To make his latest solo album, 2024’s ‘Flow Critical Lucidity,’ alternative rock vocalist and musician Thurston Moore went to a Swiss writers residence to get into a contemplative headspace. In this exclusive commentary, the Sonic Youth founding member talks about the making of his ninth solo album, which, in his words, is focused on “the power of dreams and the dignity of nature.” On “New in Town,” he focuses on “the spirit of youth and change,” using piano, guitar and electronics. For “Sans Limites,” he collaborated with Lætitia Sadier of Stereolab. The track “We Get High” tells the story of a mountain girl returning home and “The Diver” closes the album with the story of a lost diver in Lake Geneva.
