This week I introduce Jared Dillian  who heard Erasure's "Hideaway" at age 13 and was forever hooked on electronic music, amassing a giant CD (and cassette) collection one $10 allowance at a time. A classically trained pianist and organist, his love for electronic music continued through college, one career (the military), and another (finance), and after being thoroughly rinsed in the financial crisis of 2008, decided to at last pursue his dream of being a DJ, splurging on top-of-the-line Pioneer decks and mixer. Trance was his gateway drug, but today he plays a blend of progressive house and melodic techno, emulating (but not too closely) the styles of his idols, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, and others. Whether playing parties in New York or in his home state, South Carolina, his stripped-down, melodic sound is instantly recognizable: thoughtful, moody, artistic, and most of all, aspirational--but never commercial. He is also a published author: his debut memoir, STREET FREAK, was published in 2011.  Jared also publishes The Daily Dirtnap, is an investment strategist for Mauldin Economics, and is a Forbes contributor and Bloomberg View columnist.
