About the EP-*

The Isha Upanishad (Devanagari: ईशोपनिषद् IAST īśopaniṣad) is one of the shortest Upanishads, embedded as the final chapter (adhyāya) of the Shukla Yajurveda. It is a Mukhya (primary, principal) Upanishad, and is known in two recensions, called Kanva (VSK) and Madhyandina (VSM). The Upanishad is a brief poem, consisting of 17 or 18 verses, depending on the recension.

It is a key scripture of the Vedanta sub-schools, and an influential Śruti to diverse schools of Hinduism. It is the 40th chapter of Yajurveda. The name of the text derives from its incipit, īśā vāsyam, "enveloped by the Lord",or "hidden in the Lord (Self)". The text discusses the Atman (Self) theory of Hinduism, and is referenced by both Dvaita (dualism) and Advaita (non-dualism) sub-schools of Vedanta.

After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. Coming in hot from his rework of Infinity Ink’s ‘Infinity’ on sister-label Glitterbox, nightlife authority Alan Dixon now collaborates with rising artists of the electronic scene. The UK pairing of producers Tom Staar and Chris Spero, mOat have found a home on Armin Van Buuren’s imprint Armada, recently releasing ‘Heat’ with Tensnake. Previously collaborating with Alan Dixon for ‘Infados’ on Love Attacks Records, mOat have also worked with the hybrid producer and live performer Tom Diesel for ‘Pizza Cat’. ‘Mare’ is Christian Löffler’s second studio album and follows in a similar vein to his self-released debut, 2011’s ‘A Forest’. However a key difference is that while his first album was heavily sample-based, ‘Mare’ is much more organic, in which nearly every sound and every instrument is self-recorded.  Many of the album’s ideas are based on field-recordings taken from the surroundings.

Belgium-based talent DI MARTINELLI twists HELMUT’s recent anthem ‘Fur’ into a dark, hypnotic club tool. The original guitar chords merge with rolling ominous bass, hazy vocals, haunting synths and tribal undertones. While the vocals stay put, the lyrics are downplayed and fuzzy, leaving lots of room for the reverberating sounds to fill in the blanks, HELMUT’s voice ricocheting from the walls, reflected and refracted. 

However layered, this elongated mix maintains the careful pace of the original track, working instead with newly invented arrangements that go right down to the core of the tune. Thorough, yet subtle.

In adding a pulse that oozes Berlin nightlife, DI MARTINELLI creates a subdued-sounding dancefloor drone out of the poppier original. Somehow, this Antwerp prodigy manages to blend a psychedelic desert feel with a dark trance the shade of pre-dawn drifting through forgotten alleyways and backstreets. It’s 4 AM, the club is still coursing through your veins, but you’re on the way home and wanting to stretch the moment. This right here is your perfect soundtrack.

Terminal Caribe is the newest album of Santi & Tuğçe who weave timeless, borderless melodies with global, dance floor rhythms. The twelfth batch of fruits from our fruit orchard have been picked, and are ready to taste.

The deep melodic sounds of French producer Quatri have a depth and uniqueness that is hard to quantify or draw comparisons against. His detailed and emotive production style, which made its foundations at imprints like Oleeva Records and Nie Wieder Schlafen, is quickly turning underground heads.

The title track "Vendet" sits firmly in Quatri's signature style. Surrounded by a crisp drum rack, atmospheres weave in and out, through flutes and influences from the World. "Who Are You" is a lot more clubbier of the two. With brass Parisian elements and a hefty kick, the track will pick up the flow in a set in no time.

The EP is closed off by two remixes from two exciting producers in the scene; Joe Miller and Padre.

Padre's Ceremonial Mix strips everything back, and lets the track breathe. Created in mind for DJs who want to add their own drum beat, the harnessed darkness of Padre's Ceremonial Mix is a testament to his carefully selected taste and producing style.

From the kindest Australian on the planet, Joe Miller's remix carefully respects the original, while refocusing & stripping down elements to take you into a calmer state. Signed to labels like All Day I Dream, Traum + more, and support from Lane 8 and Robert Babicz, Joe Miller is one to look out for.
