The Chaos Computer Club is Germany's primary source for futuristic and alternative thinking since the 80s. Each year between Christmas and New Year's Eve, this association gathers hackers from all over the galaxy for a huge congress. Under the given conditions, the convention had to move to an online exile for the 2020 edition: The "Remote Chaos Experience" (RC3). Music and all kinds of arts are an integral part of these conventions - this set is one of the contributions to the four-day streaming marathon that soundtracked the RC3 (27 - 30th of December, 2020).

Music producer, DJ, technician, and overall renaissance LDY, Alyssa Barrera Auvinen’s artist name was born from her love of all things synth. An early liking to music brought her to the dancefloors of Mexico, where she began DJing as an adolescent before going on to study music and sound engineering in New York City. In her music production, Alyssa plays with different instruments and unexpected vocal styles to bring her dark fantasies to life. She recently contributed a track to the new Prague-based label LTE (and the new home for our mix series) with the wind-tunnel, electro-infused ‘Suave Duro’. She spoke with Jonas about racial bias in the media, DJing dangerous parties as a teenager in Mexico, sound therapy, the music scene in Vienna, and exploring the worlds of codes, electronics, frequencies, and oscillators.

@ldyosc is a musician and computer/electronics engineer, who was born in Mexico and grew up on the border in Laredo, Texas. Her vinyl discography began in 2018 with an EP on The Bunker New York. In 2019, an LP on Swedish label Kontra-Musik. The following EP in 2021 was on SF label Squirrels on Film. In 2022, her track “Suave Duro” was released on a VA on Prague’s LTE Records. Over the years she has also released music digitally and on tape. LDY OSC uses synthesis, rhythm & voice to conjure layered compositions that draw from techno, electro, & underground synth-wave.

When she gets on stage, Mexico-born Vienna-based producer Alyssa Auvinen Barrera becomes LDY OSC. A frontier-busting scrambler of sines by trade, Alyssa began her musical journey in the late '90s when she felt a connection to the heavier industrial sounds. By 2007 she was immersed in electronic music and soon turned her sights toward DJing. After learning electronic music production techniques, Alyssa moved to NYC in 2010 to attend university, graduating with a BFA in Liberal Arts and Science with a Major in Music and Sound Engineering. While in University her classmates called her Lady Oscillator because she was into the study of synthesis and DIY synth culture. 

She has long been taking part in synth-punk/wave projects such as Artefactos De Dolor - alongside Todd Sines and Archetype - whose debut LP 'La Niña' came out earlier in 2019, LDY OSC is now spreading her wings as a solo artist. After releasing the single 'OAO' on The Bunker New York 15-year anniversary compilation, quickly followed by her first solo effort on the label, 'Magic² of 8' EP, in 2018, Alyssa made a further impactful impression with 'sōt', issued via Swedish label, Kontra-Musik, and which could be presented as the "dub version of the Chernobyl meltdown".

Showing a much different facet of her craft, LDY OSC’s own take at the dance and festival-oriented music continuum can be heard on her upcoming 'Electric-Earthy-Esoteric' EP, to be released on c.l.a.w.s and Solar’s label, Squirrels on Film.  A citizen of the universe to its widest extent, just as comfortable incorporating foreign cultures and languages into her art as she is toying with the semantics of analogue music, LDY OSC is just getting started.

When she is not making music for night clubs and electronic music oriented events, Alyssa dedicates her time to teaching Barre and hosting  meditations using oscillators and other instruments used for sound healing. Her sound therapy techniques incorporate her extensive knowledge with music, tuning, and voice training. As well as incorporating body movements into her practice to further release tension in the body. Before her musical career Alyssa studied Physical Therapy in college and studied health sciences extensively. The workshop that she presents varies in format and can be presented in many different settings.
