Parallel Worlds Fragmented DiN83

Greek synthesist Bakis Sirros who records under the name of Parallel Worlds has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN label. His debut release was “Obsessive Surrealism” (DiN26) back in 2007 and since then he has released two further solo albums, “Shade” (DiN32) and “Plector” (DiN76), as well as several collaborative albums with different artists including DiN label boss Ian Boddy & Node guru Dave Bessell.

This fourth sonic journey from Sirros on the DiN imprint sees him focusing in on his modular synthesiser systems, especially the Eurorack format with some able support from Buchla. These massive constructed patches live and breath like a crepuscular organism waking from its slumber. Indeed “Fragmented” is bookended by two wonderfully deep, textural tracks appropriately titled “Dawning” and “Sunset”. With the exception of the organ-like drone soundscape of “Time Flow” the remaining seven tracks encapsulate everything we have come to expect from this unique artist, namely dark, menacing bass lines overlaid with glitchy percussive patterns and beguiling, floating melody lines. It has certainly be noted before, but is worth reiterating, that there is a certain John Carpenter like soundtrack quality to the music of Sirros. Seemingly simplistic they shroud a wealth of detail and beauty that is revealed over repeated listening.

Lovers of Electronica, Dark Techno, Downtempo & IDM will find much to admire in “Fragmented” and this new album once again showcases the unique talent of this highly individual musician.

Book of Prog: fourteenth edition, 2/26/2024 broadcast

February 20th marked the 50th anniversary of the release of Tangerine Dream's landmark 5th album, "Phaedra", the first albums to feature their now classic sequencer-driven sound, which became known as their trademark! We celebrated and commemorated Phaedra by featuring several selections from it during this week's edition of Sound + Vision!

We also featured another spin for the new Jesus and Mary Chain single, ‘jamcod’, brand new music out on the Spotted Peccary label from Deborah Martin & Erik Wøllo and a new darksynth / dark wave single from the Cold Transmission Music label by Deu Ex Lumina feat. Mezolozyde.

Sound + Vision: February 28 & March 3, 2024 broadcast

International EBM Day occurred on February 24th, and better late than never, we celebrated it during this week's edition of Sound + Vision with a classic from the band that the day was more or less named after, Front 242 as well as with a more recent EBM selection by Orange Sector!

Additionally, March 8th marked the 30th anniversary of the release of one of the greatest albums of the 1990's, Nine Inch Nails "The Downward Spiral" and to commemorate that anniversary, we have a choice track from The Downward Spiral featured!

We also featured new and recent selection by HUIR, Black Nail Cabaret, Night Nail, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as old favorites from The Cure, David Bowie, Dead Can Dance, and Robert Rich!

Sound + Vision: March 6 & 10, 2024 broadcast

Los Angeles-based Future Synth band Trade Secrets returns with a new collection of stories about life, love and loss entitled "Escaping History", a full-length sonic journey spanning multiple sounds and genres that jettisons the band headfirst into the future by embracing their collective past. We are featuring a selection from "Escaping History" during this week's edition of Sound + Vision!

Additionally, we are going back to 1980 for favorites by Peter Gabriel and The Cure, more from the great recent release by Darkwave duo The Moons Of Jupiter, "Ghosts', another spin for the new single by Chaos in the Veil, 'I Need You' and a piece from both new releases by Electronic music composer, ELEON!
