pinksilver, Melbourne Deepcast and his own Haul Music; also on labels based further afield such as Brendon Moeller's Steadfast and Speedy J's Electric Deluxe.

Craig's music is Techno, but it isn't preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. His tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of Dub Techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre.

The Make Your Mess EP is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: "Provocation Is An Excuse" is more furious and loud, "Disengage" is more restrained. All three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between September and October 2012.
