An expert at creating harmonious illusions of sound, Germany’s Powel always finds a way to explore natural elegance and tasteful patience in music. Powel’s unique touch is in capturing those warm, celestial vibes filled with airy atmospheres and delicate rhythms and telling a melancholic story fused with ghostly, low slung deep cuts that are rich with nuance and subtlety. It’s rare to hear an artist so intimately blur the line between uplifting pieces of music and raw, emotive records that exude the soul of deep house in some of its purest forms.  A true artist in every sense of the word, SoundPark was excited to sit down with Powel to discuss the fluid state of what it means to be “successful” and how one ultimately finds harmony between their work and their passion in a way that satisfies the soul.

Over the course of two decades, Andrew Cole aka Luv*Jam has carved a unique niche as a tastemaker of the highest regard not only with his effort as a selector but as a conservator of vinyl culture.  As a selector, Luv*Jam has graced booths and stages far and wide including Fabric - London, Tresor - Berlin, and Space – Ibiza (which he was a resident of for nearly 12 years) among an otherwise absurd assortment of venues  that span across the world’s finest clubbing and festival institutions.

As a shepherd of vinyl culture, Cole is the proprietor of four vinyl labels that delve into a space where enthusiasts seek and ultimately collect individually numbered/stamped vinyl records featuring unique artwork that sell in limited quantities. These records feature some of the most timeless pieces of music we have come across over any medium and we celebrate these efforts as true labors of love. SoundPark invited Cole to sling together an audio tale that journeys through three decades of Luv*Jam’s secret nippers from the past, present, and future that spans across four hours of music. Based out of a small township in Durban, South Africa called KwaDabeka K, Vicmari illustrates a fascinating touch when it comes to weaving the threads of delicate soundscapes together. What we have is a peaceful take on ambient fused jazz and dub house with dashes of uplifting spoken word that has settled as an important part of the vibe and aesthetic of contemporary South African dance music. You'll be able to hear original Vicmari pieces, special edits, and good ol' Jazz improvisation to take us all home during this audio tale. One of the brightest hand signatures we've received to date on our catalog. Without further adieu...

Galactic. Space. Funk. For nine years now, Adham Zahran has been telling stories by shooting out absurd levels of soul and blues from his fingertips onto the keys. It's a swanky, funk drenched sound that holds vintage aesthetics yet features a nu-school frame. It's been amazing to hear Adham's unique slant on Funk realize into such a cool exploration of the palette. SP invited this snazzy tastemaker to tell a tale through original material and special, personal cuts of Jazz, Funk, and Disco that frame his unique penchant for creating that deep spacey vibe. Gotta celebrate music with this kind of swag having a footprint in Egypt.

Mix of the Day: Bensley

If you are a dedicated electronic music fan, there really is no need to give you too much of an introduction into the world of 16 Bit Lolitas. For those that are uninitiated, welcome to a whole new world. 

The Dutch duo of Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek have been around since the early 00's, releasing the sort of productions which always reserved space in many revered DJ bags. They received worldwide recognition with tracks like ‘Murder Weapon’, ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, ‘Sedna’ and remixes for the likes of Sander Kleinenberg and Armin van Buuren.

Where many early-00's prog producers faded away, 16BL endured its heyday to stay as relevant today as they were a decade ago. Lately, the 16 Bit Lolitas have been focusing some of that energy into their side project, Cubicolor; a project with Tim Digby-Bell which of late has been gaining some serious momentum, even seeing them receive some attention outside of the club scene (they 'are currently working hard on the new Cubicolor album').

For their Balance excursion the Dutch boys have kept to form with a beautifully crafted selection of tracks and remixes from artists like Patrice Baumel, Trikk, Audiofly, Adriatique and more. And needless to say, 16BL have delivered a masterful mix.
