Since breaking out with his track “Is It Real?” a few years ago, Maryland rapper DDK has grown a dedicated following, dubbed the DDKULT. His new EP, ‘Nats Creek Road,’ includes tributes to his stomping grounds called “silver springs” and “maryland marauder.” In this exclusive commentary, DDK discusses tracks from the EP and the tough but important subjects they address. On “self talk,” he talks about being an advocate for mental health awareness while living with bipolar disorder. It’s “me getting in my crazy bag,” DDK tells SoundCloud. The EP’s opening track, “talk my shit,” grew out of a place of frustration and his commitment to rhyming.
