Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Voyage & Return, Chapter 24 returns with seven tracks collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life. 

This broad-ranging edition of the series spans storytelling electronica from Peruvian Luis Leon, while NO GRAVITY and Olivier Weiter offer two variations on the broken beat theme. Meanwhile, label newcomers Yacine Dessouki & Alani make their own contribution with the organic house of the powerful opening track. 

Elsewhere big dancefloor cuts are offered by QUARTZ and Several Definitions, before deft emotional composition from Christopher Ivor brings the compilation to a clean and satisfying close.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories. 

And so, as the storyteller utters that age-old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

German duo and upcoming Techno act Diaz & Parree deliver their debut Frequenza release, ‘Act Out Sexually’, including remixes by Patrick Kunkel & Nihil Young and Carlo Ruetz.

‘Act Out Sexually’ is a psychotic piece of filthy techno that builds suspense through its endlessly rising trippy acid synth twists. VIKA’s sensual yet dark vocals seductively build upon the duos driving bassline, eventually layering in booming hi-hats to help create some massive releases.

‘Perverse Thoughts’ really builds upon those driving and fumbling kick drums taken from ‘Act Out Sexually’. This take however, is like a mini-techno perverse symphony; a very well developed set of arrangements that builds upon the duos addictive formula. With a plethora of twisting, warbling and driving synthlines, this track will no doubt keep you hooked from the very start.

Patrick Kunkel & Nihil Young’s remix of ‘Act out Sexually’ takes on a much more smooth and progressive version of the track. Still a very powerful interpretation, the pair take a much more melodic approach, layering a diverse range of synth lines with dark and brassy sounding stabs. Pulling the vocals back to a mere distant presence, the track has a somewhat hypnotic feel.

Carlo Ruetz remix of ‘Perverse Thoughts’ stays slightly more true to original, a thumping rave/techno interpretation that focuses more upon it’s rhythmic side. High-pitched synth lines are juxtaposed heavily against dark and progressive bass stabs, finally released with a pounding and percussive drum pattern.

Continuing a run of superfine progressive slices, Köschk returns to Bonzai Progressive with his "As Clear As Dream" single, which is backed up by a stellar remix from Rick Pier O'Neil. 

The Original Mix intros with a cool bass arpeggio which is joined by layering percussions and a muted kick drum. The intro builds and builds to a nice chunky kick drum and deep probing bassline combi, becoming the driving force of the groove. Various arps create a kaleidoscope of sound that mesmerizes while the main lead dishes out an Eastern flavor. A top-notch slice and a must have no doubt.

Rick Pier O'Neil never disappoints with his unique brand of progressive vibes. Revered by many as a champion within the genre, he has delivered a plethora of top-notch cuts to Bonzai and others throughout the years. Here he provides a solid remix in his envious style with the track boasting an intro made up of a blend of percussions and a subtle bass. Thick chunky kick drums take over a much deeper, probing bassline takes charge. The percussion section hypnotizes as the layers build making this the perfect fodder for the peak time set. Subtle melodies ease into the track and on the break, a rich pad sequence is joined by those dark probing basses before the beats return for the duration. A superb effort that will not disappoint.

We are proud to have our homie Mattia Pompeo back to Sincopat with a really solid EP which includes also one huge collaboration with AFFKT. The pack is called 'Future Shapes' and comes along an exquisite remix from Zombies in Miami.
Born in Italy but established in Spain, Mattia's production skills have been growing step by step having nowadays a unique and signature sound. 'Lander' opens fire with a perfect-balanced electronic composition where we can value the different layers of synths with a catchy leitmotiv. Mexican production duo Zombies in Miami show their deep and sexy vision of Lander in a fantastic way. Mattia meets AFFKT for this 'Piscolabis' where you can feel the sound strength and tension of the Sincopat head honcho, layers of organic synths are answering each other over a thick and strong bassline. For the closing, we have special and different 'Tramontana' with a delicate melody expressed on a broken rhythm. An absolutely strong EP and a step forward on Mattia ́s career. Enjoy!
