Creative Coast is a 12-week community arts project produced by c21 Theatre Company in partnership with The Old Church Centre, Cushendun, and residents of The Glens of Antrim. 

The Creative Coast sound installation, created by sound artist Fionnuala Fagan-Thiébot, showcases spoken word poetry written during workshops by residents of The Glens of Antrim, and uses authentic field recordings of Glens locations as underscore. This work was installed at The Big Arts Festival, at Glenmona House, Cushendun, 4th – 5th May 2024 and was followed by a live community performance on the 6th May 2024.

Fionnuala Fagan-Thiébot is a Belfast-based musician, song-writer, sound and installation artist, with extensive experience in education, community music and reminiscence facilitation. She has produced and created a variety of critically-acclaimed interdisciplinary music projects - Homebird, Stories of the City: Sailortown, Dreaming Protected Me, LoveNotes, and Station Flight - that document local oral histories through her artistic methodology, which draws on the field of verbatim theatre, and intertwines verbatim song-writing, sound-design, installation and live performance. She was Artist-in-Residence at The Metropolitan Arts Centre, Belfast, in 2014 and was awarded a PhD from the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queen’s University, Belfast, in 2015. Fionnuala’s academic research has been published in the Oral History Journal and four of her studio-recorded verbatim song albums are archived in The British Library, London. Her artistic work has been featured in Culture Hub Magazine, CultureNI, the Belfast Telegraph, the Oral History Journal, the Oral History Magazine and the Honest Ulsterman, on BBC Radio Ulster and RTE 1, and has been performed at the MAC, the Ulster American Folk Park, The Pic ‘n’ Mix Festival and The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival. Fionnuala has worked for a broad range of organisations including: Open Art’s, Replay Theatre Company, Primecut Productions, Tinderbox Theatre Company, Kabosh, the Metropolitan Arts Centre, the Junior Academy of Music, Queen’s University, Rathmore Grammar School, Belfast Metropolitan College, and the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, London. She has worked as General Manager for c21 Theatre Company since July 2022. Fionnuala was Sound Designer on c21’s Deaf inclusive theatre project, Expecting, which launched as part of the first Deaf Arts Festival NI in May 2023 and on Creative Coast, which was performed at the Big Arts Weekend, Cushendun, May 2024. Most recently, she was selected as a Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Music Bursary recipient and as a participant on the NI Film Scoring School, a partnership between Dumbworld, Ulster University and Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble.
