Hannah Laing returns to Patrick Topping’s Trick with the ravey ‘Get Busy’.

Previously appearing on Trick’s ‘Tasty Techno’ compilation as well as on Sola, SOLOTOKO, and Spinnin’ Deep, Hannah Laing returns to Patrick Topping’s label with a two-track EP of high-energy pumpers. A masterclass in hands-in-the-air floor-fillers, both tracks see Hannah Laing reach for hooky vocal samples, heavy-hitting drums, and addictive synth lines, delivering some of her most accomplished work to date.

 “I like to think of my sets as fun, bouncy Techno and ‘Get Busy’ embodies this, a classic feel-good dance vocal with peak time energy. I actually bought the original Big Bass vs Michelle Narine version from my local record shop, Groucho’s in Dundee, when I was 15! ‘Mind Controller’ has been a mainstay in my sets recently, sampling one of my favourite hardstyle vocals, it shows the darker side of what I play. Japanese Techno Veteran Ken Ishii & Dutch duo Kamara join forces for ‘Powerplay’ on Rekids Special Projects.

Active for well over two decades, Techno icon Ken Ishii has chalked up a commendable discography, consistently pushing the genre forward. Teaming up with Dutch duo Kamara for the latest offering on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects imprint, the trio deliver two fierce techno offerings, combining their individual skills and styles into a formiddable pair of tracks. 

"The Kamara guys contacted me one day saying they were curious about collaborating with me. I love their releases on Tronic etc and I instantly thought it would be interesting. The result is a nice combination of my glitchy sounds and Kamara's mixing and layering techniques as a live techno performer." - Ken Ishii

Patrick Topping announces ‘Trick Presents Lethal Bangers Vol. 1’ 

Trick label boss Patrick Topping recruits a host of modern dance music’s most exciting talents for ‘Trick Presents Lethal Bangers Vol. 1’, the imprint's latest compilation. Showcasing his knack for A&R and keenness on pushing fresh talent, the roster contains numerous first-timers on the label as well as returning fan favourites. 

“To be fair, all these could have been A sides, they are that good! I’m buzzing to unleash these 19 bangers on the world. The variety in sounds is what Trick is all about, but they are all connected with a certain energy and distinction. Obviously, I’m biased, but I do think this compilation is unlike any other VA I’ve heard, and I’m really proud of it. It’s mainly an eclectic selection of house and techno, but there are a couple of cheeky Makina tunes thrown in at the end, for the craic! It's the first time Trick’s released Makina music, but the quality of the other 17 house and techno tracks, makes me think there’s the freedom to do so. A classic NYC club anthem gets a re-work from Charles D.

‘Final Chapter’ by Mike Macaluso was first released in 1999 on Dieselgroove and immediately became an omnipresent classic. “I would hear it all the time on every house music mix CD I got my hands on,” buzzes Charles D. “Once I started actually going out in the mid-2000s, it was still being played at legendary clubs such as Sound Factory, Tunnel, Pacha and Avalon. It was quite literally the soundtrack to New York nightlife at the time.”

The original, clocking in at over nine minutes, is a golden dancefloor trip taking in elements of house, trance and Hi-NRG, and is famous for its rousing bell sample throughout. It’s an iconic sound signature that brought many a dance fan to a weepy state of delirium.
