Taking the core of Trance and giving it a new shell, treating early synth music like remnants of a forgotten civilization and translating them into a language his generation can understand, turning club and rave into sacred artifacts to be sent as a message of love and passion into foreign worlds, that is what Maxime Prieur alias Doline is trying to do, and the results sound like nothing else. 

An all-time melody-fascinated Doline reached out to Sound Pellegrino after hearing Teki Latex’s “Deconstructed Trance Reconstructed” exercise-in-the-form-of-a-mixtape at the end of last year, claiming we should lend an ear to his own work as he thought it was leaning towards the same logic and exploring the same discourse between drumless Trance and broken riddims. And boy, was he right! We instantly fell in love with his pack of demos which included “Karidja”, which we put on our “SND.PE VOL.04” compilation, as well as two stand out tracks: the ravey “Landeoff II” and the cinematic “Elusive” (which channels Sound Pellegrino’s recurring appreciation of ‘70s film score-flavored synths). “Cus D’Amato” came a bit later and blew us away with its slow-paced otherworldly romanticism. 

With these three tracks, 23 year-old Doline is creating something pretty unique-sounding. Of course you can trace influences and cues from Trance (obviously), Grime, RnB, Techno and Ambient but Doline assembles them in opposite ways from current trends, concentrating on pristine purity rather than the omnipresent re-hashed sped up ‘90s vocal gimmicks. In an era where everything has been done before, it’s refreshing to hear someone putting together bits from pre-existing genres in a new and unexpected way, giving them a new context and a new function.

Friends come first, so to speak. We hold the words of those we hold dearly as gospel, and this EP mirrors that feeling.
After his last release "One" on Room With A View (w/ Detroit Swindle remix) and several contributions to labels like MCDE, Endless Flight or together as Creative Swing Alliance on Wolf Music, Tsuba & City Fly - FACES Records & MCDE labels head honcho Pablo Valentino decide to release what he describes as his first full EP on his own imprint FACES.

"Friends Say So" is a nicely stripped down filter-jam; you don't need much when all the elements are good like this: a haunting female vocal sample, gritty lo-fi beats, a disco loop. Reminiscent of early Shake or the very first Sneak records, this beauty will definatly set the floor on fire.
 
"What Does It Take" sounds like a straight up Shelter anthem from '92 that just got unearthed. Heavy on the 909 and Juno keys, its the kind of late night jam that leaves everybody with a smile on their face. 

On the B-side, "Nuff Thangs" opens up things nicely; lush keys on top of a disco sample set the mood for things to come with "Can't You See", a female diva singing her ass off over dirty-as-hell MPC beats and rhodes stabs. You cant go wrong with this package!

Freshly relocated to NY, Munich-born Florian Senfter shows off the sound of his artisanal Brooklyn studio with this expertly produced EP of club-ready bombs. 
Title track ‘Something Else’ flexes serious sonic skills, with a low-end that has enough weight and definition to make an experienced producer want to throw in the towel and do something else with their life. The vocal hook lifts the pop potential, the trippy synth fx keep things weird enough for the people on drugs, and the loose drum samples add just enough funky town to get normaloids on the floor. Top notch. Hit. 

Also on the release: 
Workhorse might as well be called 'Zombie’s theme’… it’s classic Zombie Nation, with a devastatingly simple, catchy bassline that filters and modulates its way to frenzy alongside sparing hats, clap, a fat kick, some nice analog bleeps and a single word: 'work.’ It jacks, it builds, at the end it literally bubbles with the man's vibe. Unmistakable sounds and arrangement. Why don’t more producers have this much of a ‘sound?’ Because they’re not this good.

Horsework flips things around into even funkier formation, with the same vocal sample repeating over a groove that seems destined to bounce it’s away across every Dirty Bird loving dancefloor / BBQ until the apocalypse.

Finally, A Numbers Game separates itself from the otherwise air-tight EP-seal-of-precision (Turbo A&R clearly value quality above concision) recalling the gritty sounds of ZNs alter ego John Starlight, with a touch of the off-the-rails energy and insanity of ZZT. 

Respect. Maybe even a little fear. He's that good.

“2.4.1” is the second track to be unveiled from “Sans Dormir”, the second Bot’Ox LP. Two months after “Basement Love”, this second episode of a six-piece series reminds the two guys of the sound of California. No doubt it is less dark than the previous one. However, it does not really qualify as sunshine pop. The single is presented with four remixes from Paris, Tel Aviv, Toronto and Medellin.

1. 2.4.1 The artificially low voice of a man who has not been lucky in love matters tells us how money leads to trouble. Sami Osta, one of the band’s friends and partners, is the one who says this text written by Anna Jean, already responsible for some vocals on the previous LP, most notably on Blue Steel single. The production, driven by drums and guitar textures, is balanced between its complexity and the laid-back impression that the song leaves.

2. 2.4.1 (Cosmo Vitelli remix) Just as he did for Basement Love, Cosmo Vitelli, one half of Bot’Ox, gives us his dancefloor style take on the track. But the result is far from a simple “club edit”. He explores new and rich melodic, instrumental and rhythm paths. The eight-minute track is divided into several distinct sections.

3. 2.4.1 (Red Axes remix) Red Axes, the Israeli duo who signed two EPs and several memorable edits with I’m a Cliché, worked to change “2.4.1” into a discoish post-punk ballade.

4. 2.4.1 (Sandro Perri remix) A member of the famous label Constellation since 2003, the Canadian producer stays close to the original while deepening its soft-rock features. Less vocals, more guitar solo.

5. 2.4.1 (Sano ‘Money remix’) Young Colombian producer from the Cómeme family changes “2.4.1” into an acid track. And one comes to consider what kind of a drug mix can result into this weird alliance between a weighty voice and jerky moves.

Based in Paris, Sound Pellegrino is the label started by TEKI LATEX and ORGASMIC in 2009. The label focuses on club sounds evolving at the fringe of House, Techno, Bass and un-named half time dance-music hybrids all tied together by a strong hip hop background. The spirit of the label is to bridge gaps between scenes geographically, musically and generation-wise. The catalog is provided by a vast community of like-minded artists from all over the globe, forming a rich and diverse worldwide bond.

Curated by renowned DJs and taste makers Orgasmic and Teki Latex (from pioneer electronic hip hop outfit TTC – Teki also happens to be one of the founders of Institubes), Sound Pellegrino has quickly established itself as one of the labels to reckon with, releasing singles by Zombie Disco Squad, Renaissance Man, Todd Edwards & Surkin, L-Vis 1990, Para One, G.Vump, Bok Bok & Tom Trago, Panteros666, Teeth, Maelstrom (amongst others) and generating interest by A-List DJs from all ends of the dance music spectrum such as Modeselektor, Hudson Mohawke, Boys Noize, Annie Mac, Diplo, A-Trak, Sinden, Pete Tong, Claude Vonstroke, Ivan Smagghe, Laurent Garnier, Chloé, Justin Martin, Agoria, Joakim to name a few.
