The bass doesn’t arrive. It erupts - like concrete cracking under pressure, like a pulse finally unleashed after being held too long in the chest. Fabio Santos’ "Give Me Some Bassline", the A2 track from "TSR002“"on Nijmegen’s The Set Records, is not a polite nod to the low-end - it’s a ritual, a summoning, a dirty prayer whispered directly into the subwoofers.

No buildup. No frills. No time to waste. The bassline drops in like it owns the place - thick, grimy, unapologetic - the kind of groove that lives somewhere between a warehouse and a bunker. It's the spiritual cousin to the rough-hewn funk of Dungeon Meat or SLABS releases: that no-nonsense, sweat-on-the-ceiling strain of House that doesn’t care who’s watching, as long as your feet stay moving.

But Santos doesn’t stop at the obvious. What begins as a straight-ahead bass weapon soon twists into something stranger. Chopped, Dubstep-flavored vocals jitter around the groove like electrical sparks, while reese bass textures creep in from the periphery - not overpowering, just lurking. Then, mid-track, the whole thing snaps: the tempo fractures, and we’re flung momentarily into a Drum ’n Bass detour - blink and you’ll miss it - a tension spike that teases collapse, only to bring us crashing back into that original house groove, now even heavier from the whiplash.

There’s a kind of alchemy here - not flashy, but functional, forged for the floor. Santos manipulates tension like a sculptor shaving chaos into structure. Every sound is deliberate, every transition sharp, every drop meant to provoke movement, not applause.

"Give Me Some Bassline" doesn’t just supply the bass - it builds a whole mood around it: grimy, kinetic, and irreversibly club-focused. It’s not a track for streaming. It’s a weapon for sound systems. With “TSR002“, The Set Records continues its vinyl-only, Dutch-rooted mission to showcase emerging voices with underground intent - and Santos’ contribution may well be the one that rattles the foundations hardest.

There’s no denying that MADVILLA is in a purple patch. Following the success of his "Locked In EP" on Garrett David’s Global Swing - a record that’s already edging into modern classic territory - and the "6AM EP", the ninth release on his own Hot Wings Trax, the Californian-born, London-based producer returns with "I Said Dance!", a four-tracker that bridges funk-drenched house, West Coast groove and UKG swagger with his trademark laid-back cool.

Landing as the tenth release on Hot Wings Trax, "I Said Dance!" pushes further into MADVILLA’s singular vision of dance music - refined yet cheeky, classic yet future-proofed. Sitting right in the heart of this offering is "And Chill... (Happy Pill Mix)", a track that manages to distill everything that makes the producer’s output so addictive.

Opening with a nod to EPMD’s iconic “You gots to chill” vocal - flipped with a grin and softened into a mellow mantra - the track drifts effortlessly into a warm, grooving low-end, that signature MADVILLA bassline that refuses to pick sides between House and Tech House, instead occupying a sweet spot entirely its own. There’s bounce, but no brashness. There’s funk, but it’s featherlight.

A jazzy yet deep synth line creeps in, giving the tune its melodic heart - smooth, slightly melancholic, yet fully committed to the mood. From there, "And Chill... (Happy Pill Mix)" builds not in intensity but in richness, layering subtle pads, twinkling textures, and enough swing in the percussion to keep the heads nodding and the bodies moving. Like much of MADVILLA’s best work, it’s a track that seems to radiate from the center of the dancefloor, best heard at that golden hour between night and morning when grins widen and time loosens its grip. A forgotten classic from 1997, rediscovered by the new generation of house leaders.

Originally released in the late ’90s, Marius Acke’s Crucial Traxx EP series is one of those rare gems — deep, funky, soulful, and full of the raw, analog groove that defines the golden age of house. Missed by many at the time, the records are now enjoying a well-deserved revival, championed by today’s leading selectors like Dam Swindle, ANOTR, Chris Stussy, Jamie Jones, Disclosure, Barry Can't Swim, Salute, Chloé Caillet, Known Artist, Sidney Charles, Shonky, Danny Howard and more.

Already a respected figure in the Antwerp scene back then, Marius Acke had co-produced numerous records for Mixz Productions and the iconic ARS label, including remixes for acts like Technotronic. His sound blended US-influenced house with early hip-hop sensibilities and deep, synth-laced textures, earning him a cult following among vinyl diggers and local DJs alike.

Happiness Therapy is proud to give new life to this essential piece of Belgian house history with a reissue of the Crucial Traxx EP series. All tracks have been carefully remastered and will be available on both vinyl and digital formats, including a special limited edition of 100 translucent red vinyl copies. HTCT01 marks the beginning of a reissue series dedicated to the lost gems of Marius Acke’s discography.

More than just a nostalgic reissue, this EP reminds us how visionary Acke’s sound truly was. Rooted in the 90s, but crafted with a timeless sense of balance and soul.
