Head of the queer identifying VRAAA label and a celebrated protagonist on Berlin’s most sexually liberated dancefloor, Pornceptual, Projekt Gestalten is the identity of Brazilian techno producer and DJ, Diego Garcia. Adorning their DJ sets in various forms of white wedding dresses and baroque embroidery, Projekt Gestalten’s sexual-kinks, queer desire and bold feminine spirit flaunts a unrivaled promiscuity of tongue-in-cheek tawdry that’s pushing techno music and its artistic, sexual appetites that much further.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙅𝙀𝙆𝙏 𝙂𝙀𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙉: It was terrible. I started producing before DJing. I did a remix for a queer project in Brazil called Las Bibas from Vizcaya back in 2009 and they invited me to play at its release party in a bar called Sonique in São Paulo. I have practiced for a few days with my friend's DJ setup but I still was not ready for playing in a club, I had no skills as a DJ. Ironically, I was dressed with a nice shirt, vest and tie, very similar to a groom's outfit. I had no idea I would become a bride in the future.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Producing, DJing, running a label, ranking Divas… how do you manage your time?
𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙅𝙀𝙆𝙏 𝙂𝙀𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙉: I have a lot of free time during the week. I try to pace myself and find a balance between doing projects and also some relaxing down time. Inspiration to produce comes and goes for me, sometimes I stay months without producing and, then, I compose a full EP in a day. Last year was a bit troubling for me, in terms of DJ gigs, so, hopefully, I will play more this year. Regardless, Mondays and Tuesdays are my new weekends and I feel no guilt for doing nothing these days.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Have clubs become more or less important to you over the years? Why?
𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙅𝙀𝙆𝙏 𝙂𝙀𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙉: Clubs were always important to me. It can be a place where you just go to let off some steam and dance your troubles away or to socialize with people, connect, get inspired or network. It also can be an act of resistance and endurance, specially in regards to queer and POC parties. That's why it is also so important to me to keep coming back to Ukraine and play at parties there. I always get inspired by the resilience of the Ukrainian underground dance community that keeps going even in such horrific times.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How do you approach your DJ sets? Do you play intuitively or according to a strict pattern?
𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙅𝙀𝙆𝙏 𝙂𝙀𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙉: I usually pick the first and last track I wanna play before I arrive at the party. However, I might change my mind at the very last minute depending on the vibe from the party and the atmosphere that the DJ before me is bringing. I also have some key tracks that I wanna play for sure at a specific event. I organize my folders by moods, so I have full control of the feelings I wanna convey. For me, DJing is about reading the crowd and it is an exchange of energy between the DJ and the audience. Sometimes, I don't connect with the crowd and that is also OK, but it will affect the overall mood of my set.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What can we expect from you in the near future?
𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙅𝙀𝙆𝙏 𝙂𝙀𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙉: I am working on new music that I am very excited about where I want to explore more of my Brazilian roots. I want to play more live gigs this year, so I am working on new setups and approaches to my live sets. I also want to collaborate with more artists from the queer scene this year so I am in conversation with a lot of talented people to make that happen.

Umwelt - Electro Golden Age - Archive Series

There’s beauty in chaos and method to madness, that much is true to the work of this faceless duo from Sweden. SHXCXCHCXSH’s strain of anarchic noise has sparked conversations and head-spinning records ever since the two producers first swapped notes in 2009. For about a decade, Hannes Stenström and Emmanuel Pascal Moreno stayed out of the public eye as a matter of principle, stripping music to its very base, without the weight of prejudice and social context holding it back: ’we prefer to listen to music in the dark, preferably without knowing who made it, when or how’. From the chaos and their loyalty to instinct came the need to find new structures, and so their faceless records united around a theme or musical element. It was a gamble, but their sledgehammer destruction of techno conventions gave some of the most intriguing sounds of the 2010s. Sampling everything from podcasts to YouTube to field recordings, they’re always on the hunt for ‘in-between’, ‘unintentional’ details, a way to composite the strangest and most innovative techno out there. Their staggering releases on Avian pioneered new sounds (and track names), and successfully manufactured the type of music you could hear both at home and in clubs; and 2024 saw them resurrect their Rösten imprint with the release of DO, an infernal four-tracker made for the dancefloor. Bassiani Podcast 257 explores that format further, bringing their stabbing and psychedelic havoc to a crowd facing setting. Immersive and heavy-duty, this one’s an hour-long clip of their snake-pit percussions, mind-bending techno from the enigmatic Norrköping duo.

Smoke Machine Podcast 085 Ancient Methods

We are delighted to celebrate our 5th anniversary with the German producer Ancient Methods (Persephonic Sirens / [aufnahme + wiedergabe].

Ancient Methods is the project of Michael Wollenhaupt.

Since its emergence the project the has been often labelled as „pitch black techno war funk“ (quoted after an early Boomkat review) and closely associated to what later on would be tagged as the „industrial techno“ - movement. 
This is possibly due to the radical machine aesthetics Ancient Methods has developed into an unmistakable trademark sound, since more than a decade. 
However the mechanical framework is - no more, no less - a physical ambassador for a deeper content, there is a profound human emotionality enclosed in the rhythmic shell.
The project is pictorially associated with „The Fall Of Jericho“-picture, that adorned the first releases of the eponymous „Ancient Methods“ label. 
The wall-breaking image is metaphorical not only for the sound of the project. 
Bringing formerly rather dissociated musical subcultures closer to each other has been an integral and fertile part of Michael Wollenhaupt’s work. 
The results are not only well documented by releases on labels like aufnahme + wiedergabe, HANDS and Hospital Productions. 

As a prolific remixer he worked among many others for the post-punkers of Soft Moon, synth-pop greats Wolfsheim, industrial-legends Bourbonese Qualk, synth-wave icon Beta Evers and beat-scientist Powell. 
The project has also been playing genre- crossing festivals like Maschinenfest, Wave-Positive Education - to name a few.
The genre-crossing qualities of the projects not only become obvious in his productions or during the live shows (the latter supported by Wahiba Khadri on drums and guitar) but also during Ancient Methods’ DJ-sets. 
Michael is dragging his obvious influences such as wave, EBM, industrial but also classical, liturgical, psychedelic and folk music into the techno frame to drop them on the dance floors and hereby delivering an intimate, rather introverted euphoria. 

Under the Room 506 moniker some of his DJ-edits (e.g. for Killian Camera or Deutsch Nepal received vinyl releases due to public demand).
Throughout the years Wollenhaupt has been collaborating with Regis to form Ugandan Methods, with Orphx as Eschaton, with Cindytalk as In The Mouth Of The Wolf, and Prurient taking the project to new levels.
The border crossing is furthermore elaborated with a monthly radio show on Berlin Community Radio and the launch of a new label from Ancient Methods, Persephonic Sirens, which aim is to support new and like-minded artists.
